Jim Olson, I am Jon Olsen owner of Ye Old Sawmill and woodshop, also in Minnesota. I myself have built Guitars and even own top Craftsman award at the Minnesota State fair, love how you started out almost 100% different than myself, I am very lucky that I get to hand select the lumber that I would use on building a guitar It takes a long time to do what you have mastered I have only built about 13 Guitars all looking like Gibson Les Paul, and Fender Strat. To get my tops look like Gibson I use what is called Kert star wood carver it's the North star model, I used 3 types of belt sanders Northfield, Oliver, Timesaver, It takes a lot of tools and equipment to do a fine job . You are a Craftsman at a very high level.
I really like your guitar building philosophy! It's not magic, just skill, precision, and experimentation. Pretty cool. It takes the mysticism out of the whole thing.
truly a master craftsman with an awesome talent , one who through patient practice has given us rare beauty in the quality of His artistry. James Taylor and Phil Keggy play nothing less than the absolute best there is from this man's hands . this is functional beauty ! !
When you're talking about Jim Olson's guitars (very well made) you also have to factor in his price. His guitars are WAY overpriced .... I own a Blueridge BR-183 (2004 - $2200) with tons of real abalone inlays, rosewood back and sides, Adirondack spruce top, superior bracing and tone that will make you weep. I inquired about a custom guitar he had made for Paul Stanley of Kiss fame. The guitar was named the Rose and it was easily one of the most beautiful guitars I have ever seen ...but NOT $75,000 worth. That's just plain ridiculous. Now I doubt Paul really paid that amount and I'm guessing the email I got from Jim's company was a "Screw you" price. That's my experience with Jim Olson ...Taylor, Epiphone, Blueridge all make great sounding and player accessible instruments. Jim Olson's story when I watched the history of how he worked for his Church to be able to afford to make guitars is ruined by his obvious GREED.
This guy is very humble & just a straight to the facts type guy …

Nice to see one who never gave up...

Greatest guitars built with passion
Necessity is Parent of Invention 🙏🏽💥🙏🏽
Is it all begins with becoming driving by a vision & need
I like Jonatha's 2 Olson guitars !! Built on the night of a full moon , with a boiling pot of spaghetti on the side . LOL
Phil Keaggy said something like, in his estimation, Olsen is the finest acoustic guitar he has come across.
I wonder if Jim makes a nylon string &/or classical ? 🙏🏽
