It's probably because your device can't handle the graphics of the game. If you have another device I'd try using that or you can also turn your graphic setting to manual and turn it all the way down.
You can either press "travel" in the starter menu when you join the game or you have to go to the trailer and a map will show up where you have to choose XC/Trails I have a short tutorial on my channel as well !💕💕
