Don’t feel bad y’all, some people just learn things later in life and that’s completely fine. And things work differently for everyone. I’m 26 and someone’s always done it for me too, but I also know a lot of people around our age that haven’t learned to do this or cook either.

I did laundry occasionally as a kid, then my own in the Army from ages 20-30. I haven't bothered with separating clothes since I was about12 or so. I think its a waste of time.

Okay...My son was complaining about sorting laundry because “who does that anymore?” And I really don’t sort it, so I was having him just sort clothes and towels. Anyway-I did a Google search to prove my point and found your video. Thank for sharing these tips and doing it in such a kind way that didn’t make me feel terrible for not doing it all along! I have three sons and laundry feels out of control. I’m gonna try that sorting tip and I like how you said you do it while visiting with them while they straighten their room. #goals. Excited to binge the rest of your content.

I try to do full loads, so most of the time, I would just separate into dark and light. I used to wash the towels separately, but now, I just separate by colors to have less loads. Then I see which load is the biggest, and if its big enough, I wash it then. If its still not big enough, I will wait a day or two to have more laundry to wash together.

Love your family especially your mom ... why not just buy or make laundry baskets that have 3 sections ... or just have a central place for kids to place their dirty laundry and then u can sort .. I just do laundry on cold setting and low heat for all clothes ( I don't buy whites ) as soon as the basket is full so it's never overwhelming

Love this very practical video. Many people have never been taught how to sort laundry. this. My choice on the colorfast B&W top would be to wash it with lights so the white would stay white.
I have a basic top load washer. To keep my whites white, I sprinkle 1/2 cup baking soda into the empty drum, pour 1/2 cup white vinegar into the fabric softener dispenser, place my white laundry evenly in the washer, and pour liquid or powdered Tide evenly on top of the white laundry.
This has kept my whites very white for years, but I do miss the smell of bleach and may go back to using it once in a while. Do you use it full strength or diluted? When do you add it?
Thanks and I look forward to reading your answer. Happy New Year!

Too funny Dolphin Man. With so many male members in our family I know exactly what you are talking about. You will have to tell us how it works for you. Also if your laundry is already dingy you may have to run the loads of laundry through a couple of times with a cup of Borax and vinegar along with your detergent to get rid of the dinginess. Hope this helped.

Hi ladies, I too, have limited space for laundry baskets, so I keep mine in a remote corner of the house, then simply tote the basket to the laundry room as needed. A few years ago I found a 3-basket set at Walmart, so no more sorting, and I can see at a glance which one is fullest! Not to worry...each basket is very slim, so they all nest together very closely : )

I put a cheap light plastic football in the washing machine and wrap a towel or sheet or in a few shirts around it to help balance the washing so more water is extracted on spinning after rinsing.

When I was a kid (I'm 62 now), color fast clothing was virtually unknown. This is no longer the case. I used to separate whites when I was in my 20s. I don't wear whites except as underwear or socks, so this is no longer an issue. It costs me 13 quarters ($3.25) to do one batch in one machine. Drying takes 5 more quarters ($1.25). I don't detect any difference in the final outcome, whether I toss them all in one machine or separating into two, except for the increased cost.
As it is now, I wash clothes about every 8 -10 days. And it costs less than $5.00 per load. And I only ever do one load. I don't own enough clothes for a second load.

  • @CookingwithCatLover0330

LOL Tawra in the background! But yes, good questions! I honestly don't separate my clothes in colors and whites/lights. I separate them into oil/garage or well...... clean! LOL! We have a mowing/mower fixing business and those clothes, white or not turn out green, oil or gas stained. Love your videos, Ladies!

You are so funny! I thought to myself, "why separate"? And you asked. I make videos on cooking and sort of explain the whys and hows because so many people really don't know the "simple" facts. We as Americans aren't teaching our children. Jill did a great job with you and I figure, your brother. My Dad raised 4 kids on his own and I am 10 yrs older than you. I love your channel!
