After seeing many people react and comment on this song, the #1 response is "it's too short." They even brought it up in a vlog saying they tried to make it longer but nothing they did sounded right. Their suggestion was "play it twice". 😅😅 that works for me.
When performing with both arms, both legs, singing lead, singing background, triggering all the electronics through your lap top and holding down the pocket just doesn’t seem like enough, what do you do? You mouth the lyrics while your sister sings, of course. That’s just how this 5’ stick of dynamite rolls!
A lot of people miss what all she does. Also, the fact that she's only 5' blows my mind. She's probably the tiniest drummer I've ever seen live, and she puts out so much freaking sound.
So in 2020 TW signed with Lava records. Following that there was a virtual concert known as (De)Tour that was put on to raise money for small independent venues shut down by the pandemic. Lzzy Hale, Slash and Ringo Starr headlined. Lava participated and TW was invited to submit a recorded performance. They submitted a performance of Dull knives done in their home basement studio known as the Warning Cave. Jason Flom, head of Lava, introduced them. This performance was so good that Lzzy Hale said she wanted to go on tour with TW. This performance was the only one in the concert played twice. The Warning Army dominated the comments. Two years later they were on tour with Halestorm. Lzzy Hale has said that when she hears TW play, she tells her band that they need to practice more!
In the studio version, there's a seconce voice, kind of whispering the lyrics while Dany is singing them, I think that's what Pau is doing on this performance Thank you guys for sharing your journey through this album !!
Pau mouthing the words along with Dany has come in handy on a few occasions when Dany’s mic goes out or she forgets the words and Pau immediately jumps in with the vocals. On one occasion, before Dany had spare picks mounted on the mic stand, she dropped her pic which Pau noticed and took over the vocals so Dany could pick it back up. 😎👍
In their vlog talking about this song, acknowledge that it is a short song. They tried everything they could think of - a bridge and chorus again, a Dany solo, and other ideas but "the song was just begging us to leave it alone. So, if you think it's too short just listen to it again!"
Pau does often mouth the words to songs for Dany's parts but in this case she's doing a whispering backing voice for the verses. It's pretty low in the mix, much more noticeable in the studio version, and in the live in The Warning Cave for De(Tour) version as well.
I love this series! When they presented the song to their inner group everyone loved it, and everyone told them to go back and make it longer. The ladies tried a bunch of things and decided that nothing improved it so they left it alone. Dull Knives has remained a constant part of their playlist and a fan favorite. If you want to see what is going on in detail, try the version from their cave. That is what made Lizzy Hale decide that she was going to invite them to tour with Halestorm
Pau is doing the whispering voice, likely, although sometimes she just mouths lyrics to songs Dany is singing (Dany does same sometimes when Pau is singing).
"Dull Knives" from the Warning Cave is the best imo!! Great vocals (as usual), great performance, and attitude!! Btw, Pau often mouths the words to keep in sync with Dany
Nice reaction, guys! I love when they mix some punk elements into their songs! Did you check PSYCHOTIC? One of the next coming songs of this show! Pure punk, subgenre „cheerleader punk“… you will notice why the fans call it so… 😉 Just saw them 2 weeks ago in London/UK, still blown away by their sound, voices and energy! thanks, greetings from Germany 👍⚡️🤘
Thanks guys , early in the song Dull knives Pau was miming the words , which she does quite alot anyway , as for the song being short , the girls tried to make it longer but couldn't make it work so they left it as it was , three minutes of great rock music .
They did put together live audios of this concert and Foro DiDi for Patreon subscribers at the time. They could probably now offer them for sale and they would undoubtedly get takers. I have both sets myself and they are excellent car music. 👍
The bass is awsome in this song , I had to go listen again after this vid and then came back to watch this vid again ..I can't wait till you get to the END , Ale is so great with her bas and backing vocals , they have the camera on her a goo bit. Every day I have a new favorite sister lol, today its Ale , yesterday it was Dany. Im sure ill be back to Pau very soon.
You should see their volg about this album. They talk about the writing process of each song and meanings. It's broke up into chapters because they were originally released a chapter at a time.
It came up in a live chat awhile back how Pau likes to sing along and some times get carried away. They said their sound man has to mute her mic at times.
Hey, guys! I should note I have loved watching you explore this album; and I love your approach to doing "reaction videos". I've also been exploring your own music, and definitely like what I hear... sadly, you're about 2500 miles away from "my favorite watering holes", but if you come out West sometime, let us know! Pau "mouths" the lyrics often, because she wrote and developed most of them. Especially this album, which is mostly "her baby". She also "mouths" her drum hits that happen at specific moments, which is particularly funny. She "says" _pow_ ... 😋
At 12:05 they're shifting between triplets and straight-4. Ale plays BOM BOM BOM (3 over 2) > BOMMMMM (Half Note). Paul BOM BOM BOM (3 over 2) > FILLLLL lasting two beats > INSANE polyrhythmic mindblowing shizzle > END.
Listen carefully you'll hear a "Whisper Track" that's what Pau is "Singing"... it's really evident in the studio version but your can hear it in the live performances.
Thanks, Chris and Sam. In my opinion, this short piece is simple and uses resources known in rock music (on a not so common scale), but it is excellently developed, with good lyrics and unmatched emotion, which makes it irresistible and worthy of the greatest attention. The version in The Cave (De-tour) is even better.
I love QotMS and I have it on both CD and vinyl but I think I prefer this live concert. I even recorded it to cassette tape and listened to it in my car
I've been waiting for you guys to get to this one! One of my favorites of all time. I think it's already been mentioned but yes, when you see Pau mouthing the lyrics she's usually providing a whisper vocal. On one memorable occasion a technical issue made her whispering very loud and distorted during QOTMS and it was super creepy! Also, the girls have said when asked about how short this song is that they tried to make it longer and nothing sounded good, it always lessened the song so they left it short. Thanks for another great video! Loved it!
TWA loves when new (to us) reactors (especially musicians) check out “our” favorite trio of sisters. There’s something exciting when others start discovering and enjoying something we’ve already found and we get to re-live our own discovery through you guys. Love your reactions because of your format and it shows to us that you truly have interest in the band for the right reasons. Keep up the good work and I’ve already subbed and checked out your catalog. Take care.
Guys it been a while ( I'm old now) ..your best shot for some gigs is the Keys. I have some connections let me check... BTW Love the Queen reviews, as I have only gone through the new album and I feel I'm now going through this one with you guys...Beers on me if you ever getin gig in Miami. Thanks
I don't know in detail but to my knowledge Pau often is/was lip syncing without really singing. What I read is that this should help a transition to Pau singing in case Dany has any problems.
There are a couple songs that Pau, the drummer, does the lead vocals..... as soon as Dani hit the raspier belt, you knew it was her. Pau was providing back vocals (very common). Pau is very good vocalist and with her personality she could be a front person, however, Dani just has that bad ass rocker vibe in spades.
If you listen to the studio version there is backing vocals whispering the words. I believe this is what Pau is doing; not mouthing the words but whispering them. Hard to hear it in the live mix.
hey guys, not going to bother you with too much. TW tried to make the song longer, but in the end they decided: "It's perfect. If you liked it and want more, just put the song on repeat" - This is the song (the cave version from the De-tour show under covid- 19) that got Lzzi Hale from Halestorm to say "I want these 3 sister to open up for us" and during the tour, she gave a guitar to Dany, as the young artist she once was and got the same gift from someone believing in her. Dany has promised to do the same.
La mayoría de las veces canta Daniela, pero a Pau le gusta cantar así no lo haga como principal lo hace naturalmente de allí que se vea gesticular como si estuviera cantando ella.
True gents, there are places you can call, people you can talk to, UNLESS, one just committed a homocide. In that case, you're going to prison. This story isn't just about depression, but an unspeakable guilt of one who is on the brink absolute insanity.
Pau and Dany sound similar as sisters but they are different enough that there really is no doubt which one is singing. I don't understand your confusion.
They tried really hard to make this song longer, extra verse, another chorus even some solo's but nothing worked, it all sounded terrible so as Dany said why fix something that is not broken, that is why the song is so short. They also said if you think it is too short then you can simply play it again.
I disagree about Pau and Dany sounding the same. Pau will often mouth the lyrics as Dany is singing. Pau has more timber in her voice. Just a tad more deep. Dany is the one who hits the high notes.
5:00 Ironic thing for me is I don't really like live albums. Kiss Alive is terrible. Metallica live is awful. There are only a few that I enjoy. Bob Seger Live Bullet. Cheap Trick at Budokon. The Runaways Live in Japan. UFO Strangers in the Night. There might be another which I am forgetting at this point. My favorite live album, and I did indeed download the Foro Didi concert and edited it into the acutal track listing in the album, is The Warning Live at Foro Didi (plus Crimson Queen live at Lunario). You'll find Crimson Queen at Foro Didi has a technical issue with a guitar. I used to love the acapella sense to the performance more than at Lunario, but have since changed my mind.
8:12 No, Pau is not singing. Their voices are actually very different, despite you guys claiming overwise. It's not too difficult to tell the difference once you've listen to this album thousands of times. I might be under-exaggerating as I have listened to the Foro Didi concert probably more than that. At that concert it's easier to make out who is singing because they put the camera on the vocalist more often than not.
9:30 "Slowly increasing the pain" is actually not the lyric here. It's supposed to be "Slowly inflicting the pain" and on the second run through the chorus, it's "increasing." No one mentions this anywhere. Except for me. Edit: That kinda does tell you how many times I have listened to the Foro Didi concert because everytime I hear this concert I notice the accidental lyric mistake.
"Dull Knives" in The Warning Cave is this song's gold standard IMO. Check it out when you get a chance!
After seeing many people react and comment on this song, the #1 response is "it's too short." They even brought it up in a vlog saying they tried to make it longer but nothing they did sounded right. Their suggestion was "play it twice". 😅😅 that works for me.

You mouth the lyrics while your sister sings, of course. That’s just how this 5’ stick of dynamite rolls!
She also always knows where the cameras are.
Pretty sure she's the de facto finance manager for the band as well.
A lot of people miss what all she does. Also, the fact that she's only 5' blows my mind. She's probably the tiniest drummer I've ever seen live, and she puts out so much freaking sound.
Pau could power the entire planet with her energy!@@sebrina8057

The Mona Lisa of rock songs!
Pau mouthing the words along with Dany has come in handy on a few occasions when Dany’s mic goes out or she forgets the words and Pau immediately jumps in with the vocals. Pay whispers along with the lyrics. You can hear it more clearly in the audio version.

Ale's bass line is so deep and groovy you can surf on it.
Tres minutos del mejor Rock ,Dull Knives , TW y su excelente rock duro
I love this series!
When they presented the song to their inner group everyone loved it, and everyone told them to go back and make it longer.

It speaks a lot to their maturity that they resisted the temptation to add anything.
@@robertkrawitz8237
But they were very very close to making it perfect!!
😢😢
The girls said: If this song is to short, play it twice!
Pau is doing the whispering voice, likely, although sometimes she just mouths lyrics to songs Dany is singing (Dany does same sometimes when Pau is singing).
But in the original track if you pay close attention Pau is actually whispering behind Dany’s
Ale started Bass at 6 or 7 years old.
"Dull Knives" from the Warning Cave is the best imo!! Great vocals (as usual), great performance, and attitude!! Btw, Pau often mouths the words to keep in sync with Dany
Pau is extremely animated, especially in this performance. And we get the first good look at the Pau Death Stare!
Double kick
Nice reaction, guys! I love when they mix some punk elements into their songs! Did you check PSYCHOTIC? One of the next coming songs of this show! Pure punk, subgenre „cheerleader punk“… you will notice why the fans call it so… 😉 Just saw them 2 weeks ago in London/UK, still blown away by their sound, voices and energy! thanks, greetings from Germany 👍⚡️🤘
No effect. Pau uses the double kick often, mostly for short accents in fills. In the live Cave for De(Tour) recording you can see it a bit better 🤘
The Masterpiece! ⚡⚡⚡
Thanks guys , early in the song Dull knives Pau was miming the words , which she does quite alot anyway , as for the song being short , the girls tried to make it longer but couldn't make it work so they left it as it was , three minutes of great rock music .

Dull Knives is still one of my favorite songs from The Warning.
The bass is awsome in this song , I had to go listen again after this vid and then came back to watch this vid again ..I can't wait till you get to the END ,

3 minutes of pure rock

🤘🔥⚡ love this song! I'm enjoying your new music as well. Keep up the good work - it's appreciated!
When Ale got her Bass she had only a month's worth of being taught when she started playing with her sisters.
They only need 3-minutes to knock your socks off!!
🤘😎❤️⚠️
🙋⚡⚡⚡🔥🔥🔥
On the album QOMS, there is a loud whisper of the lyrics, which I think is what Pau is doing while Dany is lead vocals
Pretty sure this is the song Lzzy Hale heard/saw TW perform that hooked her to them.🤘🏼❤️🔥🤘🏼
👍🏼

Check out the Aug. 29th show from Mexico City- Metropolitan Theater. Killer show.
Pay whispers along with the lyrics. You can hear it more clearly in the audio version.
Best hard rock band in a long time. Ale could lead this one.
La mayoría de las veces canta Daniela, pero a Pau le gusta cantar así no lo haga como principal lo hace naturalmente de allí que se vea gesticular como si estuviera cantando ella.
People look at me funny when I tell them "I found out dull knives cut better"
"I'm plucking roses but keeping the thorns" - You don't hear lyrics like that very often--especially from a 16yr old.
Since your doing one song at a time, I suggest adding Chapters & song numbers to your titles, so it's easy to watch in proper order later on. ⚡
So, you'd open for The Warning? 🙂🤘
they also have video performance of this song in their homebase (The Warning Cave)
i love that video better than this one
Están mucho mejor las presentaciones en vivo en el Teatro Metropolitan de la Ciudad de México, les falta reaccionar a esos videos.
Bro Pau and Dany does not sound the same , Pau is higher register and more raspy
They all mouth the lyrics at times when they're not actually singing. I don't let it ruin my enjoyment trying to figure it out.
They tried really hard to make this song longer, extra verse, another chorus even some solo's but nothing worked, it all sounded terrible so as Dany said why fix something that is not broken, that is why the song is so short.
