Kariya doesn’t remember anything about the rest of the series after that hit. They had to almost have someone guide him place to place because he was so concussed, and honestly, that hit was more or less the beginning of the end of his career.
To have a guy with a first hand account of iconic shit like this is unbelievable. A yinzer ball hockey guy, Canadian soccer playing ship paint sniffer, and Rupper. What a lineup.
As an Australian who became a Devils fan and watching games 2006 onwards, I miss the old school Devils games and the players we had. Love all the Devils history.
Sometimes people act like that was so long ago and we didn't know what to do about concussions then.... But we mostly did. A lot of people just ignored it.
Kariya has stated that he doesn't remember scoring the goal. Stevens was like a lesser version of Denis Potvin. The only thing he did as well as Denny was hit. Potvin was a mean beast, too. Just ask Rangers fans.
Scott Stevens was such a stud. I love how fans love to complain about Stevens but he was just using his toolset which was being a great athlete and physical beast compared to 99% of the league. If you have a unique tool in your toolset, you better use it. Paul Kariya and everyone else at the time knew what they signed up for when they put pen to paper and signed those contracts. Also, Stevens was a MUCH better hockey player than Paul Kariya, who gives a shit. Name another defenseman known for sheer brutality and shutdown defense that also put up over 900 career points, I'll wait.
@@atrholiday2889 yet to see anybody prove the man wrong tho... stevens was a force. Had whole teams shook before they even took the ice facing him. Look how many game changing moments the guy made whether it was body checks, fights, or scoring goals. Stevens is an all time great no doubt about it
@@atrholiday2889 can tell you're either mighty ducks fans or another metropolitan team that got shit on by the devils that year so you're salty about it. I understand. If stevens was on your team I guarantee you'd never say 1 bad thing about him. Different game back then. His hits were legal. Great moment by Kariya tho off the floor on the board... ill never forget that game
Great Podcast boys!! Keep it up, cheers from Newfoundland!

@@24inchdubz I haven't heard the story but it's a great show!
The call from Gary Throne on Kariya’s goal is legendary! “Off the floor, on the board!”

Off the floor on the board Paul Kariya. One of the most memorable moments in sports.
As a devils fan at that time - it’s a shame they didn’t hoist the cup that year. That would have solidified that year after that incident.
hockey talk clip page so I can watch 6-10 of these stories in a row please

Hope you guys realize that’s something a psycho says.
