    Shesty’s problem with consistency most probably comes from his injury early in the season, and hopefully he can regain his rhythm. NYR defense was better when the team lacked stars (Shesterkin and Fox), which likely came from a psychological effect, so what they need now is to regain that grit and mentality.

  • @body_by_depuy
    @body_by_depuy 7 місяців тому +1

    Players are getting better and a lot of teams aren't focusing as much on their defense as they should be. The league wants more goals, that's why they shrunk all goalie equipment. Goals make highlight reels which are seen by non-hockey fans and get them interested in the game. Some of us love to watch a 1-0 or 2-1, 35+ shots a side goalie battle. A lot of newer hockey fans think it's boring. As goalies start to adapt and shut down shooters, the NHL will find another way to cut their legs out from under them. First was the Brodeur rule, then the gear shrinking; next they'll pull some shit like forcing the goalie to stay in the paint. The only thing people care about goalies for is to have someone to blame. Look at the Leafs. Their whole defense is dogshit, but they hang all of their losses on the goaltenders. Expecting your goaltender to make 5-6 "miracle" saves a game and then being pissed when he doesn't is utterly ridiculous.

  • @toddwilliams8128
    @toddwilliams8128 7 місяців тому +1

    Tristan Jarry makes the least sense of all. He has a 14-14 record, but leads the league with 6 shutouts (as of 02/07/24).

  • @BlueFlash25

    1. Game is constantly changing and elite players adapt to goalies as well, if you look up shooting patterns you will see big changes especialy compared to the last session
    2. some are good against these new strategies others, not so much and some can adapt quite quickly.

    • @GoalZoneCharlie
      @GoalZoneCharlie  8 місяців тому

      Where can I find those shooting pattern comps? Is there a big yearly chart/heat map somewhere? I'd love to see that - thanks for pointing it out!

    • @BlueFlash25
      @BlueFlash25 8 місяців тому

      @@GoalZoneCharlie those are advanced stats, usually paid service and they can tell you for example from where players scored goal and where they aimed their shots. In summary, Roy pioneered butterfly stance and Luongo set a new standard, simply, bigger goalies can block more shot, to counter that, league got faster and goalies could be caught out of position so they countered that by not going down to butterfly stance immediately, perfected by Vasilevsky, last session McDavid countered that by shooting low, 5h hole and place above pads and under glow, this session snipers like Matthews, Pasta and others copied that, goalies have to either wait to go low and risk missing the shot or they get out of position since they can’t keep up with speed. That is why I feel like its dominated by agile goalies that are good on the ground, big 180 compared to last few sessions and some are faster to adapt than the others

      @GoalZoneCharlie  8 місяців тому

    as i also was a golie then i was a teenager and early 20is. can say its super woodo. its super hard to have the "flow" every game, all season, and so much is how much brain power you put in to it. reading the game, and have quick reflexes. and feel that you can trust the defenders helping you and are placing them selfs there you want them. you are the 2nd capten kind of, its you and the two defenders. so if that dont work, you need to work hard. and doing it solo is almost impossible. the starts need to line up to have a good season.. imagen how good the goalie is then he can keep the starts lined up in the sky for years and years..
    i never played in any good division or something like that in Sweden, but still and that was 25 years ago stopped playing. time changes and so have hockey.

    The Rangers have also had some fantastic play by their backup Jonathan Quick while the Islanders' Varlamov was hurt and fired idiot coach Lambert put Sorokin in something like 13 straight games, including back to backs. It's no wonder his stats are suffering.

    How many times are you going to be surprised? You are analyzing random chaos and trying to find analytical patterns that are simply not there. The NHL has made rules that deliberately add random outcomes to keep the weaker teams in the game. That’s why goaltenders are good one day and suck the next. And they are only as good as their team D, the refs and pure luck let them be. It’s also why so many top teams go out in the first round of the playoffs and unlike every other pro sport, one of the top three teams don’t win the championship on a regular basis. Since the 08 rule changes the league is a statistical crapshoot. Last place to first place doesn’t require a 5 year rebuild anymore - like the Blues when they won the cup and the Oilers this year - you can go from last to first in 40 games. The integrity of the outcome was deliberately compromised to keep the losers happy and hopeful. It’s false parity.

    Goaltending is as good as the defensive structure in front of the goalie. Allowing offensive zone cross ice passing and other high chance opportunities will result in more goal going. Shots on goal is a stupid stat to refer to. It is the number of grade A opportunities given up that matter. Star players out side the crease struggle at times every year. this happens to goalies as well. Play better defensively as a team and goals against go down. Save percentage does not mean much if your team is not good and give up a lot of grade A chances.

    • @GoalZoneCharlie

      Always nuance and balance to this argument - which is actually part of why it's so polarizing. So many variables to look at (like the ones you mentioned) could make almost every argument could go either way. "How much is it the goalie vs. how much is it x, y, or z?" I think that's why general managers mess up goalie contracts so often, especially as scoring goes up.
