How do you recommend learning a song like this with so many licks to memorize. Is it better to just learn a few and improvise the rest? I imagine it would be difficult to memorize every lick and have to recall which lick to play during the song
Yeas it's a difficult job! I transcribe every single note by ear from the original song, trying to create a real copy of the original song and give everyone the opportunity to To be able to play with a serious reference point
Break up the piece into phrases in a way that makes sense to your ear. Then practice one phrase at a time, very slowly, till done. In the process you’ll have memorized the whole piece.

You just have to listen to the song hundreds of times to memorize every detail
