Hot take, the Longines Conquest is a much more versatile watch compared to the big crown pointer date. Not sure how this scored first, unless you already have a decent sized collection where you're willing to spend $2K on a more avant-garde watch. Out of all the watches from the competition, the Longines Conquest would be by far my winner for an everyday watch/one watch collection.
Sooo true Longines is King I put the Longines conquest on my comment just now about the best watches $2,000 and under I'd say it's better than the aquis movement wise but of course their fanboys are going to be on my ass if they see this comment lol
This is a cool series Teddy. You should do an annual version. I thought the new Conquest was going to take this one, but that Oris Big Crown Pointer Date is really a heck of a watch... well deserved win!
Love this series! Please keeep it going. Would love to see a 6-12K match up. Rolex, omega, GO, Zenith, JLC, IWC, etc. Some serious competition and would love to see how it shakes out.
In case you didn't notice, he is only doing this with watch he is selling. So there wont be rolex, omega, JLC... Sad that he is a bit too much focus on his business, but you got to do what you got to do :)
Honestly, you're gonna have a lot of bias votes once you get there. Atleast with the more affordable half of the watch world - people might have actually handled, worn and owned those watches. Whereas the tier you mention is largely aspirational, and will be clouded.
I have the 80th Anniversary Edition of the Oris with the bronze case and green dial and it's one of my top 2 watches. My favorite also happens to be an Oris. I also have the Glow. I have Longines, Tag, Oris, Hamilton (and a slew of Chinese watches) and Oris has quickly become my favorite watch maker.
I've got the same watch. Really looks class on the deer hide strap. It's the only watch I've ever gotten comments on in public, besides by PRX. My submariner, breitling aerospace, tag Carrera, Wenger, Luminox, orient, maratac, and zeppelin have never started a conversation.
I just received the same 2023 Longines 2023 in Green as pictured and it is gorgeous - punching well above is price weight and as so comments have said is far more versatile than the Oris. That follows my mantra that "its better to be overdressed than to be underdessed". I mean, come on, just look at how Teddy carries it😊
Totally agree. Difficult to choose in terms of design when the watches are so different to each other and it's all subjective (I wouldn't have voted for the Oris for example as I prefer indices to digits), but when you look at the CW C63 Sealander it's VERY similar to the Longines Conquest, £200 cheaper than the Twelve and over £1000 cheaper than the Longines. A no-brainer in my opinion.
❤ I agree with the Oris BCPD coming in at the top spot, it is such a great looking watch and nothing looks like it, my second choice would have went to NOMOS Club Campus ❤ Enjoyed this episode, thanks Teddy Bee 😊
I've got a BB41 Heritage silver dial (the fixed/plain bezel design). I really want to like the 1926, but it wears huge, that tiny date window is jarring, and it's has odd styling cues. If one came up used cheap enough I probably would get one just to see how what its like long term away from the shiny store lights... but there's almost none on secondary market. Tudor must be selling them to someone, somewhere.. Mind you, when you put a 1926 next to the dogs dinner that is the Royal, it suddenly looks a lot better, Edit - just noticed it's available in 39mm... thought it was 36 and 41 only??
My top 3 1. Longines Conquest 2a. Tudor 1926 2b. Sinn 556 3. Any of the Seikos Even though I love the Oris dive watches I would've never thought the big pointer would win out in a competition like this.
Huh, genuinely surprised at the popularity of super minimalist, subdued watches and the complete absence of Hamilton in their own wheelhouse. I love this series, keep it going!
Out of all the watches I've ever worn, the only one to consistently get complements from non-watch people was the Junghans Max Bill (38 automatic acrylic crystal). I ended up selling it though because i don't wear watches for others and it didn't fit with my collection.
I think Hamilton would probably perform strongly in the sub $1,000 dollar category... The Khaki Field Mechanical is an icon and the Murph 38mm is a modern classic.
Longines is my long time favorite brand and I have several in my collection. Oris is a brand I knew of but never considered. Just last month my wife and were perusing watches in a shop. Naturally the Longines were hogging our attention. But then we passed by a display featuring Oris watches...including a blue Big Crown. As we were admiring the watch, my wife was so enthralled she told me to get it for myself. So we both enthusiastically agree with the outcome of your contest.
nomos taking 3 spots in top ten is very surprising to me. their watches are very good looking and of good quality. but most of their watches are way too dressy. last time i checked, people buying watches under not only $2k but under $5k are mostly looking for sports/casual pieces. idk if people have changed their taste en masse or maybe they haven't had a chance to get a nomos on their wrist to have a look yet. or, maybe people still consider watches with so many polished surfaces "casual" while i consider that dressy. all in all, happy to see german watches gaining momentum in this hobby. in my opinion at least, brands like muhle glashutte, hanhart, sinn/damasko and nomos (maybe also stowa) offer much more interesting watches than most swiss brands (swatch subbrands in particular) do in the same price range. i've parted with my sinn 556 2 years ago and i'm starting to get a tiny bit remorseful of that decision.
I couldn't agree with the result here more! This Oris Big Crown Pointer Date, same dial, different strap is my co-daily watch along with a 38mm Hamilton Murph. Gets the job done, looks great in suits and jeans. Amazing content, keep up the great work!
Well done. That is a good sweet 16. I love this format. Maybe go into these watches a bit more for each one. I dont mind a 30m video. 😅 Glad to see Nomos representing. Surprised by number of Nomos, but not surprised they got cut early. More polarizing designs. Club making it further makes sense, it's the most "normal" in their lineup.
Scrolled for a comment on Nomos. I just don't see why people like them so much and they're featured so often. In my opinion, they're basic, boring and look cheap. The club is OK, but nothing to write home about. Idk, just not my style I guess.
Such an informative video, Teddy. Love the series...should definitely continue along the lines of $2k-3k, 3-4k, etc. Not everyone can, nor wants, to make the jump from 2-5k, or 5-10k, which is typically found in reviews.
Oris bested Longines on a more iconic design. But man. The Longines is way ahead on the finishing : that movement is a grade above and thoses applied markers : so nice. To me this + the more known and prestigious brand make it the best proposition.
@@tongotongo3143incorrect. Longines has infinitely more historical importance and creates an overall better product. Oris is over priced in my opinion, but they do make some nice looking watches
I really like the longines for an every day watch but the Oris is definitely one of my favorites. Just not something for me personally but I would love to have it.
the oris big crown pointer date was my first mechanical watch, it's such a classy choice. I now have fancier stuff but I still enjoy wearing it, the coin edge is very unique.
Loving the series Teddy, really like the audience engagement and finding it fascinating to see where these models stack up with the community. Looking forward to the next price point 👌
I couldn't agree more about ORIS winning !!! We are talking about a unique complication that has been around for many decades and ages like a fine wine. And the Longines Conquest ... this new design is clearly a true masterpiece from a design point of view. But only released less than a year ago ... let's see how it evolves over time !! Great idea to involve the public. Maybe seeing the best watches by category (dress, everyday, sport) would also be interesting to see .. Always a pleasure to watch your content, thank you for this !!!
These tournaments are so great for someone perhaps newer to watches and feeling overwhelmed by choice. Filtering down to just 16 options is more than enough for someone to find something that speaks to them while still being assured they’re receiving top quality for $. This is a brilliant concept :)
You should see these watches yourself. Nomos and Tuder quality and finish finish is a class higher than the rest. Oris steps up the game if you move up to Aquis and higher.
I guess I'm confused why the Club and Club Campus were both allowed in as they're the same watch. That spot could have been used on a unique watch, like the Formex Essence.
Fascinting result. I didn't vote in this tournament but I do have three watches from this round of 16: Junghans Max Bill (38mm auto PVD black and 34mm manual baby blue dial), Nomos Club Campus (orange dial) and, of course, an Oris Big Crown Pointer Date (in steel with the off-white pattern dial). All great watches and Longines are certainly on my radar as well as Christopher Ward's C7 Rapide line. This price point if full of extaordinary watches with highly reliable and affordable ETA- and Sellita-based movements (or derivates inspired from, there of). A aplaude the good judgement of those who voted, I find little to dispute in any of the choices come to.
I'm about to try and pick up a 574 7400B, an earlier post-quartz crisis Big Crown POinter Date from the 80s/90s - such a great, timeless design and a cool complication
The Oris big crown pointer date in full bronze (bronze bracelet included) is my favorite watch so far i have the blue dial version. It's the best watch and earned the W.
In my opinion the Tudor is the most striking. Waffle dial, beautiful contrasting blue hands, minimal script, beautiful bracelet. And it first my scrawny wrist!
LOVE this series. Would love to see more of these bracket-type videos. We get small history snippets for each watch, the community is involved, and it's cool to see how all of our votes are similar/differ.
Loved the Tournament. I'm in the market for a few watches so this will help. I chose the Longine Green Dial from the start. But I also like the Oris because of the strap. 😉
Would be a hard contest between the cw twelve, oris bc pointer date, and the seiko spb143. But those are definitely the ones that stand out from the rest here.
If King Seiko, as is common with many Japanese products, didn't underpromise/overdeliver on their accuracy rating (-15 to +20 promised) when in practice they're always accurate within or very close to COSC (-4 to +6 delivered) standards, it would blow all these other pieces out of the water. Easily the best finished case, dial and bracelet of the bunch. With that said I do want King Seiko to give consumers a bigger incentive to buy KS rather than just high-end Seiko (as they're positioning just below Grand Seiko). Maybe this would mean using older GS movements in new KS models, or just fine tuning their existing high-end Seiko movements to chronometer standards.
That Oris Big crown is a work of art especially that cathedral stile hand that screams traditional classic watchmaking from the 1st half of the 20th century, now I wonder: Was the Rado Captain Cook within those initial 40 selected?
would love to see more of these!!! plus I think it would be interesting to see an "all-star" tournament where you put the winners from each proce range against each other in a bracket.
Before I even viewed this , and of the watches on my wish list 3 of them were in the entries. Those being the ORIS Big Crown Crimson, The Tudor 1926 and the CW Twelve (I like the purple dial). It doesn't surprise me that the ORIS won. I don't favour the Longines at all myself but that's only my opinion.
Traska Venturer GMT would have been on this list if there was any justice (but perhaps, thankfully it's not because we don't want too long a wait for one...) 38mm, it's the perfect size, it's thinner and better proportioned than an Aqua Terra (11mm and that's with boxed sapphire crystal), it's got the readability and classic lines of an Oyster Perpetual, it's a GMT, and a 24hr rotating bezel ring.. hardened steel case, drilled lugs... for a lot of people it's the perfect one-and-done everyday watch.
All of these watches are so solid, it's cool to see them go head to head like this. If I was going to buy any of them, I'd probably get a nomos, It's a brand that I've been meaning to get into. Probably the biggest thing against nomos for me is the lack of bracelets.
Very Cool Series. Please keep going first for 2-3k and then move on to I think about 6k there are so many options to choose from. Or even at higher prices like 12k and so on. Great video by the way, I expected the Sinn or the Tudor to win. The are my favourite.
What could possibly make one watch better than another other than being scratchproof? I'm pretty sure they are all capable of keeping the time very well
Please keep this comp going its a great way to see what kind of watch u can buy for this money and also somewhat educational for us meagre watch enthusiasts. ⌚

The Longines Conquest should’ve won. But I’m not mad at this. You should DEFINITELY keep this going at a higher price range 🍻 I love it.
I am mad that the Oris is even that high up😂😂😂😂
Agreed. The Conquest seems to offer greater versatility. I’d take a Tissot Gentleman over the Oris,

That #1 Oris is delectable. Nice, Teddy, keep up the good work. Thanks!
Conquest looks great and got my vote, I love that vintage green dial with the smooth bezel.
King Seiko as a close second.
I own the Willard and the Pointer Date. I’d say the Tangente is the best one here.
Teddy, what brand are your glasses? They look great.
Good comparison and excellent details, thanks Teddy. Appreciate your work as always!
8:15 I am aggressive now. Could you please check if too much Oris lovers voted
Yes please Teddy, I love to watch these videos! They are great! Can't wait to see another one for $3000.
Very Cool Series. Please keep going first for 2-3k and then move on to I think about 6k there are so many options to choose from. Or even at higher prices like 12k and so on. Great video by the way, I expected the Sinn or the Tudor to win. The are my favourite.
Huge fan of this tournament series! Please continue!
the new conquest is damn pretty tho, almost better looking than datejust, wish it was 39mm
What an amazing outcome for a beautiful watch. Always a pleasure to see mamacoo work your magic. Thanks for sharing this transformation with us!
Hell yeah, I have one and only one watch, and it’s the burgundy pointer date. It’s beautiful, I love it
Love this and would like to see more. Maybe regions like march madness set up by complication.
Unfortunately, the BCPD is not under $2k retail any more, but I'm glad it won out as I've had my eye on it and it really stands on its own
Enjoy this, gives exposure to some watches haven't seen
What could possibly make one watch better than another other than being scratchproof? I'm pretty sure they are all capable of keeping the time very well
The oris pointer dates are sharp. The bezel also makes it unique.
Please keep this comp going its a great way to see what kind of watch u can buy for this money and also somewhat educational for us meagre watch enthusiasts. ⌚
The Tudor should've won against the Conquest and be in the final.
The Longines Conquest is pretty much a sub $2k Omega Aqua Terra
I can’t contest the Oris win too much, but I would have ranked the Junghans Max Bill (especially the anthracite dial) much higher.
do it! oris big crown pointer date is a great watch...
Love to see a category tournament. Divers, drivers, field, dress, aviator and everyday dress. Maybe even a beater category.
