Fred, please I have a big Problem with the watermelon I planted in cement bags which I copied from far east videos. When they start flowering and fruiting they start to wilt despite that I water them morning and night. I also put adequate chicken manure. I'm not happy at at all. What do I do please?

I grow using organic methods here in New Zealand. We dont get long or hot summer so we have to stat the seedlings indoors for about 5 weeks. In our market the market isnt as picky or fussy about variety though watermelons are so expensive here like growing gold you can make such good money. The market requires seeded watermelons and seedless watermelons they like small size from around 2kg up to 10kg the big ones at 10kg are sold as cut watermelon as half or quarters in grocery stores some speciality markets now like the yellow flesh watermelons so when you cut open you get a yellow watermelon. We grow many hybrid varieties from Syngenta and various other seed companies. We grow red and yellow seedless type and the seeded types a 3 to 5 kg 5 to 7kg and a 7 to 10kg varieties most are red inside and we have 1 yellow type so there is something for everybody depending what they like.

Can i plant and apply fertilizer after 2wks of germination
2nd week after germination is the best time. Apply phosphorus fertilizer and phosphorus foliar should follow.

I apply 3 to 4 times.. Planting. 1st top dress (vegetative) 2nd top dress (flowering) 3nd top dress (Fruit enlargement and ripening)
