Why do humans appear as shadows in murder drones?

2 reasons
1: easier to animate
2: adds a sense of mystery

I assume it’s to not draw too much attention from the drones

The humans that have appeared so far as shadows were in a flashback from fragmented and/or damaged memories, so they may not completely recall the actual appearance of the people that were shown. This is somewhat proven by Tessa in the present not being shown as a shadow but as a person in a spacesuit.
