Hi Ryan......i haven t been carving for longtime....however i m thinking aloud ....if your slab was a tapered ....lets say 5 inch thick to 2 inches thick ..... would that give a person more opportunity for a leaning hat effect ? ... ...again only asking ......!!!! ..... m a newbie .....!!! by the way ......WOW on this wizard....hell i would think you are the wizard here ....!!!! BRAVO....!!!!

You did the hat joinery wrong, the correct way of making the hat fit the head is to cut the top of the head off .So that when you place the brim of the hat it looks as though he's wearing the hat. There was no reason for your method as that makes the brim susceptible to breakage later on.

I didn't see a video on why you keep your chain so loose. Just wondering if you had a vid on it or if you care to explain why you keep them loose. Steve from Port Alberni. Cheers

I run mine a little looser then most. But the reason I do is because they are carving bars and don’t have a sprocket. So with a tight chain and just metal on metal. It will blow the tip of the bar. If the chain is loose allows slack and can’t very easily flow threw the tip.
Also I use it looser then most for being able to move the bar more freely. So if I was to carve an. S. THE chain would be loose enough to drag behind the cut allowing me to cut at a sharper angle. And not blow out the chain or wear out rails.
Yes the downfall is that with it loose the bar can wear slightly faster on the Bolton of the bar. Because of the slack and when the slack catches up .. it can create a divot. But for me to have the chain that loose I find it worth the life of the bar over the lack of being able to bend the bar and carve an S
      Hope that explains it
