Great video once again. I can't stress enough how good having a wildlife pond is, not just for the wildlife it attracts, but also for our own enjoyment and mindfulness. Really grateful for these inspirational videos which spurred me on to actually creating a pond rather than daydreaming about one.
Our pond is only 2-3 months old now, but delighted that the dragon fly perch has been used by blue tailed damselflies and now a common darter dragonfly. Common blue damselflies have also visited and female emperor and broad bodied chasers have laid eggs. Add in the various pond skaters, diving beetles, water snails and the pond plants establishing themselves and something new seems to be happening every day. Brilliant stuff.

Thank you Joel. That's so encouraging to hear. I have a small garden not much space but I do have a small pond. Lots of biodiversity and pollinating plants.

Aaargh - THAT explains it! Several comments have appeared on the channel and I've been alerted to them and was convinced I'd responded already but it seems a lot have disappeared, so not only am I playing catch up during a quick lunch break, I am no doubt repeating myself! ;) What's the betting all the previous comments appear and people suspect I am losing my mind! ;) Hope you are doing fine - I'm off to Scotland again on Friday and really hoping to get some good video of the amazing flora and fauna there - oh and hoping for good weather of course! @@WildYourGardenWithJoelAshton hi Joel that's the wonders of modern technology, always prone to fail 😄.
Good luck up in Scotland, hope you get to travel around a bit whilst up there. Its been several years since I visited the Highlands and look forward to getting back up there one day.
My son spent time up there doing the East Highland Way hike and wild camping just a few months ago.

That's great to hear Mark, I expect you are seeing many rewards already but the dragonflies will find you and may have already visited and laid eggs that you just aren't aware of yet - keep your eye out - not sure if you saw the video on the channel "what animals live in your pond?" but it shows them in their nymph stage, so you know what to look out for. Do put a perch in though, they can't resist having maximum impact on other flying insects! ;) Best wishes, and I'll be sure to film that 100th pond - thanks for all your support too, it's appreciated - Joel

Yes these perches are essential for Dragonfly look outs, and because they are constantly hunting it keeps down midges that would otherwise cause problems when sitting out for your sundowner!, Take care, and try not to work for too long at a time, a short break is all you need to charge the batteries for another big push, at 35 degs here you need to keep topping up on liquids to avoid chronic cramp! broad bodied chaser nymphs love shallow water in full sun. i built a pond in the 80s and it had a large area just a few inches deep and a muddy bottom, and in was full of them. literally hundreds. it was amazing watching them emerge and fly off. sadly my parents sold the garden off to david wilson homes and my wildlife garden was totally destroyed
