I like "Mom & Pop" coffee shops better that the evil-buck. Hmmm, why is there something that looks like a WWII nazi Buzz Bomb at 8:34 in front of the County Courthouse? When I lived in a SMALL town in Maine we had no movie theater, fancy restaurants and NO starbucks but we had each other. We would visit, have multi-family BBQ's & so on. Greencaste looks like a great place to live, it seems to still have a good small-town vibe. Only con would be the Wal-Mart. Thanks Chris and Joe for your time, work and posting. mike
@@slarson231 Wrong, just simply conservative. Theres never been any racial issues in any of the 5 decades Ive been associated w it. You personally might have had an issue.
@RickMcGuire-bl2vs Sorry, but wrong again. In Putnam, Montgomery, and surrounding areas, EVERYONE who votes for Trump is a racist. Trump walked down that Escalator, said Mexicans were criminals and rapists, now he says they are vermin and dirtying the blood of Americans. THAT IS RACISM STRAIGHT OUT OF HISTORY. Both said by Hitler and the KKK, Nazi's and 3%ers who attend every Trump Rally. People in Indiana say; "Racism is the point," when asked why they follow Trump. You think the Republi-con Party is yesterday's Republican Party. It not only isn't, but no one in that Party is a Christian, an American patriot, or anyone you'd want as a neighbor. You just aren't paying attention. Trump is also resurrecting Operation Wetback and going to put every person of Latino decent in Concentration Camps and deport them and their American citizen children. He says it at every single rally. And, people I've talked to all over Greencastle and Crawfordsville say that they can't wait . If you think Trump will stop at that, you are Sadly misguided and totally out of touch with who is advising him. And that definitely includes Mike Braun. And if you vote Trump, you also could care less if your female family members die in childbirth. Catch up.
What a nice little town! I agree with you about all the great stats on the town. Appreciated the interview with Joe! Nice job Chris!👍Any plans to do Bloomington, IN?
So I’m from Greencastle Indiana. I just seen this video six months later. We are now getting a YMCA. It’s currently being built. Is there anyway we can bump the livability score up to 100 out of 160 nice round numbers!!
@@ChrisHarden oh wow small world. Know someone had a neat house there. 1860 Federal all original right down to the skeleton key in the front door. House had maids quarters and a 2 seat Privy built right into the house with the door on the outside.
This excellent video is yet another example of both the intellectual and artistic care that goes into a Chris Harden production. My wife and I have been here numerous times and the look and feel of the place is nailed. A thorough discussion is shared of why the town is the way it is. It is rare to see the care exhibited by Chris in melding the look and the background into an experience/feel of a place. This is by far a great substitute for visiting a place in person. Furrhermore I strongly recommend if you are going to a place Chris has done a video of please see the video first to get a lot more out of your visit. Craig Novy
Greencastle is right down the road from where I live 27 miles to be exact. Greencastle is a pretty decent town which you should a video do a video of my town of Crawfordsville. Fun fact about Greencastle every year around the 2nd week there is a football game which have been a rivalry that’s been ongoing since 1890 which that call it the Monon Bell where Depauw plays Wabash College which is located in Crawfordsville

John Herbert Dillinger, Jr. (June 22, 1903 - July 22, 1934) was an American gangster and bank-robber in the Depression-era United States. He was charged, but never convicted, with the murder of an East Chicago police officer whom he shot in the knee while fleeing the scene of his heist. John Dillinger's largest haul was at the Central National Bank in Greencastle, Indiana, in 1933 one of six banks he robbed in Indiana.[6] In Our Past, Their Present: Historical Essays on Putnam County Indiana, John J. Baughman writes, "On Monday, October 23, 1933, four armed men entered the Central National Bank of Greencastle and escaped with $74,782.09. The Dillinger robbery became one of the major events of Greencastle history Adjusted for inflation that is 1.75 million dollars today.
I live here, and I really do love it, but I have some issues with it. 1) There isn't a pool suitable for exercise that is open to the public. They're putting in a YMCA, right now, and that isn't going to have a pool, either. This is a big thing for me, personally, because I have joint issues which limit the types of exercise that I can safely do. 2) Most of the jobs available do not pay well. With a private college being a major economic factor, the students spend money in the town. Being students, they don't have a ton of free time, and most of them go home for the summer- which is why the town doesn't have a lot of entertainment options. As for the community, we have a couple of factories and a couple of warehouses, but we had a factory close a few years ago, and that took a bunch of well-paying jobs away. I knew one person who had gotten a job there right out of highschool, stayed for a couple of decades, and had planned to retire from there, only to have it close. 3) The city seems to make a lot of decisions based on what the college wants, rather than what the community wants or needs. That being said, we really are doing better than a great many towns of comparable size. We have a former mayor who, when in office, put a lot of work into improving the appearance of the downtown area, and developing the local economy. That effort has really paid off for our town.
Sometimes Chris you should make a video of Munsing Indiana, Ball state is their in Munsing their is a bike path that rides through different towns around Munsing.
