I'm signed up for the workshop with Alex at Gods Pocket next fall. It's always been a bucket list item for me since reading an article in a dive magazine about the resort many years ago.

Looking forward to seeing you up there! Its chilly in the water, but as you can see in the photos - it can be shorts and T-shirt weather between the dives.

Check out Campbell River diving on your trip up Vancouver Island. We have more extreme currents and life to go along with it. We call Browning Wall as the number site in BC but Campbell River is a close second

Are there any differences between seasons in terms of the subjects? Matthew, I couldn't find the trip on your web page. Alex, yours are already full. :D

What is an ideal length of time to stay there, is one week is good? Is two weeks too long or ideal?

Vancouver Island has some incredible diving from Nanaimo up to Port Hardy. I live in Cozumel and people ask me all the time what my favorite diving is.... I say Gods Pocket makes Cozumel look like a garbage dump. Amazing stuff both underwater and above, Ive seen humpback whales, orcas, lots of porpoises, wall to wall of life. Lots of nudibranchs, strawberry anenomes, giant plumose anenomes, big ling cod, warbonnets, irish lords......Make sure you are comfortable diving in cold water with drysuit training to enjoy this type of diving. You could get away with a thick wetsuit if you really wanted to.

is there dry suits for renting? i've never dive in a dry suit. can you get certified there? im from miami so i dont think u can get certified here?

You can rent a drysuit on Vancouver Island, but not up at God's Pocket. However, being a remote, cold water location they ask people to build up their drysuit experience before coming up. The springs in Northern Florida are used for drysuit training, so you can build your skills. Just remember it is colder up in Canada - so you need to add some extra layers under the drysuit compared with Canada.

Ya know for a Brit to talk about Vancouver Island being cold is kind of rich. I would also argue that the water is not different than the Channel. current temperature in London is 38 F and current temp here on Van Island is 46F

Port Hardy has a weather system of its own! That said, our Scottish diving often has colder temps than Browning Pass, but many UK divers only dive on the south coast of England in summer, where it is actually a lot warmer. So for that reason a lot of UK (and Californian) need reminding that just because they always dive in a drysuit they may not be prepared for the temps, long dives and multiple dives per day.
