Not hard to do but amazing how many people don't sort laundry anymore. Get more tips from Jill in her Penny Pinching mama book here www.livingonadime.com/store/penny-pinching-mama/
I’m 34 and I’ve never been taught how to do laundry. Someone has always done it for me. Today’s my first time doing my children’s laundry. Thanks for the tips!
Don’t feel bad y’all, some people just learn things later in life and that’s completely fine. And things work differently for everyone. I’m 26 and someone’s always done it for me too, but I also know a lot of people around our age that haven’t learned to do this or cook either.
I did laundry occasionally as a kid, then my own in the Army from ages 20-30. I haven't bothered with separating clothes since I was about12 or so. I think its a waste of time.
Thank you. This is a great first step to doing the laundry. I am a 23 year old who wants to start doing the laundry in the best correct way possible at home.
I didn't really need to watch this video, but you gals are just so pleasant to watch, I could watch you all day.. Your down-to-earth style is just so refreshing. Bless you all!
Okay...My son was complaining about sorting laundry because “who does that anymore?” And I really don’t sort it, so I was having him just sort clothes and towels. Anyway-I did a Google search to prove my point and found your video. Thank for sharing these tips and doing it in such a kind way that didn’t make me feel terrible for not doing it all along! I have three sons and laundry feels out of control. I’m gonna try that sorting tip and I like how you said you do it while visiting with them while they straighten their room. #goals. Excited to binge the rest of your content.
I try to do full loads, so most of the time, I would just separate into dark and light. I used to wash the towels separately, but now, I just separate by colors to have less loads. Then I see which load is the biggest, and if its big enough, I wash it then. If its still not big enough, I will wait a day or two to have more laundry to wash together.
Love your family especially your mom ... why not just buy or make laundry baskets that have 3 sections ... or just have a central place for kids to place their dirty laundry and then u can sort .. I just do laundry on cold setting and low heat for all clothes ( I don't buy whites ) as soon as the basket is full so it's never overwhelming
Love this very practical video. Many people have never been taught how to sort laundry. this. My choice on the colorfast B&W top would be to wash it with lights so the white would stay white. I have a basic top load washer. To keep my whites white, I sprinkle 1/2 cup baking soda into the empty drum, pour 1/2 cup white vinegar into the fabric softener dispenser, place my white laundry evenly in the washer, and pour liquid or powdered Tide evenly on top of the white laundry. This has kept my whites very white for years, but I do miss the smell of bleach and may go back to using it once in a while. Do you use it full strength or diluted? When do you add it? Thanks and I look forward to reading your answer. Happy New Year!
O' my friend Jill , you have been a big help. Yes my struggle with my " Man Laundry " as of now will be over. Thank you now I will never ever , ever never, never never ever have M.L.C. ,,,,,,Male -Laundry- Confusion.
Too funny Dolphin Man. With so many male members in our family I know exactly what you are talking about. You will have to tell us how it works for you. Also if your laundry is already dingy you may have to run the loads of laundry through a couple of times with a cup of Borax and vinegar along with your detergent to get rid of the dinginess. Hope this helped.
Hi ladies, I too, have limited space for laundry baskets, so I keep mine in a remote corner of the house, then simply tote the basket to the laundry room as needed. A few years ago I found a 3-basket set at Walmart, so no more sorting, and I can see at a glance which one is fullest! Not to worry...each basket is very slim, so they all nest together very closely : )
Whites, with Whites. ( If there happens to be a little color in a white Garment,In your Whites, add a color Catcher.) Lights, with Lights - Colors, with Colors, - Darks, with Darks. This same color sorting listed above also applies to towels, and sheets..
I put a cheap light plastic football in the washing machine and wrap a towel or sheet or in a few shirts around it to help balance the washing so more water is extracted on spinning after rinsing.
When I was a kid (I'm 62 now), color fast clothing was virtually unknown. This is no longer the case. I used to separate whites when I was in my 20s. I don't wear whites except as underwear or socks, so this is no longer an issue. It costs me 13 quarters ($3.25) to do one batch in one machine. Drying takes 5 more quarters ($1.25). I don't detect any difference in the final outcome, whether I toss them all in one machine or separating into two, except for the increased cost. As it is now, I wash clothes about every 8 -10 days. And it costs less than $5.00 per load. And I only ever do one load. I don't own enough clothes for a second load.
LOL Tawra in the background! But yes, good questions! I honestly don't separate my clothes in colors and whites/lights. I separate them into oil/garage or well...... clean! LOL! We have a mowing/mower fixing business and those clothes, white or not turn out green, oil or gas stained. Love your videos, Ladies!
You are so funny! I thought to myself, "why separate"? And you asked. I make videos on cooking and sort of explain the whys and hows because so many people really don't know the "simple" facts. We as Americans aren't teaching our children. Jill did a great job with you and I figure, your brother. My Dad raised 4 kids on his own and I am 10 yrs older than you. I love your channel!
I find when I do White's it's worth salvaging the soapy water as it's relatively clean, I have a pipe from the machine into the sink so it's easy to salvage the water for my next White's wash.
First thing first I just don’t wear white white clothes and I usually just do one laundry with both color and dark all together , since I only do one person laundry it will take forever for me to collect clothes with separated color. Haha easy! Most time you can’t tell the difference:)
After watching so many many videos of buy this buy that organise like this like that. This is amazing makes so much scene and i can work with what we have love it! :-)
A slight risk buttons or stud's can rip clothes on fast spin. Maybe an idea to clean things without buttons stud's or zips separately so they less likely get ripped
I have hand washed my blue hat that had a red sign on it, i added some washing detergent and washed it on hand, well the red has run on my blue hat! how the heck did that happen i dont know, i didnt mix it with any other clothing item or put it in wash? any advice thanks x.
I just put all the colors in one wash. I put my jeans and bulky (pull overs, jackets, blankets, etc) in one wash. I am a single father with a "now" teenage daughter that is picky about her black or blue jeans fading, or destroying the screen printed anime/comic shirts. I have to advance my laundry skills.
+Living On A Dime my unfortunate family. LOL. Oh well, one day I will get the hang of it sometime.😜 Thanks for sharing, y'all! I appreciate all the videos. I have learned SO much. Please keep them coming!

I did laundry occasionally as a kid, then my own in the Army from ages 20-30. I haven't bothered with separating clothes since I was about12 or so. I think its a waste of time.
As a 18 year old living on my own for the first time and my mother too sick to teach me. You’re doing gods work

Thank your mother for me! I'm 25 and I never learned how to sort colours properly until today, ruined quite a few shirts over the years lol. 👍👏
Failed Offerings I’m 41 and have never sorted. I’m going to start!
Why?
Okay...My son was complaining about sorting laundry because “who does that anymore?” And I really don’t sort it, so I was having him just sort clothes and towels. Thanks for being friends who have become family. Love you all.. and I relate to you so much with my cf/ fibro. You are a breath of fresh air!
27-year-old single dude just starting to start my laundry. Thank you for the wisdom!
Love the info about going through each clothe baskets and getting what the you have most of and washing them up daily. Great advice!

My frugal life so do you wash towels with darks?? I know it's a dumb question but I'm going to college lol
I don't own enough clothes to do more than one load.

My laundry room isn't big enough for 3 baskets. You can see it here. ua-cam.com/video/NKfdIYRO_iM/v-deo.html
Like Tawra said many don't have a large laundry room and often have their washers just in a closet space.
Sometimes you can’t even afford 3 baskets lmao
I love listening to Jill!
thank you!! good information!! good questions !! thank you!!
You are so welcome!
jill you and yr family are a joy to watch love you all!!!

Should you also sort by type of fabric as well?
I wash fuzzy socks with towels.
This was so helpful. I am 33 years old and I was tired of guessing how to wash laundry.
Great tips again Momma Jill! Love ya sweet lady!- Tasha Farrell
Love it! Great information as always Jill! XOXO
Blanca W she’s wonderful huh?!

I’m 13 and I’m turning 14 so I’m starting to learn to do this now
Wish I was being taught this sooner, happy late birthday
Mine is very easy, clothes, towels, and sheets. We don't have very many white so I need not worried about separating clothes.
you end it the best jill
At the age of 27 i learned from you thank you
Where do jeans fall in? Do you wash ALL darks/whites/lights together regardless of weight or fabric type?
I usually just wash them by themselves to play it safe.
I find when I do White's it's worth salvaging the soapy water as it's relatively clean, I have a pipe from the machine into the sink so it's easy to salvage the water for my next White's wash.
I love that charcoal color sweater you have on, where is it from?
I just love you ladies!
Thanks!
Thank you for this because it helped me!👍🏼

Thanks Jill
What a sweet lady. Thanks for the tips :)
After watching so many many videos of buy this buy that organise like this like that. This is amazing makes so much scene and i can work with what we have love it! :-)
I wash at a laundry mat this might be difficult for me. If I have dark towels can they go in the dark pile?
Thanks! I’m 46 and my mind was blown. Better late the never 😂
A slight risk buttons or stud's can rip clothes on fast spin. Maybe an idea to clean things without buttons stud's or zips separately so they less likely get ripped
I use fine mesh laundry bags to keep things like this separate.
I was googling what colorfast means and then I heard the voice in the video asking LOL!
i love this video😂
Thank you!
Need help with sorting the colors
Good tips
I have hand washed my blue hat that had a red sign on it, i added some washing detergent and washed it on hand, well the red has run on my blue hat!
how the heck did that happen i dont know, i didnt mix it with any other clothing item or put it in wash?

My mom's out of the house for a week so I need to learn how to do it for my dad and I since we both don't know how to
"Fuzzy nubby things" . . . LOL :)
thanks grandma
Great Idea. Where have you been all my life?
Got the feeling inside out is best and button the shirts so the collars don't scuff on the drum so much.
So do you wash clothes everyday?
Yeah laundry baskets make a place look much more tidy.
You are awesome
SHE'S SOOO CUTE!! SUBSCRIBED (:
I just had to say you have absolutely beautiful hair
Nope. Those kids need to sort their own laundry. Take it to the laundry room, separate into the marked bins.
Thanks gram gram!
But wouldn’t the darks bleed out on to the white part of that flowery shirt?
I’m about to turn 23, and would just separate my dark from my whites, but now I know why some of my lighter clothes were turning dark lol
I know...I don't have them on the floor..I use them as blankets until I finally have to go to the laundromat. I'm just kidding 😁
I just put all the colors in one wash. I put my jeans and bulky (pull overs, jackets, blankets, etc) in one wash. I am a single father with a "now" teenage daughter that is picky about her black or blue jeans fading, or destroying the screen printed anime/comic shirts. I have to advance my laundry skills.
things were better when we separated the darks from the lights 😎
I only buy dark colored socks. I don't get why they even sell white socks.
I’m not the only one 😭
Pretty sure the questions were asked for us and not because her daughter didn't remember the answers.
💕💞
Wait, people really separate laundry?😣😣
LOL! Yes, we do. :-)
+Living On A Dime my unfortunate family. LOL. Oh well, one day I will get the hang of it sometime.😜 Thanks for sharing, y'all! I appreciate all the videos. I have learned SO much. Please keep them coming!
Megan Lewis how do you wash clothes without separating them????
Thankyou 😊
Thanks!
Thank you!
