I was stationed at Barbers Pt from Dec 1963 to 65. as a member of the Crash Fire and Rescue Crew. Off duty I lived in Barracks 46. As I was only 17 at the time I couldn't drive the crash trucks, so was given #23 a tanker semi to drive. Probably because I was the only one that could back it into the barn without running into something. In a run down the runway and with a tail wind I actually got the truck up to an amazing 24 mph. Now, some 50+ years later, I am writing a story about my 2 years there. If there is anybody out there that remembers those times or was there with me I would like to hear from them. There was one of my buddies that might remember when we climbed Diamond Head, saw the gun mount from WW11 at the very top, and then went down into the crater. When we got to the bottom, we were instantly picked up by the MP's and escorted in their jeep back to Honolulu with orders "Don't come back." We got the hint. So many memories that I must share in a story. If you can help with my endeavors, please feel free to contact me
SAR in the Hawaiian Islands is some of the most risky and dangerous of any of the 50 U.S. States. The North Shore of Oahu can sometimes have monster waves of over 50 ft and when hurricanes come from the eastern Pacific Ocean things can get very challenging very fast!
My cousin Ken flew coast guard for years. Living in Hiwai and Elizabeth city NC and resides in Elizabeth city NC now. Haven't seen him since I was 16. Would love to hear from him. 👍☺️
