14:23 bravo to the clarinet player 👏🏻
Perhaps THE best version of the huge bassoon solo I’ve heard. I’ve played this killer several times. Theo Platt gives this a loneliness and sense of haunting I’ve heard nowhere else.
Easily the best performance of the Shostakovich 9 that I have ever heard, starting with the conductor and ending with the piccolo.
The troll move by shostakovich still sounds amazingly good!
the bassoonist in amazing, the solo is really something else
IKR
An Orchestra with very fine woodwinds, and a super bassonist on topp!

14:22 - III. Presto
17:13 - IV. Largo

Thanks you
Nicholas Collon is one of our best young conductors. He has a great repertoire.
What a great 'little' symphony and what a performance - the principal clarinettist, principal flautist and, of course, the principal bassoonist are just magnificent. I've loved Shostakovich for years and have always considered this a lesser symphony but when you hear it played like this you just have to marvel at the man - he was a wonder!
the context in which was made, makes me apprecciate this piece even more
That bassoon solo was amazing!
Shostakovich for ever. One of my favourite symphony moments is those strings moving up and down in 3/4 in the 2nd movement and the hobo coming in. Just heavenly...
Amazing bassoon solo!!
yeah that was gorgeous!
@@Cadenza93 -- I'd forgotten all about it till now....BRAVO from San Agustinillo, Oaxaca!
Absolutely!!!
Shostakovich showed his brilliance on mastering woodwind section in this symphony, really love it!
The orchestra is excellent, but that concert hall sets it off magnificently.
Grazie a questi Signori Musicisti.
Great playing from the wind especially
I think this was first time listening to this symphony carefully--it really grabbed by attention with its use of woodwinds and brass, especially with solos and duets. Well played! A delightful experience.

6:20 - II. Moderato
14:22 - III. Presto
17:13 - Largo
20:46 - Allegretto
Bravo Collon ! Sempre grande l' hr-orchestra di Francoforte !
phenomenal clarinets in the presto....fantastic orchestra, just fantastic!
This is a great symphony, and perhaps even more impressive for its change of pace from his previous symphonies. And it's a great performance, needless to say, from the FRSO.
hilarious and awesome seeing the 21:14 left-hand self knee tap by the princ clarinet applauding the bassoon solo. you love to see it
What a wonderful performance - I keep coming back to this year after year
So, Shostakovich here is neo-classical like Prokofiev no 1.Id like this one to be played more often!
EXCELLENT! GREAT PERFORMANCE!
A very, very good performance! Thank you!!!
The first movement was an outright sh*tpost by Shostakovich. Love the humor in the movement especially when one looks into its history.
Wow!!! Bravo,beautifully done guys
Großartiges Orchester !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Allegro always makes me dance
Bravo!!!
This is the defining recording of Mvt. 2.
damn they have a new bassoonist it seems like. A young good one!
Theo Plath is just a beast, he also won 3rd prize in the ARD competition. You should check out a video where he plays Paganini's Caprice n°5 with double tonguing and circular breathing
What a beautiful thing and interesting symphony!
the woodwind section is so good ;)
Powerful rendering.

Simply excellent.
I love this symphony. It's like a big F you to Mr. Joseph.
Nun will ich sofort Bernstein anhören.
Bitte ignorieren meine Kommentare.
Terrific
Una fiesta.

Great performance but I think the 1st movement could be played with a bit more sarcasm and wit
What's a youtube performance I should listen to as a point of comparison?
@@TheOmninovoi you might want to check out gergiev conducting the mariinsky orchestra - the first movement feels a little grittier/edgier (:
20:45 trop beau !
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽😍😍😍😍
Wonderful performance! Could the orchestra soon record Philip Glass's ninth symphony? It's unfortunate that there's barely any contemporary classical music on this channel - it would be marvellous if they could.
I agree!!! There's not a single complete recording of a Glass symphony performance anywhere. This channel seems to be smashing performances daily but I wonder when they'll have the courage to do Glass.
I. Allegro ∙ 00:20
II. Moderato ∙ 06:21
III. Presto - Largo - Allegretto ∙ 14:23
Wasn't Shostakovich a magician?
Considering he survived Stalin, after insulting him with this symphony, he must have been.

Min18.00 ca bravo maestro Plath 😮
I explain the technicalities but it sounds like some purists do not listen for the artistry and are not having as much fun with the extremities going on in this music, it is though a masterpiece of in key sequence :->) Listen to the music not your brain. The waving armsman is having as much fun as me and the orchestra, we know what music is for, amusement.

Excellent orchestre.
That shows you how well he knows the piece, or doesn't....

Love the piece, love the solos
but why does the Conductor look so tired and annoyed lmfao
well conducting seems like a really tough job tbf
I agree!
It's not convincing to me.
The concept of the first movement, in particular, is not very clearly set out. The last movement is played very well, though. And all the soloists are superb.
a Stalin no le gusta esto
And rappers think they are though, shostakovich’s opps were stalin and his commie guys, imagine having beef with a fkn dictator ahahahaha what a true chad
