As a complete amateur, I've been getting pretty frustrated in trying to make Autostakkert and other Windows-based tools work on Mac for astrophotography via Crossover, so this was EXTREMELY helpful. The scenario you spent some time working on (not having flats, darks, or bias frames) also happened to be my exact predicament. I'll do these going forward, but wanted to give Siril as a go without them as a sort of proof of concept before investing much more time. Thank you, Kamil. I'll be checking out your other videos.

this.is.brilliant. to the point, quick, and no bs background music (i'm a musician). one note: it wouldn't apply the North American nebula adjustment because you took the defaults on the optical train instead of entering your actual values, so it couldn't plate solve. and maybe stick the scripting on the end instead of the intro. other than that, this shows me Exactly what i need to know to get started in Siril -- thank you!

I am brand new to this stuff and only have "lights" photos. I have no way of creating the steps so I don't have to produce the other "biases", "darks", and "flats" folders. Is there an easy step by step way where I can run the stacking only using my "lights" photos? The explanation in the video was over my head.

Consider that in a previous SiriL release (0.9.12-1) there were already scripts to process lights without some of the other calibration files (DSLR_Preprocessing_NoDark.ssf, DSLR_Preprocessing_NoFlat_NoDark_NoBias.ssf, DSLR_Preprocessing_NoFlat_NoDark.ssf, DSLR_Preprocessing_NoFlat.ssf)

Excellent. The script tutorial was very helpful.
To resolve the issue with photometric calibration, adjust the focal distance and pixel size either typing them in manually or using "get metadata from image" found just below those boxes. This has worked for me every time so far going through over 100 different DSOs.

    Again a great video, Kamil!
I was looking into Siril a few weeks ago, and was just overwhelmed by the options it had, not realizing the scripting possibility. So, gonna give it a second try.
What I would be interested in: any ideas about how to stack data from multiple nights? Did not search for it yet on the internet, but maybe you've already tried it?

Have you been able to write any scripts? Siril says that users can put scrips in their forum but so far no one has yet.
I do mainly post processing in this software. I tried for three months to figure out how to stack mono data and came up with nothing.

Awesome tutorial! Some of your suggestions will help me with my effort to get comfortable with Siril. I was wondering if ever you get the time to take a look at Gimp, and maybe put a similar tutorial together on that program, I just don't like the idea of having to pay for photo shop when Gimp is free, and does a lot of what Photoshop can do. Thanks again for another great video.

I was beyond frustrated with the extremely windows based world of A.P. As a mac user with a new A.P. rig that only spits out .fit files... I was about to sell it and run back to visual only ! You have given me light (pun intended ) at the end of this very dark tunnel. Thank you x10000000 for introducing me to Siril. Quick question. If all my files are in .fit do I need to do anything different or just do the file loading as you did here and let the program figure it out ?

I'm a little late in making a comment here. However, how hard would it be for SIRIL to have included more scripts that would accommodate beginners? This simple scripts addition would have been very helpful. I'm at the point where I'm only capturing lights and darks. (c8, f6.3, asi533, AVX mount)

@@kamilkp Thank you so much Kamil for attempting to do this…
The script is the built in one that was included in Siril that does the extraction of the Ha and Oiii channels. The requirement for this script is Bias, Flats, Darks and of course Lights be in separate subdirectories of the Siril Working directory….However, it would be so good to have an alternate version of this script that would allow one to choose which calibration frames to use or a script that would allow the use of only Darks as a calibration requirement.

Siril has to be (and I am a software engineer) the most convoluted and badly designed application I have encountered in the last couple of years. All I want to do is stack some images and there is no obvious and clear way of doing so in fact its GUI is so confusing and chaotic that I have almost given up with it. I have had to drag my images into the app because for some reason they forgot to add the ability to search USB / SD cards ?!? And even then there was no clear way to start stacking. While the alternatives are pay for software at this point I think they are worth it, no one wants to write scripts thats why we have an app with a GUI..... Whoever came up with this software is completely clueless.
