    At 18:34 fuel consumption of 4.6 to 5.9 litres per 100km is much better than the real world fuel consumption of a petrol engine with similar power. The ability to commute to work, recharge and commute home, then drive anywhere at weekends in hybrid mode will be suitable for many people. For any given battery production capacity, Opel and Peugeot can sell more Hybrid 4 cars than BEVs. This suggests that the petrol car without a plug is obsolete and the choice going forward for new car buyers will be whether PHEV or BEV suits them better.

    I own a Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV and I love it. I do charge every night and make full use of the electric range for my daily commute. I think this is a great car if your looking for space and Economy. Sadly though I think it’s priced about €8k too high.

    Oh, wasn’t the Opel Ampera / Chevrolet Volt the first PHEV? Well, in a PHEV, the combustion engine is the main driver. In a REX car, the motor is just there for situations when the battery is depleted - as range extender, Opel also called this Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV). The Ampera did drive all-electric until the battery was depleted and then changed to the combustion engine. If you solely look at “where can I put in a cable”, you can call both Ampera and Grandland X PHEV. So at the end of the day, it is a question of definition. In a narrower sense, the Grandland X Hybrid4 is the first PHEV which works with the common PHEV system where the petrol engine is the main component. Opel themselves say it is their first PHEV as they understood the Ampera as EREV / electric vehicle with range extender (REX).

    Thanks! Great review and much appreciated info. I hope Opel will put this system into more sportier options/cars.

    I don’t know why but it reminds me a little bit of a Citroen C4 Picasso.

    Thank you for the video, I've been a vauxhall/Opel fan for my 16 years of car ownership this new one definitely gets consideration although the Corsa E is on my list too. I'd love to see a full test that absolutely tested the maximum range between Petro and electric to see what it is really like to live with. My diesel Astra does 60mpg in real world driving over 600 miles. Can the Grandland X hybrid?

    Thank you for a good review. Sorry, I do not get the point! 1) You average around 5,9l/100km on your longer trip which is not good 2) it cost over €50k which is a lot 3) it is very heavy (300 kilos more than my new Peugeot 5008 diesel to compare) 4) the car has an inefficient petrol engine 1,6 turbo which is by the way used to heat the battery and cabine in cold weather. I average 4,0l/100km in a new BlueHDi 1,5 diesel from Peugeot with no particals (99,9%) due to add blue and low CO2 + 300 kg less in weight. So why buy this???

      Thanks! I understand. Average on twisty mountain roads, for that its quite good. Best use case however is commuting during the week all eletric.

      Autogefuel - yes, if the car allow you to. I tested a KIA Optima PHEV and in 12km and 5C degrees it used the 2,0l petrol engine to warm up its batteries and cabine which averaged to 5,5l/100km. Disappointing when the car is advertised to 2,8l/100km... But maybe that is different for this car?

      yeah it depends on the phev and heat pump system, there are better and worse ones

    Nice with an Aisin automatic transmission that should be more reliable than any DSG. However the Toyota and Honda hybrids are better as they don't use a traditional transmission at all. Still for the price you would be a fool not to get a Tesla, Hyundai or Kia pure electric instead.

      CVT transmission are sooo boring, and most suited to people who drive slow and gentle, ie. Boring😴😴😴😅 same goes for Electric cars, suits people who have no passion whatsoever, for cars, they only buy them because they are cheap, and tax free.

    It’s been a decade since Vauxhall’s went downhill and they still are at the bottom of the hill.

    Question 1: why are you carrying that battery?
    Question 2: why are you carrying that engine?
    => FAIL
