Simeon (perhaps the Tsadik Shimon ben Hillel) and Anna meet the baby Jesus at his Presentation in the temple in Jerusalem, as told in Luke 2:22-40. Simeon recognizes the baby boy as the long-awaited Messiah and sings this song of praise.
