That thing is beautiful. I've got the exact same bike with 16,000 miles.. I love the spectre look, and I love what you did with yours! This just might be inspiration for me to start a similar project on mine in the future!
Dude, your bikes mint! I'm picking up a kz550C tomorrow, hasn't been running in years. I'm very mush on the fence of making another cafe racer like I did with my 74 kawasaki s1 or a bobber. such hard decisions
Same here , I just started another project 1990 kz1000 police and I am debating between cafe racer and something like old school street fighter/ naked. Maybe i am getting old but a 100 miles on cafe racer feels like 500 :-) by the end of the day.
Why didn't you let us hear the motor when you fired it up cold? 😭 All that work and I can't even really hear what's going on just trippy repetitive acid music
beautiful work, very clean. can u tell me how u made air pods work, did u rejet the carbs ? and if yes - any recommendations ? I'm about to start a similar project myself. any info is much appreciated
Hey man, is there anyway you could help me find out how to get a new throttle cable for my 84' kz550? Do they sell them in motorcycle shops or is there a special shop online that would have the perfect length one? I ordered one off eBay but it is like 1inch too short. Anything helps thank you.
Beautiful bike! I have a1983 Kz 750 spectre those frames are so hard to deal with when it comes to putting on custom seats. Would you be willing to make me one exactly like the one you made for your 550? Name your price!
really nice bike..!!! but if you let me..... I dont like the details in gold! gas tanq painting its great work!, but shock absorbers and rear breaks gold?.... just my opinion....
hi. it was probably most time consuming part of the project. there was not to much correct information online. you have to start with determining what carbs you have. if mechanical slides then is no problem because those are much simpler to rejet and different size of jets kits are available , but if you have CV TK 26 carbs like in my case there are pain in the ass to rejet. If you don't know much about bikes, pod filters w CV carbs can be a pain - a bike may run great at certain rpms, but not so good at others. worst part - high jets for my bike are available from kawasaki and also from keihin or ebc, but idle jets are no longer available and even k&l rebuild kits or dynojet dont specify sizes and cost around 30-40 $ per set for one carb and you need 4 . my stock high jets were 120 size so i bought 4 or five different sets ( bigger ) jets from ebc ( very cheap, couple bucks per set of four ) . idle was very lean in my case ( it took forever to catch the temp when cold started ) so i bought a cheap set of micro drills from ebay and drill the jets . i drilled the jets put the carbs together check the mixture and repeat the process till i was satisfy with the result ( kind of because it is a little bit rich wright know ). then you have to deal with the slides. i did some research and found info ( manual ) from dynojet kits for similar carbs about enlarging the hole in slides for quicker response( i believe in my case it was 5/32 drill ). things to remember : - it will never be perfect :-) - jets from different manufacturers are different sizes even with the same numbers on them ( for example 132 from dynojet not be same size like 132 from ebc) stick with one manufacturer for easy reference. - a lot of info online but also a lot misinformation - what i do is check for that particular part on ebay before modifying something ( if you mess up you can just buy another one ) for this bike you can find used carbs for 60 - 80 $ - if you deciding to own a 30 years old bike don't be afraid to play with it . it will pay in the future when you will have to repair something ( and trust me you will ) as soon as i rejet the carbs bike most likely pick up couple ponies and clutch start slipping. - it will be never ending story so love it or sell it :-)
That's some golden information !! Thank you so much ! I figured I can always go back to the air box worse case scenario.. (but I hate that ugly bulky thing on the bike) Anyway; the paint part I am familiar with already, recently restored 93 Bandit 400 that was sitting for 5+ years . Between leaking petcock and rust in the tank I went into the carbs like ten times before it's starting to act ok. .. But this project is a a CB750 1980 (I'm hoping this one is gonna be easier maybe) ..and air pods is something I haven't done before so once again thank you!
Nice bike but they only made Spectres in 750 and 1100. They were made for two years, the maroon and black were the first ones in 1982 and the gold and black were the 83s. I really miss my 82' and wish I'd never sold it. Quiet as a sewing machine at idle and screamed like a Banshee when you got in the throttle.
Awesome build. I've got an 84 F2 LTD and someday hope to have a similar setup

- it will never be perfect :-)
- jets from different manufacturers are different sizes even with the same numbers on them ( for example 132 from dynojet not be same size like 132 from ebc) stick with one manufacturer for easy reference.
- a lot of info online but also a lot misinformation
- what i do is check for that particular part on ebay before modifying something ( if you mess up you can just buy another one ) for this bike you can find used carbs for 60 - 80 $
- if you deciding to own a 30 years old bike don't be afraid to play with it . it will pay in the future when you will have to repair something ( and trust me you will ) as soon as i rejet the carbs bike most likely pick up couple ponies and clutch start slipping.
