I'm not sure that these recordings would have been "massive" in the UK. Lou Reed was an unknown then. And there was a hell of a lot of competition in the early to mid 60's. I love this stuff. But I think it's almost impossible to not view it for how Reed later became - and then that success was marginal. And I've been a Lou Reed/VU fan for 52 years.
@@thomasmaxwellshore Indeed. it was around that time. Bowie was playing “Waiting for the Man” live then. Bowie went to visit Andy Warhol in the early 70’s. But Reed had briefly retired from music then ( to work for his father ) after he left the VU.
I dig it! Definitely first wave, but for me I have yet to find anything earlier than The Trashmen’s 1963 “Surfin’ Bird” that fits the bill as first punk
The more I hear of these early Lou Reed tracks, the more I'm convinced that his stuff would have been massive in the UK if they'd got airplay.
Sneaky Pete and Cycle Annie are also great Lou songs from this era.

Bowie was the first to get into Lou Reed and that was about 67/68?

Love the Pickwick stuff...man, what a glorious racket! But is there a washboard on there? Kinda sounds like it, especially on the outro.

The Bixby works pretty good with a roller Bridge.
Them old Gretch Guitars were a lovely sound.
The new ones lack some of the tone.
