Best amp Sims on the market. I bought the Lion (there's a wait for it currently in America) and plan on buying their Woodrow amp pedal in the near future. I keep hoping UA will put out LB preset in the app. Lincoln did one for the Dream or the Ruby (I can’t remember which off the top of my head), just that it seemed funny to me since he’s such a Marshall guy.

    Nothing compares to a real tube amp. Period.

    • @markjohnstonofficial
      @markjohnstonofficial  4 місяці тому

      I agree that little can compare to a truly great tube amp but there are plenty of tube amps that are *just fine* and plenty of tube amps that are good but without a good sounding room to track them in with the right mics you're never going to get a great recorded sound. Digital modeling has pushed the line between analog and digital to a razors edge but the reality is that a great tube amp in a room where you can turn it up and the right mics / pres to get it into your mix is out of reach of a lot of people and stuff like this is REALLY important for musicians in those situations to get their music recorded.

    The lack of midi implementation makes this full line of pedals much less versatile than they could be. It crushes the idea of having a board full of these devices.

    • @dylanwashburn7867
      @dylanwashburn7867 11 місяців тому +3

      I would agree, I think they subbed out MIDI control for the App/Phone functionality, but for anyone like you or me that is already familiar and committed to a MIDI setup these new UAFX Amp/IR pedals are pretty limited, even compared to things like the Iridium or ACS1. I think these UA pedals sound better than those two options, but the lack of MIDI is really frustrasting for anyone who wants to seemlessly change tones in a band/live context.
      Seems like this series of pedals is aimed more for Studio guys, which is fine, I just wish MIDI was an option for extra presets if nothing else.

    Just a newbie’s question:
    For a demonstration you are recording out of the Lion in Stereo, right? I mean, you have an stereo track armed in your DAW? And that’s it, no panning I guess.
    Or are you recording the stereo signal out from the pedal into a mono track and then copying and pasting g it in another track panning hard left/right?

    There are clever - how they entered the nerdy and sometimes nitpicky and snobbish guitar market with partially old code in shiny new metal boxes...admirable marketing. I´ve been using their plugins forever, but I´m not shure how these expensive pedals hold their value when the next "gamechanging" product comes around the corner. Not to speak of the to-be-expected MKII versions of their pedal series ("now with midi and headphone out").
    So, because I´m not rich, I stay away from UAs rabbithole, but I have to admit from listening to all the gearfluencers : they sound good.

    In all the UAD amp pedals, there is this certain sound, that sounds like when there is a bad contact in the cable, some kind of sizzle, some kind of static sound that is very unpleasant, as if you'd overdrive an AD-converter or something like that. I hate it in the Dream, I hate it in the Ruby and I hate it here. I wonder which defect amps UAD is modeling. They need new cables or something. Horrible.

      I think what you’re referring to is some artifacts in their cabinets. I know in the Ox there is control for speaker breakup and it seems that some people dig it, some hate it, others don’t really notice. I mostly fall into the latter; I’ll intentionally dial it out 9/10 times in my Ox but don’t really hear it unless it’s egregious.
      But it is a consequence of them refusing to engage with IR’s

    I agree with u 100% on keeping the same cab on the Dream. The EV is the only one i like on that pedal. The Ruby i own, but i dont connect with it like i do with the Dream. Definitely want to try the Woodrow and now the Lion. Great demo man. U made it sound phenomenal like usual

    Sounds great. But you have to try the Friedman IR-X. That is mind blowing

      💯 true I own one and it’s what this pedal is trying to be.. don’t get me wrong this sounds great and Ido love UAD pedals but pair the Friedman IRX with the OX stomp. It’s a wrap.

    I currently have the Ruby & Dream mounted under my pedalboard because they are so set & forget for me and I treat them like I would amps.
    I’ve been dreaming for a Marshall UA pedal since the other ones were first announced. Super pumped for this, but now I’ll need to decide which one I want to pair with it, the Ruby or the Dream. 🤔

      Dude I would actually love to see how you mounted those pedals under your board, I contemplated doing the same with my Dream the other day!

      3M Velcro from hardware store and black zip ties to make sure. Only use three dots of velcro on the back of your pedals is usually good, but if you dont want it coming off cover the whole back. The time I did that and wanted to change the pedal, I had to pull so hard to get it off, when it came loose I hit myself in the chin.

      I think it’s fascinating that anyone would listen to my cadence and ramblings and think it’s a script. I write absolutely nothing for these videos even though I ought to.

      I’ve got a reference monitor mounted above the camera for checking exposure / framing / focus. If I’m not looking at camera it’s either that or it’s my natural discomfort with being on camera and being bad at eye contact which means I’m just averting my eyes generally

      @@markjohnstonofficial That's a good idea with a screen to look at to be sure of where you are in the shot. I have a problem where I sometimes inadvertently stare at the camera whilst I am playing guitar and it gives an odd thousand yard stare appearance. I try to avoid doing it but it's just something that happens. Best really if I look at something else off to the side of the camera and fix my eyes on it. Just looks really odd when looking straight into the camera. I don't do any talking to the camera stuff at all, it's a very peculiar sensation sitting on your own and talking to nobody but a camera....feels very strange. Irrespective of my first message I did actually enjoy your video and will definitely watch more. Keep at it. Apologies for my first message.
