8:31 The reason why it said "one shilling" under the Maori mask on the New Zealand 10 cent coin was to help Kiwis adapt to the Decimal currency system which New Zealand switched over in 1967. In 1970, the "one shilling" was removed from the coin and the design remains the same (although it is now a smaller coin made of Copper Plated Steel) to this day. New Zealand when converting to Decimal like its Western Neighbours of Australia used the system of 1 Shilling = 10 cents, 10 shillings = 1 Dollar. 1 pound = 2 dollars.
I've been wanting to order a bulk lot to search but i don't want to get scammed into buying a pre-picked lot full of dead weight so to speak. Any recommendations and or suggestions?
As always, some great finds. The 1790 silver coin is from the canton of St. Gall in Switzerland. You did find a lot of scarce coins, but they are in low grade, which seriously affects their value. I'd say your most valuable finds were the French 20 francs and the British Honduras 10 cents.
The french coins mintmarks look like French Republic. Best guess is 1 Decime, L'an 8 (1799) with a W (Lille) mintmark and Cadecues privy mark to the right. The Kreutzer was Austria I think the guy with the fez was Iraq.
I always love watching you unpack these grab bags. Thanks for sharing.
Fascinating coins ... thanks for sharing.
2:39 un decime LAN 8, revolutionary french coinage

Dude where are you getting these bags? I work in a shop and I'd happily buy a bulk amount like that if I could get them!
Me too
I personally would ask family and friends because thats how I got involved in foreign coins from the 70's.

Thanks! And yes - conditions are tough.
Awesome hunt. Not sure what the old French copper was. I have a 1790s 12 Denier but it's different reverse.
Thanks!
