Bentley Smith no, i trade my 99 golf sr piece of junk with a 1.9 tdi Passat(3bg)... 1.6 sr akl is the worst engine that exist, you keep throwing money on a engina that are built differently than the original 1.6... SR cars have differenT air intake system, and that manes it even worse to repair becouse you really can’t fix it. It had a problem with the rpm going up and down, and i tried everything to fix it, and threw alot of money on it till i found out that it can’t be fixed. Piece of junk engine, that’s why i wanted to switch to 1.8, but not now. I am too happy about passat 1.9 tdi 2005.
@@niko5646 lol 1.6 sr (8v) is one of the best engines made for MK4 all other petrol engine 1.4/1.6 16v are problem engines yes. rpm going up and down means cleaning of the throttle body or complete replacement if cleaning did not helped! thats all!
Neo AHAHAHAHAHA trust me, that rpm doesn’t do shit when you clean it or change the throttle body or sensors (i have tried). It’s a whole different air system with that piece of junk engine. Don’t go for 1.6 or an engine under. They waste more fuel than a 1.8t or 2.0 engines. Shitty low horsepower on a 1.6 and it waste more than a engine bigger than itself
I had the same problem, cleaned throttle body, added fuel additive, changed sparkplugs and sparkplug wires and haven't had a problem since. I've seen more than one 1.6SR go over 500K KM (300K + miles) without major problems
