  • These are the SNCO Barracks that we stayed at during our time up North for the lovely Division matches... I did this "tour" completely off the top of my head, hence why I cuss a lot.

LOL! Back in the early 80's we had open squad bays old steel boot camp style racks with no A/C in the building at all...

I see the use of the F-bomb in every other word has not changed from the 70's.

Wow! Incredibly nice living. I can't believe it. When I was at Schwab in 79' we had open squadbays with twin size racks and Green US blankets, and plain fartsacks and sheets which we surveyed every Thursday. and walllockers and a footlocker. I was a grunt and I never dreamed the Marine Corps would have this kind of billeting. Especially grunts.I guess times change

Wow, SNCO barracks in Oki sucks! I've been to the one in 29 Palms. That shit was 5 stars.

@Phantazmagoriia Totally agree friend. Oh and the snorkeling was awesome. You're likeme in that I also loved heading south on weekends. Henoko was just fun on weeknights. Weekends in Okinawa city and Naha were great. The people were a lot nicer than the japanes on the mainland. Was at Camp Fuji too.

You gotta' be fucking kidding me! That place looks like a hotel! What kind of Marine Corps do we have now? When I was at Schwab back in '82-'83 we had nothing more than old WW2 open squad bays with bunks and no AC!

Out-Freaking-Standing barracks and rooms these days. I'm still in the Marine Corps but last i was stationed on Schwabb in '96', we had 3 marines to a room, rooms were smaller, no idividual A/C controlled devices (we had to rely on the barracks A/C), beds were either bunkbeds or you take them apart and make them cramp up the room, the Heads were jacked up but you had to make the best of it, and HOLY COW that's a Big AZZ refrigerator, we 3 marines to a room for those small brown refrigerators..LOL

@Phantazmagoriia Oh man! When I was on light duty after breaking my leg at NTA I worked with S4 and was in the barracks right behind Headquarters and my window faced that Baseball dugout and field. I loved it. I'd walk right across the street to the theatre and Gee-Dunk and the E-Club in the parking lot. Sweet memories from 32 years ago and the greatest men I ever served with. It's all like a dream now. Yup,the window and a rented fan was my AC. Oki was the best place to be a Marine.

Poor Soul. I was at Kinser, at 3rd FSSG, and had it made being that close to the STAGE aka NAHA MUSIC CENTER. Every Marine knows that place, along with BC Street and Whisper Alley. Oh and that damn guy trying to sell you suits, right??? Schwartz, you were up so far North that I felt sorry for you guys. God Bless you brother and if you are EVER in Vegas, drinks are on me. Semper Fi, Captain T, U.S.M.C. PS: I was enlisted first. I spent in with a college education but to become an officer you had to sign for 6 years and to me, 4 years was long enough to decide. I was a Corporal before going to the DARK SIDE aka EASY SIDE. OCS was a joke compared to “THE” real Boot Camp we both endured. Again, I was lucky that I didn’t have field days or working parties because if you were in Intelligence, you REALLY had it made. Many blessings my friend, and may the good Lord keep you safe, happy, and HEALTHY!!!!

Fuckin' Schwab. I hated having to run rifle ranges up there when we couldn't use the one on Hansen. That thing was held together with tape and bailing wire.
Tell you what though, I'd still go back there in a heartbeat. Didn't know how much I loved that whole island until I was gone.

Well first off there are females on schwab, you got the ammo techs, second the thermostat in the room is nice and as for an ocean view on foster depending on what barracks you live in like 5696 you can see the ocean and the ferris wheel.

I was there in 93/94. 4th Marine regimental Tow’s. The barracks across from the base theater and E club. Think it was Bldg 3535 or 1616? I can’t remember, it was a drunken blur of crazy Hancho rides to gate 2 street, drunk snorkeling, softball and NTA. Had a lot of fun on Schwab. Heard a lot has changed? I heard some tours are dry due to alcohol related incidents. Bummer. Shit, we used to get all juiced up on Mojo and tear up the kadena airmen’s club every weekend!! Lol

Bad language, attitude and presentation. Don't you think you could have been more persuasive and convincing by speaking better about the lack of facilities etc??????? Or a well documented opinion to the Senators, Generals or whoever?!? This gives a bad improper presentation of American soldiers especially the USA citizens who are paying for this and representing us in different countries where USA bases are located.
