Graham it’s all looking just fab mate! Little things like the tarp finish over the train looks just fantastic along with the guys in the ash pit! ALL just wonderful mate! JohnE
EtonieE That’s really kind of you to say that John - thank you. It’s nice to see some of the old stuff from the previous layout starting to appear back on this layout but this time it’s much easier to see the details and of course - to operate too as it’s right in front of me this time. Cheers for now mate. ............Graham
Amazing what you have done in the last two months to your "extension". The stills capture beautifully how you have added life and atmosphere to a collection of models and parts. Well done yet again! Stephen
Stephen Pike Thank you very much Stephen, that’s really appreciated. Yes, I’m pleased with the way this has turned out so far, as I said in the video, just a few more bits and pieces to finish it off - until I see another tweak I need to do of course! 😉👍🏻. Cheers for now mate. ............Graham
As usual great work Graham. I volunteer when I can at NNR engine sheds - mostly cleaning and polishing. The area outside the sheds is black. One thing that they have regularly in the Loco sheds is a wagon or two. There are separate carriage sheds of course. And any coloured loco - in our case green or blue - is kept cleaner than the black one's.
Ian B Well Ian, I never knew that, perhaps I should put a wagon in one of the sheds then, I would had never thought of that. Out of interest, why would they keep a wagon in a shed - I’m intrigued! I don’t have the room for carriage sheds unfortunately so I can’t do that but thanks for the informative comment, it’s greatly appreciated- thank you. Cheers for now mate. .............Graham
@@GrahamFoulston Hi Graham, in the case of the one they have in there at the moment, it's being restored. If they had room I imagine it would be in the carriage works. But as the wagons are relatively short there always seems to be room for one or two at the back - obviously behind the Loco's which need to be able to get out. The wagon that was in there a month ago had it's wheels off - they were being replaced. On a heritage line the wagons and trucks are basically decorative, and are often parked in sidings so when a train of carriages passes - with paying customers - they look nice. Also I forgot to mention that there is a small diesel - an 08 I think - which is used to pull the steamers out of the shed, either to get them out of the way or before the long slow process of steaming them up.
Philip Page Many thanks Philip and no need to thank me mate - it should be me thanking you for the kind comment! Thank you. 👍🏻👍🏻. Cheers for now. ...............Graham

Graham - Considering as you say you have designed the depot just from seeing pictures, I can honestly say you have done a fantastic job and I am sure very proud of yourself, if I built a depot to that exceptional quality, I would be. Fantastic work!

I think it looks just wonderful. The covered engine turned out absolutely great. I have to admit I never thought of this space as a heritage yard. But it just seems so perfectly fitting now to the story of your railroad. Thank you for sharing this!!!!!
Justin Fox Many thanks Justin, I had planned three areas for this side extension, the heritage yard, the container area and the traction maintenance depot at the far end. None of them will be particularly big because of limited space but it just gives an impression which is all I’m after for this layout. Cheers for now mate. ...........Graham
Another outstanding video. Your Steam Depot looks fantastic. some very authentic looking touches especially the tarp covered loco. I can just see a preservation group doing exactly that while waiting for funding or parts to be available. Thank you yet again I do look forward to seeing your progress.
Michael Thurgar Many thanks for those kind words Michael, I did try to replicate as much as I could within the small area from what I had seen in the photos and videos, I couldn’t put anything else in really as I didn’t want it to look cluttered - maybe just one or two other things but that will be it. Glad you've had a better week, take care mate cheers Andy
Moorland Model Railway Andy Hi Andy and thank you for the kind comment, I think that what I’m trying do, the lack of space and more importantly, lack of knowledge on all things railway then prototypical is out the window as far as I’m concerned, I’m just concentrating on how I want my model railway to appear to me and if I’m happy with this then that will do for me. Fantastic Steam Engine depot area Graham.. You should be proud on what you've done so far on your layout. The Steam Engine area looks like something out of an Hornby or BRM magazine.. Maybe they should do an article on your layout when you are done..
John A. Dawson Hi John and thank you very much for your very kind comment and really pleased that you like the steam engine area. I have to admit that I have steered clear of having Lakeside in magazines even when it gets further developed, I don’t mind people seeing it on UA-cam or FaceBook but for some reason I think it’s a form of boasting and especially so if you end up posting on UA-cam showing the layout in a magazine. It’s just me, I’m just not that keen on the idea of being in a magazine. Cheers for now mate. ............Graham
casey nightingale goldsbury That’s great mate that this has inspired you for ideas on your own layout, that’s what this hobby is all about - the sharing of ideas and techniques Cheers for now mate. ............Graham
cbgadget Thank you Cary, yes the turntable is a cracking unit, it works so well especially as I now have it operating on the iPad too- one less controller to think about! 👍🏻. Cheers for now mate. ............Graham
davie maclean Thanks Davie, with all the photos and videos I’ve seen then this area is a conglomeration of some of the sights I saw, I can’t fit everything on without it looking too cluttered so I have done my best to just give the feel for what a typical heritage steam shed area looks like which is good enough for me, it’s only a model representation after all but I’m pleased with it which is the main thing. 👍🏻. Cheers for now mate. .............Graham

Excellent work as always Graham. I'm hoping to start on a Heritage Station and Engine Shed at Pennyhill Junction in the not too distant future and will certainly take a lot of inspiration from your work. All the best Jamie

Silky Jack Thank you very much, I think collectively it all comes together now and like you said, the loco with the tarp on completed it I think. Cheers for now mate. .............Graham
I am still amazed how lakeside keeps developing. All ways enthralled by your video's. Couldn't agree more with your statement. If I am happy with it that's all that matters. All the very best Lindsay
pohl54 Thank you Lindsay and I have to have that kind of philosophy with this layout, I can’t please everyone obviously so I have to please myself and I’m doing that just fine. It’s just a wonderful hobby for me to have fun and I’m getting that by the bucket loads and that to me is the important thing. Cheers for now mate. ............Graham
Dave Henshaw Hi Dave and thank you, yes some Buddleias would look good on there especially at the back of the sheds by the fence, I will make some up to go there. Cheers for now mate. ...........Graham
Layton Junction Thank you my friend and I’m pleased that you enjoyed it, I enjoyed building the scene too, it was good fun. Cheers for now mate. ...........Graham
William Cross Thank you very much William for the kind comment, I think adding detail is what makes or breaks a layout but pleased that you like this so far. Cheers for now mate. ............Graham

Medway Peninsula Model Railway Thanks Kev and the tarp came out so much better than I thought it would - I really like it. 👍🏻. Cheers for now mate. ............Graham
I love the work you have done on the steam depot, Graham. That lift is the dog's dodahs. I hope you did not nick Mrs. F's hair products to do the job! An amazing eye for detail, as usual, Graham.
Nigel Carter Thanks mate and so pleased that you like this area so far. Mrs F actually gave me the can of hair spray but it was almost empty anyway - she won’t be getting it back! 😂😂. Cheers for now mate. ...........Graham
@@GrahamFoulston I'm in my late 60s and have just started building my first model railway and you are a great inspiration to me. I'll probably never achieve the amazing skill which you have but I'll have a bloody good time whatever I achieve. Thanks once again for sharing your hobby with us.
gt40mk1 Hi again mate, well you are a few years younger than me so don’t let your age put you off, I have only been doing this for about 6 years myself but I’ve learnt a lot from watching others so I’m sure given a little time then you will be doing some great work too, but the important thing is to enjoy whatever part you are doing and don’t let it become a chore - just have fun doing it! 👍🏻👍🏻. That is a first class job, Graham. I think all modellers should consider a heritage line because it seems to me that after 2023 when the ban on burning coal is introduced, they will be no more, well, not steam. Hard to see them running on smokeless, it is twice the price!
henry porter Hi Henry and thank you for the comment. I didn’t realise that about the coal being banned in 2023 - that was a real shock, so what will happen to all the steamers then - worrying! Cheers for now mate. ...........Graham
John W Thank you very much for the kind comment John, I really appreciate that. The tarpaulin eon the loco was something I had wanted to do but up until now had no place for it but I think it fits in very well where it is. Cheers for now mate. ............Graham

I’m sorry but this is just too good to be true , must be CGI , only joking just inspirational , ideas ideas ideas , love the old train , metcalfe sheds look great , bike shed , just brilliant , the gates look great , now to get the people walking and talking . Lift just genius and now the turntable is just getting sublime . Hats off
Nigel Weir Blimey Nigel, praise indeed! Thank you sir and so pleased that you like it, it’s funny how you imagine something in your mind and you see it gradually coming together and this is just how this scene happened and I’m really pleased with the way it has come out. Anyway, thank you once again, your comment is greatly appreciated. Cheers for now. ............Graham
That looks amazing Graham. I can't believe the speed you've got it done in. BTW if you're ever around North Wales let me know and I'll give you a guided tour of the shed at Llangollen Railway ;)
Pwll-Y-Ddraig I have to say that I completed this much quicker than I thought I would considering all the wiring I had to do for the dropper wires and lighting.- still took a long time though but it was good fun. Cheers for now mate. ............Graham
Hi Graham, you have done a wonderful job on the Engine Shed area. It has a natural look about it. The only thing I would say is I think the weathering of the fence near the engine shed might be a bit over done. Cheers Greg
Gregory Hale Hi Greg and thank you for your kind comment. Yes, as I said in the video, the fence in particular needs finishing off plus a few other areas too but I had to stop where I was to make the video but hopefully I can do those little things during the coming week. Overall, I’m very happy with it but it just needs finishing off now. Cheers for now mate. ...........Graham

Wow Graham I think that is brilliant. Fills that corner so well. Are you going to have a hoist for changing loco wheels, they seem to be at most steam yards ? Keep the great ideas and work coming. Thanks so very much for sharing your ideas. Clive.
Clive briggs Hi Clive and of course, what a great idea to have a hoist, I will have to get one, it shouldn’t take up much room either. Fantastic mate - thank you and thank you too for the great comment, it’s greatly appreciated. Cheers for now. ..........Graham

The depot looks amazing! I think a coaching depot would look fitting on the other side so that the steam locos go around the layout to collect coaches (steam or diesel) it would also be a good place to stable dmu’s
Fred's trains Thank you Fred, the coaching depot will never happen mate, I just haven’t the room, the other side will be taken up with the lake and the old heritage line but a good thought though. Cheers for now mate. ............Graham
All looks great. Just one question: shouldn’t the two aspect signal behind the steamer shed be changed now there is a junction to the container yard? It says something when the only improvement I can think of is so minor! Brilliant work Graham.
Edd Herring Hi Edd, to be honest, I wouldn’t have a clue if that signal needs changing or not and if it did need changing then I wouldn’t know what to change it to. To me, as long as there is a signal there with a couple of lights that change colour then that’ll do for me - not lazy, just a lack of knowledge. 😂. Cheers for now mate. ..............Graham
Jan Jaap Klomp I think it might be a bit tight to get a track in there now but I will have a look the next time I am up in the train room, if it looks too tight then I won’t bother, it doesn’t matter to me it being on a small piece of track and something which I have seen in a photo so it exists in real life. The coal gets into the tenders by a mechanical shovel but I haven’t the room for that on this scene which is why I haven’t put one on - after all, it is just a model and not trying to be prototypical. Cheers for now. ............Graham

Really impressed with steam depot Graham. Nicely done and so realistic. Well done. Iain
M M That’s really kind of you to say Iain, thank you so much. Cheers for now mate. .............Graham
Steam depot look superb and beautiful keep up the good work it definitly inspired me and given me some ideas for my layout
casey nightingale goldsbury That’s great mate that this has inspired you for ideas on your own layout, that’s what this hobby is all about - the sharing of ideas and techniques Cheers for now mate. ............Graham
Excellent details Graham, everything is looking very real.
I love the sound the turntable makes when moving. Thanks for sharing 👍👍👍😎😎😎 Cary
cbgadget Thank you Cary, yes the turntable is a cracking unit, it works so well especially as I now have it operating on the iPad too- one less controller to think about! 👍🏻. Cheers for now mate. ............Graham
Your railway, your rules - as ever Graham. I think it looks great and harkens back to the Riverside Mk 1 sheds but witha bit more elbow room. Cheers
davie maclean Thanks Davie, with all the photos and videos I’ve seen then this area is a conglomeration of some of the sights I saw, I can’t fit everything on without it looking too cluttered so I have done my best to just give the feel for what a typical heritage steam shed area looks like which is good enough for me, it’s only a model representation after all but I’m pleased with it which is the main thing. 👍🏻. Cheers for now mate. .............Graham
Very atmospheric Graham, brilliant, excellent modelling skills, always look forward to your updates
Colin newmarch Thank you Colin, you comment is greatly appreciated mate, thank you. Cheers for now. ............Graham
Great work on the layout. Will borrow some ideas for my own layout.👍👍👍
colin Brown You go ahead Colin, copy as much as you want my friend, that’s what it’s all about but hopefully you will make a better job of it than me! 😂😂. Cheers for now mate. .............Graham
Very good Graham loco sheds look fantastic Regards Martin
Coalbridge Junction Many thanks Martin, still some very small amounts of detail to finish off but it’s basically done now. Cheers for now mate. ...........Graham

I'm hoping to start on a Heritage Station and Engine Shed at Pennyhill Junction in the not too distant future and will certainly take a lot of inspiration from your work.
All the best

The layout is looking awesome Graham. Love the turntable. The details your putting onto it are really noticeable. Thanks for sharing. Ken
M and B Homestead Thank you very much Ken and pleased that you like it so far, not much left to do now and then I can move onto the container yard section, hopefully that will be a little easier! Cheers for now mate. ............Graham
Cracking loco sheds graham. All looks spot on. That tarp is also the business. 👍👍
Silky Jack Thank you very much, I think collectively it all comes together now and like you said, the loco with the tarp on completed it I think. Cheers for now mate. .............Graham
The steam depot is looking stunning. Great work there Graham
matt slade That’s very kind of you to say Matt - thank you very much. 👍🏻. Cheers for now buddy. ............Graham
Looks fantastic Graham, the weathering really sets it off. Couple of buddleias would look good. Damn stuff grows everywhere. Cheers Graham.
Dave Henshaw Hi Dave and thank you, yes some Buddleias would look good on there especially at the back of the sheds by the fence, I will make some up to go there. Cheers for now mate. ...........Graham
back on top form again good to have you back on form again beautiful work really is stunning fabulous very enjoyable to watch 👍👍😃

Onno Mulder Thank you very much Onno, your continued support is always appreciated. Cheers for now mate. .............Graham
Brilliant Graham you have a great eye for detail thanks again for the video.
William Cross Thank you very much William for the kind comment, I think adding detail is what makes or breaks a layout but pleased that you like this so far. Cheers for now mate. ............Graham
Great work Graham - although had to laugh at 07:04 when you read out the new sign as "UNAuthorised Personnel Only"
Steve Wood Hi Steve, I have no idea why I said that especially as I was reading what was on the sign - I just put it down to an age thing! 😂😂. Cheers for now mate. .........Graham
Smashing Graham. highlight for me the Tarp so realistic you could almost feel the grease on it...…………..Cheers Kev
Amazing. I never thought that Metcalfe kits could look so good. Looking forward to seeing more! D
David Spottiswoode Many thanks David, that’s a really kind comment to make - thank you. Cheers for now mate. ............Graham

gt40mk1 Thanks mate and I’m pleased that you like it so far. Cheers for now. .............Graham
👍🏻👍🏻. Cheers for now mate. ...........Graham
Great job Graham, top workmanship my friend, cheers, Chris
Wheezy Palace N gauge Thank you for those very kind words Chris, that means a lot to me. Cheers for now mate. ............Graham
Great work Graham, a real credit to your detailing skills. Great video thanks Kevin
SF-RATON-NZ Many thanks Kevin and your comment is as always, much appreciated sir. Cheers for now mate. ............Graham
Looking great Graham, love the tarp on the old engine
Gary Butcher Thank you Gary and I’m very pleased with the way the tarpaulin came out and it didn’t take that long to do either! 👍🏻👍🏻. Cheers for now mate. ...........Graham
Very impressive yard & loco under cover looks good 👍🏻🇬🇧
gbjanuary Thank you, I have had this loco for years and had always thought about having this under a tarpaulin somewhere but didn’t have anywhere to put it up until now and I think it fits in very well where it is and I’m pleased that you like it too. Cheers for now mate. ..............Graham
Lakeside really is looking good Graham.
Mark Franks Many thanks Mark, Lakeside is gradually getting there. Cheers for now mate. .............Graham

Fantastic modelling Graham , such skill.....👌
Richard Swallow That’s really kind of you to say Richard and it’s greatly appreciated mate - thank you. Cheers for now. ...........Graham
It all is so vastly superior to what I do.A master craftsman well done!
Mark Fisher I’m sure your work is just as good as mine Mark, we all tend to underestimate our own work but thank you for the kind words my friend, they are greatly appreciated. Cheers for now mate. .............Graham
Graham, it applies to the burning of 'green' wood, as well! Madness!!!!!
henry porter Blimey, that’s going to cause a few problems then, I’m glad we hadn’t got a wood burner then!
Love all your stuff Graham but that engine with a tarp over it is a master stroke.
John W Thank you very much for the kind comment John, I really appreciate that. The tarpaulin eon the loco was something I had wanted to do but up until now had no place for it but I think it fits in very well where it is. Cheers for now mate. ............Graham
Wow... looks fantastic! Love the tarpaulin.
Ian Hills Thank you Ian and pleased that you like it so far. The tarpaulin worked out well I think and didn’t take long to do either. Cheers for now mate. ...........Graham
IPads and model railways??? Whatever next..nothing like that in our young days Graham .lol The depot looks amazing. Great stuff.
tim jd dowd In my day Tim it would have probably have been clockwork! 😂😂😂.
Looking great, Graham. As long as you like it then that is all that matters!
Exquisite. That's all that needs to be said. Absolutely exquisite.
Anthony Dodge The Model Train Outsider Wow, thank you Anthony, what more can I say except a huge thank you! 👍🏻👍🏻. Cheers for now buddy. ............Graham
Excellent work Graham, glad you had a better week, keep your chin up. I don't know if you've seen any of martin Zero's videos, but he toured a heritage railway sheds tonight, I'll put the link in the replies. Keep up the good work
ua-cam.com/video/i0zHQObeuLI/v-deo.html
Philip Lettley Hi Philip and thank you for the comment. Yes, a much better week mate. I had a look at the video and there were some interesting shots there - very informative. Cheers for now mate. ............Graham
Just checking in to make sure everything is alright..... haven't seen you post in about 2 weeks and just growing concerned ... hope all is well
Justin Fox Hi Justin and thank you for checking in, that’s really appreciated mate. Yes, everything is fine with no problems, I have been really busy on doing other things (mainly our cars) so I haven’t been able to do any work on the railway. Hopefully I can get back to the railway very shortly as most of the work is now complete. Cheers for now mate. ...........Graham
Really nice modelling Graham ........ 😎
Wilbury Castle 00 Railography Thank you mate and much appreciated sir. Cheers for now. ................. Graham

Hi mate nice work on the steam sheds looks awesome looks like the real thing like what you have done with the security fence with the rust affect
Anthony Strathmore road junction Thank you very much Anthony and so pleased that you like it, obviously I still need to finish a few little things off but it’s basically there and I’m really happy with it. Cheers for now mate. ...........Graham
Great video graham it looks really good keep up the great work
David's Trains Thank you David and much appreciated mate. Cheers for now. .............Graham
Looks GREAT!!! What is the software you are using on your iPad?
Blue68Camaro Thank you. The software is the standard app that is downloaded for the Z21. Hope that helps. Cheers for now. ............Graham

Fantastic job Graham.
Malcolm Myatt Thank you very much Malcolm, I really appreciate that, thank you. Cheers for now mate. ............Graham
Is it possible at all to connect the track under the old loco to the turntable? How you load the coal into the locs?
Jan Jaap Klomp I think it might be a bit tight to get a track in there now but I will have a look the next time I am up in the train room, if it looks too tight then I won’t bother, it doesn’t matter to me it being on a small piece of track and something which I have seen in a photo so it exists in real life. The coal gets into the tenders by a mechanical shovel but I haven’t the room for that on this scene which is why I haven’t put one on - after all, it is just a model and not trying to be prototypical. Cheers for now. ............Graham
Lovely detailed steam engine depot.
IBStevieB Thanks Stevie and pleased that you like it. Cheers for now mate. ............Graham
looks fantastic so good to see you have your mojo back
Darren Hold Thank you Darren and I have to admit that it’s great to have my mojo back again! 👍🏻. Cheers for now mate. .............Graham
