Yep, there are so many people that settle in areas of similar people to them and try and make it into the country they came from .
Many don’t even learn the language ( not a problem in this families case of course being American)

This wonderful video triggered a happy smile and a memory of years ago. We were on a family holiday in rural Wales back in the day. The local milkman called at our holiday rental and in passing urged us not to miss the local agricultural show that was on that day. Of course we had to go. Our children were quite small back then and loved meeting the animals and learned a lot. There was a sheep sheering competition and (allegedly) one of the competitors was the local MP. He did quite well ( in my inexpert view). It strikes me that the current battle for PM would be cleaner, fairer and more informative based on sheep sheering. Thanks for jogging the memory.

Ooh, yeah, I never liked blue cheeses when I was a child - too strong and complex a flavour - but I love them now. On an open sandwich of good country bread, with pear, walnuts, watercress and a dressing. Or in a cheesy pasta sauce.
But the best is as part of a Christmas cheese board; it's not Christmas without a Stilton!

I've really enjoyed your visits to the county shows.
As part of observing some UK culture, have you ever visited a stately home? Museum quality contents in a domestic setting, walking through rooms full of history with a personal connexion to the owners. Lovely grounds and gardens attached. And usually a very nice cafe.😊
Fir example, Blenheim Palace, where Winston Churchill was born; or Chatsworth, and many more. Good luck.

What a fabulous day, and especially since you guys have more understanding of farming than most. We love our local country fair (Frampton-on-Severn) in Gloucestershire, coming up on Sunday 11 September this year. Seeing the livestock, chatting to the farmers. It's a proper traditional show, with loads of working dog events. Our favourite is the terrier racing at the end of the day. Boy, those doggies are fast! Some are at the finish before you can blink but also it's terriers racing in every direction, especially to the sausage tent. My fella won the elver-eating competition (elver = baby eels), the most you can eat in 1 minute.

My grandfather painted rides for and ran haulage vehicles for fairs and county shows in Kent up to the second world war.
The 'big wheels' as they were called then 'Ferris Wheels' were American, were a particular favourite of his along with the merry-go-rounds, for which he painted the top panels and sometimes the horses. .

You can see everything in those county fairs. There’s usually a home made cake tent - competition is fierce. And a beer tent with home made beers and wines, again, competitions.
Stilton - isn’t made in Stilton as it’s not in the right county any more. You’ll often see Stilton and Broccoli soup in the shops. There’s also one with no blue veins, but not so common.

There are two agricultural/food shows in Yorkshire that I can think of straight away, unfortunately one is The Great Yorkshire Show 12th to the 15th of July but it has sold out of tickets unfortunately, the other one is a much smaller affair and is the Wensleydale Show and that is at Layburn in North Yorkshire at the beginning of May and lasts three days.
The Great Yorkshire Show is on now but tickets have all gone, next year will see them back again and well worth visiting, the one in Layburn sells a lot of foods which are locally made and absolutely delicious, great video yet again, always a pleasure to see you and your family enjoying such wholesome activities, you never disappoint :)

The Royal Cornwall show is HUGE.
Spread over 3 days (early June),you see the very best of all livestock as they are transported from all parts of the country.
But really, events like the one in this video are commonplace throughout Britain.
In Cornwall in September,we have an event called Crantock Bale Push.
Where teams of four push these big bales of hay around the village, and on an upward climb, there’s always one who gets “rolled over”
It’s now gone international with teams from Belgium,Germany and Switzerland competing this year.
    It’s a great laugh.
So many others I could list.

I would have nominated the Monmouthshire Show, but they aren't running it this year.
Last I was there, the highlight was Meirion Owen and his Quack Pack (a squad of sheepdog-guided ducks, with audience participation). Though, there were also dynamic horse riding displays and competitions and the usual agricultural stuff.
