Hi Gareth, I watched this a year after it was uploaded. I have had 3 operations during a 3 week stint in hospital. Your videos have kept my spirits up. I love the fact that you have such fond memories of your Dad. My father passed over almost 10 years ago. 3 days before my twin and I 50 birthday. He almost made it to see his sons turn 50. I too hold fond memories of him. Fishing on Cleveland pier when we were wiper snapers. Your videos are a brilliant watch. Thank you.

Ah thank you Dylan. I must admit that I almost didn't make this video but I'm glad I did it...what a sunrise and the wildlife that day was incredible. Yes the Congers were out there in big numbers and that's often the case at this time of the year on the Upper Channel. The foul-hooked Mullet at the end was quite funny, from a distance I thought it was a Bass but it was still a great sight. I completely understand that when your not feeling it, it's difficult to motivate yourself to get out of bed, especially when it's really early morning! But as you say, if you do make the effort the rewards of being out fishing next to nature is better than a pill. I've been having a few dark days, as I call them lately, but have managed to fight through them, and get out fishing. Watching this video, inspires me to keep going. Well done mate. Top video as usual Gareth, great memories for you, I was only thinking about my dad today and the times we had many moons ago also. I had to laugh around half way through the video, before you said you'd packed up the cheapy boat rod. I was actually talking to the telly, telling you to get back, pick up the rod and strike, I couldn't believe you couldn't hear the bell ringing. I looked out of the window and it was coming from next doors cat, it has a bell on its collar 😂😂😂

As always, another good watch Gareth. Always good to relax to with the beautiful scenery. What i like is that you, like me, enjoy being out fishing. Any fish are a bonus. These constant E/NE winds are killing the fishing all around the coast. Your Dad would have been laughing his head off with you head first in the rocks trying to retreive your conger. (It counted as it was on the beach😂). I was half expecting to see you disappearing down the crevice with the conger lol. Look forward to the next one.👍

Very nice session this time and all nice sized fish. Over in Norfolk we are getting a mixed bag with plenty of flatties. Gareth I also lost my dad in 2018 aged 89 years.

I'm new to your channel, thanks for the content, it's great. This video in particular hits home to me, as I lost my Dad a year ago, who was my (fly) fishing partner for most of my adult life - the memories are still strong, but like you I miss his company on the bank. Tight Lines x

Great video, really enjoy it,well made as always, interesting mullet that was nice size one , them big thick lips also big thin lips will take deads/ alive bait also lures they push the bait with there heads to break it up or use there tail to bash it that’s why there often hooked on side also I would say it was feeding on the bait when you hit it. Ah right yes, that would make sense...from a distance it looked like a Bass but then I realised it was a Mullet as I got closer. As you say, it was probably feasting on the Mackerel head! I might fish for them this year, even catching just one would be an achievement. I used to fish for them years ago and one fish every few sessions was about the average, great fun though. Great session Gareth. I reckon your dad had something to do with all the catches. It was lovely to see a couple of pics of your dad given the number of times you mention him. He looked like he might have been quite a character. I would have given you that first Conger as it was easy to identify. I know in some game fishing here, they count it as a catch if you touch the leader. Cheers.
Thank you David. Yes I enjoyed this session, seeing that sunrise early on gave me a good feeling, instantly lifted me and more positive vibes started to take over. No doubt Dad was present, although he was probably laughing at me early on when I was losing those Congers ha! Ah yes, he certainly was a character and a bit of a prankster too...I've got a million stories to tell! Lots of action during this one, Congers were on good form and the foul-hooked Mullet at the end, well that just made me laugh! Yeah I'm pretty sure that touching the leader also counts in other parts of the world too, sure I've seen it elsewhere. Hope all is well, have a good weekend 👍👍
About 20 years ago, this mark used to be my favourite Newport mark. Last year I checked it out down there and it seemed a lot more shallow than I remembered. It was, and still is, by the looks of it, a very productive mark on its day. Another top class watch Gareth. The sheer amount of wildlife down there can be staggering.

Yes it does seem to have changed over the years and also, to the left of where I was fishing, there are clumps of Cord Grass and this was never there years ago. Great spot though, probably not as productive as it once was but with it being next to the Usk mouth, anything can turn up and I'm quite looking forward to giving it another bash soon. Hi Gareth, I watched this a year after it was uploaded. I have had 3 operations during a 3 week stint in hospital. Your videos have kept my spirits up. I love the fact that you have such fond memories of your Dad. My father passed over almost 10 years ago. 3 days before my twin and I 50 birthday. He almost made it to see his sons turn 50. I too hold fond memories of him. Fishing on Cleveland pier when we were wiper snapers. Your videos are a brilliant watch. Thank you.

Ah thank you Dylan. I must admit that I almost didn't make this video but I'm glad I did it...what a sunrise and the wildlife that day was incredible. Yes the Congers were out there in big numbers and that's often the case at this time of the year on the Upper Channel. The foul-hooked Mullet at the end was quite funny, from a distance I thought it was a Bass but it was still a great sight. Well I have to say it what a great fishing channel / well being, I have now got the fishing bug back after 8 years due to depression. I hope you keep this channel going for many years to come. What you do has inspired me and my son. Be nice to bump into you one day in Newport.

I had to laugh around half way through the video, before you said you'd packed up the cheapy boat rod. I was actually talking to the telly, telling you to get back, pick up the rod and strike, I couldn't believe you couldn't hear the bell ringing. I looked out of the window and it was coming from next doors cat, it has a bell on its collar 😂😂😂

As always, another good watch Gareth. Always good to relax to with the beautiful scenery. What i like is that you, like me, enjoy being out fishing. Any fish are a bonus. These constant E/NE winds are killing the fishing all around the coast. Your Dad would have been laughing his head off with you head first in the rocks trying to retreive your conger. (It counted as it was on the beach😂). I was half expecting to see you disappearing down the crevice with the conger lol. Look forward to the next one.👍

Very nice session this time and all nice sized fish. Over in Norfolk we are getting a mixed bag with plenty of flatties. Gareth I also lost my dad in 2018 aged 89 years.

I'm new to your channel, thanks for the content, it's great. This video in particular hits home to me, as I lost my Dad a year ago, who was my (fly) fishing partner for most of my adult life - the memories are still strong, but like you I miss his company on the bank. Tight Lines x

Great video, really enjoy it,well made as always, interesting mullet that was nice size one , them big thick lips also big thin lips will take deads/ alive bait also lures they push the bait with there heads to break it up or use there tail to bash it that’s why there often hooked on side also I would say it was feeding on the bait when you hit it. They love mackerel.

Ah right yes, that would make sense...from a distance it looked like a Bass but then I realised it was a Mullet as I got closer. As you say, it was probably feasting on the Mackerel head! I might fish for them this year, even catching just one would be an achievement. I used to fish for them years ago and one fish every few sessions was about the average, great fun though. Great session Gareth. I reckon your dad had something to do with all the catches. It was lovely to see a couple of pics of your dad given the number of times you mention him. He looked like he might have been quite a character. I would have given you that first Conger as it was easy to identify. I know in some game fishing here, they count it as a catch if you touch the leader. Cheers.

About 20 years ago, this mark used to be my favourite Newport mark. Last year I checked it out down there and it seemed a lot more shallow than I remembered. It was, and still is, by the looks of it, a very productive mark on its day. Another top class watch Gareth. The sheer amount of wildlife down there can be staggering.

Yes it does seem to have changed over the years and also, to the left of where I was fishing, there are clumps of Cord Grass and this was never there years ago. Great spot though, probably not as productive as it once was but with it being next to the Usk mouth, anything can turn up and I'm quite looking forward to giving it another bash soon.
