@@Proxyincognito Ledger Recover asks for the ability to export the keys, and you can say no. So your metaphor is flawed. They don't have the key and then ask for your permission to use it. If you say yes the device creates the 3 shards and encrypts them. If all this time you trusted the firmware to keep your key safe why don't you trust it with this additional feature? Now if you don't want to use a ledger because of the flawed way they rolled out this feature and poorly explained it or that their customer database was hacked (which was NOT protected with a ledger wallet) then those are perfectly acceptable reasons. But, if you are saying the security of the ledger which is fully audited and certified is lesser than some other wallet, you really need the technical proof rather than an "opinion". If you don't want to use a ledger, don't, I'm fine with that. But, we should be clear what is opinions vs fact about the security of a device.
Took my Nano S out of safe yesterday and screen dead. Luckily I could use phone to see dim screen. Moved all crypto off ledger. Now looking for new wallet. Was out of warranty. Ledger support said sorry to hear, give me a €20 voucher. Said I was in South Africa. Just didn’t reply.
What ledger need to do is have an independent firm come in an audit the company from top to bottom The ceo needs to be relegated to marketing decisions only and kept away from the engineering side It is clear the ceo is an arrogant French person who treated his customers with less respect than he should have This is the only way now for ledger to restore credibility, they cannot do it from within the company anymore
In videos describing wallets, its never mentioned that some work on desktop, some only on phones, some both, though these things arent mentioned much. I believe very important to how someone operates or what will work best for them. I bought Tangem cards but you can only use them on your phone. I needed one that does both or just desktop. Though cards have their place, too. Love to know about transfering to a new wallet, or having two wallets for same account, options on this subject is hard to find as well. How wallets can be utilized opens up options and removes possible mistakes along the way. Thanks for the info!
Didn't you say in previous videos that a HW wallet without a screen doesn't make sense? It doesn't matter how secure your 25-years warranty no-screen HW is if your phone is compromised.
Valid points! Although, I think I need to point out some caveats : The social engineering aspect (phishing & receiving a new cold wallet) can all be avoided with common sense! As for the Ledger Connect Kit compromise, neither the hardware wallet or Ledger Live was affected, which as far as I know is all you need to use your wallet. Obviously Ledger screwing up so many times in such a small timeframe is not good, but remember that literally anything can be exploited nowdays. Hardware supply chain attack can still happen to any wallet! I think we dont need to be that paranoid, crypto is digital and thus there will always be a risk of it being compromised. My opinion on this is that Ledger is becoming safer security wise. Usually, whenever a company gets breached, its like a wakeup call. They invest much more money into the security side! End of day it will take a lot of things to go extremely wrong for everyone to lose their crytpo (everyone that uses ledger) and if that happens, it could have had happened on any other wallet. But hey, thats just my opinion, thank you for the video!
Are you ever worried that you don't have your seed phrase using the tangenm wallet? I know they have the option to use a seed phrase as well, but just curious on your thoughts.
I transferred all my coins from Ledger to Trezor and Tangem. only one left is ICP because no hardware wallet is supporting ICP yet but I heard Tangem will support ICP by this year, when that happens my Ledger will go to the trashbin.
I have the Ledger Nano S, which is rock solid. There is no Recovery Element option available, so it's still the old school secured version. The newer ones are vulnerable for hacking...?
Sounds like the Nano S is not supported or won't be supported soon. My mates screen failed and have brought a few of Ali Express to fix it so then he can access his funds to then smash the Nano S into little pieces
Thanks a lot for this video. Could you please tell me if for example I would get my crypto on Nano X (I just received it it’s sitting on my desk still unboxed)and Tangem wallet at the same time will my crypto still be on Tangem wallet if it would got stolen from Nano X?
If you are using the same seed phrase on both wallets, and something happens on either wallet, like you fall victim to a phishing scam and your crypto was stolen, it’d be gone on both wallets. Crypto isn’t stored on the cold wallet. The device stores your private key. So if your key is compromised, your crypto is gone.
If your ledger device is not connected to the ledger app/website, can you be hacked? Also, can you check the your assets on ledger app without connecting your ledger device?
I’m not saying there are any inherent risks connecting to Ledger Live. You can be hacked if you connect any wallet to a malicious website and sign a malicious transaction though.

@@801oap Ledger Recover is not a threat on any Ledger device. It’s an optional subscription based service. I talk about it more in this updated video: The Truth About Ledger Wallets: Separating FACTS from FUD ua-cam.com/video/gQB0by9NDh8/v-deo.html
You seem to be very knowledgeable; what do you think is the best, as far as security-basis, HW on the market? Interested in everyone’s thoughts (based on facts and track record)
It’s hard to say because best is subjective. I look for two things: security and usability. Most wallets on the market have many of the same security features. There will be minor differences like the type of secure element used, but largely they’re all similar. So then I look at usability. I’d argue that the more user friendly a wallet is, the more secure it can be since you’re less likely to make costly mistakes. That said, I’d either go with Tangem or Ledger. * This is an old video. Over the past year I’ve done a lot of research and have spoke with ledger personally. There’s no backdoor. And I use the Ledger Flex as one of my main wallets. If you want the most user friendly wallet, go with Tangem. Nice. I just ordered an RPM tangem to replace my ledger. I'm 40 yrs late to getting into a little teck and many out there are the same so it must be safe, and simple..If we want full adoption of crypto these things must be easy to use and safe for the earlier gen folks.
Why would anyone give Ledger recovery access, surely as long as you don't lose your seed phrase your crypto will always belong to you, as far as I am aware you can purchase another Ledger or any other cold wallet and input your seed phrase and you have access to your keys again.
I thing Ledger is expensive trash. I know the risk is not that high to lose all of your assets but I still don’t want to take that risk for 150$?!?! I better buy a Tangem for 50$ that is safe as hell.
Hi, I'm hesitating between Ledger and Tangem, and I want to take Tangem because I'm more comfortable with my phone. But the problem with Tangem is that you cannot associate another wallet like metamask or other cold wallet, to diversify your assets, whereas Ledger does it. If you have any information to share with me, I'll stay tuned.
Ledger works with your phone too. Both are solid options. If you travel a lot or are out of the house a lot, I recommend Tangem. If you’re more of a homebody, go with Ledger. If you’re looking to diversify your crypto, don’t do it in a hot wallet, just get a couple cold wallets (ledger and Tangem)

So you buy a safer wallet and the connect to metamask hahaha, that is the most stupid thing ever. Why metamask dude, why? There are others that will NOT give away/sell your data...
People will still use Ledger just like how people will still use MetaMask. The ones that really know their stuff would have moved on to Rabby and Tangem.

Yes. Tangem has a recovery phrase now. Also, the app is open source so anyone can download it from GitHub (if it doesn’t exist on the App Store for example) Furthermore, if it were deleted from the App Store but you still have the app on your phone, you can still use it.
I have a ledger I bought in 2020 that i've never opened/used. I've been watching your tangem videos and just picked up the tangem wallets. I like the idea of having crypto stored on one wallet then move it out to a 2nd wallet when needed so i don't risk all of my crpyto at once. I'm not sure if i should stick with the ledger I do have however. And if I did then I would have to setup the tangem with the keyphrase right?
You could use the Ledger as your transaction (burner wallet) and your Tangem as your main cold storage wallet. And yes, I recommend using the seed phrase option.
@@cyberscrillaalso when i do this i need to setup the seed phrase on the ledger first right since it is 24 words instead of 12 like the tangem creates?
This is the users choice and it must be approved by the user. The firmware can’t automatically extract your key. And this can be proven because the code for this function is open source. okayyyyy. but tangem doesn't support monero so yea still gotta use ledger or trezor for the ultimate in coin support and ledger required to the absolute maximum coin support, unless you only use bitcoin and eth you're kinda stuck with either of the two titans of hardware wallets
Depends.. If you use the seed phrase option and you lost all your cards for example, nothing would happen, you can import your seed phrase into a new wallet to recover your crypto. If you use it seedless and you lose ALL your cards, you lose your crypto. Tangem recommends transferring your crypto to a new wallet if you lose any of your cards for this reason. BUT. That’s why i recommend using it with a seed phrase. Same as any wallet
Ledger is shooting themselves in the foot, I love Ledger devices and the ecosystem but why not give us the choice of a firmware without Recover, like Trezor does for BTC only firmware, this would be easier than a separate purchasable Recover enabled device.
The reason I didn't prefer tangem is because I don't want my seed phrase to ever be entered into a computer or phone or be shown on computer or phone screens at any time even during set up. I would consider using them for the no seed phrase thing though.
I use Tangem on my every day phone without issues, and so do a majority of users. 1.7 million wallets sold over the past 7 years and not a single one has been hacked.
Whats your favorite, when you do not want use you phone for transfers? What is best hardware wallet in your opinion when you do that transfers via laptop?
Never was I use a cold storage air gapped ellipal cold wallet as soon as my crypto hits coinbase I transfer the longest I've ever held crypto on coinbase 24 hours
What bothers me is that it’s closed sourced. Ledgers looks very practical to use and the format is great but you have to just trust them while knowing that there is a way to extract your seed.
You’re talking about something else. Ledger Recover is a subscription service that extracts your private key and sends it to 3 separate entities for storage. Also if you’re subpoenaed, they would give it to the government. Tangem DOES NOT have that service or access to your private key. Yes, Tangem has a seed phrase you can recover your wallet with (like most wallets), but Ledger is the only company with a subscription based backdoor service MASSIVE difference

That’s not how it works. Ledger Recover is optional. They don’t force you to use it. In fact, you have to pay to use it and approve it via your wallet like any transaction
That’s now how it works. The same could be said for literally any wallet on the market. Ledger is 95% open source, if there was something sketchy going on we’d know.
Idk. I just choose to not use Ledger products altogether. With so many options on the market, I think it’s worth trying something else like Onekey or Tangem.

I dont want to have diffrent wallets and memorising more than one seed phrase. Could i use the wallet i set up on trezor and type in that seed phrase into a ledger and have access to all the coins they can secure as they can do so with all the ones i have. It wouldnt wipe the keys or anything would it
Yes you can use the same seed phrase in multiple wallets. And correct, the crypto would still be in your wallet but it wouldn’t be displayed if the wallet you use doesn’t support it
@cyberscrilla appreciate for the reply. So would you say ledger would be OK just for using for storing your keys and using a hidden pass phrase what I will do on trezor so the seedphrase and pass phrase was not done using their site. The reason I say this is because of the controversy that came about a little while back that they may have access to your generated seedphrases ect. Correct me if I'm wrong or please add additional information be much appreciated. I don't want to lose my money. If you got any other recommendations of wallets that can store those crypto and render, fetch, gala and hbar that's open source that would be great too. 👍
@cyberscrilla I've got the one key touch and trezor 3 but they're lacking them coins what I've got, it only seems that the ledger has them all. Did you say you can use your seedphrase across multiple hw wallet brands and put the keys to the crypto on it that the other hw wallets don't have and they will be in your crypto wallet but only accessible when using the wallet that supports those coins if that makes sense? So I could get the ledger put icp arweave on there then put it back on to the trezor and say when the time comes to sell I could just go on the ledger sell them and then go back to using the trezor? Or even create a passphrase wallet just for those ones on the ledger. Sorry for the questions I just want to fully understand the concept of the actual wallet/seedphrase Ps another thing is I just watched a tutorial and the ledger seems to only offer a 24 seed phrase if I imported a 12 word seed phrase would that affect it or limited what I could do in anyway?

KYC is for the recover service. Don't use it.
What's the back door?
@@pilotboba The hardware has firmware designed to extract your passphrase. You don't give me the key to your house on the promise that i wont enter without your permission.
Even assuming ledger's protocol is totally cool and trustworthy, they increase 3rd party risk. Which is exactly what's supposed to make a hardware wallet better than an exchange.
@@pilotboba just keeping on an exchange with 2FA is good enough?
Took my Nano S out of safe yesterday and screen dead. Luckily I could use phone to see dim screen. Moved all crypto off ledger. Now looking for new wallet. Was out of warranty. Ledger support said sorry to hear, give me a €20 voucher. Said I was in South Africa. Just didn’t reply.
Your Crypto was never on the Ledger , please study first .
What ledger need to do is have an independent firm come in an audit the company from top to bottom
The ceo needs to be relegated to marketing decisions only and kept away from the engineering side
It is clear the ceo is an arrogant French person who treated his customers with less respect than he should have
This is the only way now for ledger to restore credibility, they cannot do it from within the company anymore
“French person”😂
I didn’t say that. It’s a concern with some people. But as of now, over 1 million wallets sold and not a single one has been compromised.
@@cyberscrillayou’re referring to ledger? no ledger has ever been compromised??
I’m talking about Tangem
Valid points!
Although, I think I need to point out some caveats :
The social engineering aspect (phishing & receiving a new cold wallet) can all be avoided with common sense!
My view: there are better options, why not use them?
Are you ever worried that you don't have your seed phrase using the tangenm wallet? I know they have the option to use a seed phrase as well, but just curious on your thoughts.
I only use the seed phrase option and I don’t recommend not using it.
I've had a Ledger Nano S for over 6 years with no problems of any kind! Glad I bought it. I'm not gonna get an X though.....
I transferred all my coins from Ledger to Trezor and Tangem.
only one left is ICP because no hardware wallet is supporting ICP yet but I heard Tangem will support ICP by this year, when that happens my Ledger will go to the trashbin.
Love to hear it!
Trezor can be open and hacked .
I have the Ledger Nano S, which is rock solid. There is no Recovery Element option available, so it's still the old school secured version. The newer ones are vulnerable for hacking...?
same here 💪💪
Sounds like the Nano S is not supported or won't be supported soon.
@@cyberscrilla thanks for this comment dude
Original ledger Nano S doesn't contain enough memory to store the recovery function.
If your ledger device is not connected to the ledger app/website, can you be hacked? Also, can you check the your assets on ledger app without connecting your ledger device?
I’m not saying there are any inherent risks connecting to Ledger Live.

It uses walletconnect to connect to a ton of dapps.
I don’t think it’s compatible with any hot wallets though.

Nice. I just ordered an RPM tangem to replace my ledger. I'm 40 yrs late to getting into a little teck and many out there are the same so it must be safe, and simple..If we want full adoption of crypto these things must be easy to use and safe for the earlier gen folks.
Nice! And I agree with you. That’s why I believe Tangem is ahead of the game with their wallet.
@cyberscrilla i hope so, will soon find out. I ordered a custom one as they are a little fancier on the cover.
Let me know how you like it!
@cyberscrilla will do👍 just ordered it a day ago, hope it doesnt take long to arrive. Im really hoping it'll take more of the mineable coins.
Why would anyone give Ledger recovery access, surely as long as you don't lose your seed phrase your crypto will always belong to you, as far as I am aware you can purchase another Ledger or any other cold wallet and input your seed phrase and you have access to your keys again.
Because people lose their seed phrase. But to your point, I’d NEVER sign up for Ledger Recover
I thing Ledger is expensive trash. I know the risk is not that high to lose all of your assets but I still don’t want to take that risk for 150$?!?! I better buy a Tangem for 50$ that is safe as hell.
Good point.

And yes, I recommend using the seed phrase option.
ok will do that until i grab another wallet thanks!@@cyberscrilla
@@cyberscrillaalso when i do this i need to setup the seed phrase on the ledger first right since it is 24 words instead of 12 like the tangem creates?
Do you have to agree to the terms of doing the ledger, restore, giving the consent to your past phrase and having to do proof of identity?
Nope
The most important fact is: ledger firmware has the capability to extract the private keys from the wallet!
This is the users choice and it must be approved by the user. The firmware can’t automatically extract your key.
And this can be proven because the code for this function is open source.

what happens if you lose your tandem wallet?
Agreed. If I remember correctly, they basically said it’d be more work to create separate firmwares
The reason I didn't prefer tangem is because I don't want my seed phrase to ever be entered into a computer or phone or be shown on computer or phone screens at any time even during set up. I would consider using them for the no seed phrase thing though.
Fair enough.
How about a separate phone solely for tangem ?

What bothers me is that it’s closed sourced. Ledgers looks very practical to use and the format is great but you have to just trust them while knowing that there is a way to extract your seed.
Yeah, it’s scary.. especially considering the other breaches
but tangem also has recovery seed function so i don't understand why it would be different from ledger??
You’re talking about something else.
Ledger Recover is a subscription service that extracts your private key and sends it to 3 separate entities for storage.
Also if you’re subpoenaed, they would give it to the government.
Tangem DOES NOT have that service or access to your private key.
Yes, Tangem has a seed phrase you can recover your wallet with (like most wallets), but Ledger is the only company with a subscription based backdoor service
MASSIVE difference

And say for example i put all the coins i have that trezor can support then move that wallet over to a ledger then put icp and arweave on it and dot, then put it back on a trezor wallet what would happen would they show up or will they only be visible whilst using a ledger wallet?
Sorry for the questions I just want to fully understand the concept of the actual wallet/seedphrase
Ps another thing is I just watched a tutorial and the ledger seems to only offer a 24 seed phrase if I imported a 12 word seed phrase would that affect it or limited what I could do in anyway?

Sure. It’s just a matter of whether you trust Ledger or not, especially when there are better options on the market.
Ledger is completely safe, what i worrying people is their recovery service which in itself is optional. Just use your ledger to store your crypto, do not subscribe to their optional recovery service and keep your passphrase safe. You will be fine.
@@DepecheModeDM Because they lied.
@@UnclePhillyMyAss i do not think they lied, they are not really forcing people into subscribing to that service.
@@DepecheModeDM It doesnt matter. They stated they didnt have access to your keys. Then it turns out they do. They also admitted theyd have them to hand over if ever dealt a subpoena. Theyre liars. Why risk your savings? ( I say this AS a ledger owner for many years) There will be nothing but I told you so...
I got dusted by a phishing scamer on my ledger . I will no longer use ledger.
All wallets are susceptible to phishing scams. That is a user error, not a wallet error.
Wondered how that happened. Thanks

Thanks!
My first and last time I will
Buy ledger never again! Too espensive!
There are much better options on the market that are more affordable.
@@cyberscrilla I’ve been following you for days now! I like your channel! Great contest and work I’m considering Tangem now I think is the future
BitBox here. Cant beat it.
Awesome! I’m reviewing BitBox soon! What do you like most about it?
I've never needed to upload identification
For what?
Tangem is my favorite.
Very bad support I subscribed to recover and they sent me a used key. And no support for a new key or for a refund. Ripped off
I’m not sure what you mean? Recover is a service that holds your private key for you. So if you lose it, they can recover your wallet for your.
They don’t create new keys for you. You do that yourself when you setup a wallet.
Paid service? To open breach?
I don't like that this infrastructure pathway exist. It's troubling. I can't shake that off. I love their products because they are fairly easy to use. I've never had an issue with any, but now I live with another level of paranoia.
Makes me kind of angry.
It's sold as a impenetrable Safe storage but it looks like it's no better than a simple USB stick that can compute...
They give the Game a bad name.
Now what? I need to buy the next best fncking thing?
What's the best way to safe my fncking retirement?
The consensus is “just don’t sign up for the service and you have anything to worry about”
My thought is: why trust Ledger when they haven’t been clear about their product’s functionality?
Plus, the two breaches.
There are always other options.
Its fraud is what I believe
Same happens to me i cant trust any more ledger since they have a lot of data breach
It’s unfortunate…
They should have made that in to a different product.
Right? It could have been approached much better…
So whats the BEST 1??
Depends on your preferences. I like Tangem. Also, this video is older, Ledger devices are very secure.
