I want a season where every one of Joez's ideas is implemented, no questions asked
I support this. We are at season 4. At this rate we'll get to season 8 before the next Mario Kart game comes out.
Guts 8 should be the Mario kart season. Full chaos and all of Joez's video game based ideas. His intuition to lean on Mario kart and Mario party rules makes way more sense than trying to base this on real sports. It's middle aged men watching a children's show from the 90s. That is exactly why playing Nintendo games from our childhood is fun. We should follow their rules.

I’d be interested in seeing this, mainly to see the crazy amount that Joez would try to cheat throughout the whole season.
Draft a color and you have it for the whole cycle of O'Malley's shirt. You get the contestants you get. Could work out a trade mechanism for individual episodes

That's what I suggest. But they could do before the game starts and after 2nd event BUT they could offer some of the points they already have, so If someone sees someone they really like off the rip they could go ill trade you my player for yours and x amount of points, or they could do, ill swap you my player plus a future trade and x points. But basically they could use points to help sway the trade in their favor. Then no one is stuck with a dud 3rd(possibly).
I like the idea of picking a team and sticking with it for the season then trades could be more important

Also the Jomboy crew: Let's make scoring so difficult, even the Numberphile people would be confused.
For real, they needed corrections doing 3-2-1 scoring and failed to do some basic addition when trying to simplify the per-event scoring (see Jake's 25 to 5 insistence).
They should either keep it as simple as it needs to be for them to keep track of or involve somebody else who can work out the numbers as they do their discussion (so they don't table ideas simply due to poor arithmetic) and then keep track of the score for them.
They can't even remember the names of the kids they draft. They're not gonna remember their weird rules.

1st point - The absolute value of the points doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter if it’s 0-1-2, 1-2-3, 0-2-4, 375-550-725. If the DIFFERENCE between 1st and 2nd is equal to the difference between 2nd and 3rd, then the actual value of the points doesn’t matter.
2nd point - The stakes of the game are severely undercut when you give points per event. When you base points off of final standings, it usually means it’s anybody’s game until the very end. People will be on the edge of their seats if the difference between getting a point and not getting a point is still hinging on the Crag at the very end of the episode. Nobody cares about the stakes when your kids both have 800 points and the crag just decides who gets 1525 and 1350. The DIFFERENCE between those two finishing positions is greatly minimized when you base your points like that, and that’s why no one cared as much last season and also why no one bothered to make trades.

The "Funiest competitor" stuff isn't for points; it's like end of season NFL honors type stuff! MVP, Defensive PoY, Walther Payton PoY, Funniest competitor, does too much, etc...

The 25 point not getting corrected and them completely throwing that scoring system out because 1 person does bad math, and no one is good enough at math to catch it is wild.
In these meetings they jump around to so many different scoring concepts its like watching The Office, beach day episode where Micheal has Pam keeping up with his scoring and he gives out points and gold stars...

4) get rid of the no-trade clause
5) limit the amount of times
6) instill a 5 second shot-clock during the draft

It seems like you're all having trouble understanding that as long as the intervals between points are the same, the actual denominations don't matter.
3, 2, 1 is the exact same as 4, 2, 0, or 5, 10, 15
Reason being is that making up the difference is always going to be the same if the intervals are even.
If you want to reward a winner more, or punish a loser more, you need to create a different interval
For example, 4, 2, 1 would reward winning more, whereas 3, 2, 0 would punish a loser more.
But as long as the intervals are even, it doesn't matter what the actual numbers are.
You guys are looking for a system that either rewards winners, or punishes losers, and you've gotten so close a few times now to figuring it out, but you keep missing it.
This suggestion has been thrown out for multiple ball videos. Why don’t they get it??
0, 1, 3 is a good scale. That’s what chess does. Maybe one extra point for the crag win.
Events 0,1,3. Crag 0, 2, 6. The Crag is worth more in the points total during the actual game, make it worth more for Playin' too.
@@robertphillips7940 every rules update ive been hoping for this so much. it'd be easy to track, it'd make sense, and it'd give proper credence to the crag. and the way you make the crag brag matter is by adding 2 onto the aggro crag points (2 4 8) while all the other events are still on the normal scale. EZ-PZ
I was thinking something very similar, except it would be a 0-2-4 scoring system plus 1 point for winning the crag.
I do like the 0-1-3 scoring system but only if there weren’t any extra points given out for winning the crag. The reason being that, most likely, most episodes would end with 0-1-4 points being awarded, which I feel is too big of a gap from 1st to 2nd.

@@johnnydropkicks I'm actually pretty happy with what they came up with here. 0-2-4 with the chance to pick up a single point here and there.
If moving from 0-1-2 though, I'd go with 0-2-5 instead of 0-1-3. I just think the gap in relative value between 1st and 2nd in 0-1-3 lowers overall entertainment. It's fun to have comebacks during the season. Keeps everyone engaged each episode.

Exactly, they told Joez last meeting that if he was going to bring up power-ups he needed to bring better examples to the table next time. Seems like he didn't put any thought into it at all.
Season 5, where the show went off the rails on points.
I think the double or nothing angle has some legs but how about simplified version: Once per season each player gets a "lock." They declare they are using their lock in an episode following the contestant draft but prior to the first event. When you use your lock, you will get to double your final points (JJTV scoring) for that given episode. That's it.
I think it could help make everyone feel alive across the season; if you fall behind you always have your lock to try and spring forward on. Plus, it further rewards the ability to identify talent.
Here's my idea;
Each of you start with a number of points. 100, 500, 47, whatever. After each draft, you each gamble a number of your remaining points on your pick, silent auction style. Minimums should apply. Points being gambled are only revealed once everyone makes their pick, kind of like final jeopardy. Winner takes all. The person with the most points at the end of the season wins. This incorporates the idea of confidence in your pick, rewarding solid thirds, punishes overconfidence in dud firsts, and you could trade points for picks or players. Let me know when you come up with a better idea 😉
I kinda like this idea a lot, though perhaps not winner take all, but win back an amount of points equal to what their contestant received at the end of the episode. Then total carries over to how much they can spend up to in the next episode.

You could also bet on where you think your pick will finish. That way it rewards not just winning but accurate assessment of contestants.
This might be complex but y’all should be able to handle this
What if you do scoring based on the winner taking a maximum amount of points let’s say 100 to keep it easy and then the others taking the percentage difference they lost by in the episode for example:
BLUE Wins with 1500 pts and receives 100 points for the episode as the max score.
RED comes in second place with a score of 1350pts and so will get (1350/1500 * 100 points) = 90pts for the episode.
PURPLE comes in last with a score of 975 and so will get (975/1500 * 100pts) = 65pts for the episode.
This way it scales the amount of points to how well you did in the episode vs the winner.
To keep it whole numbers you can round up for any scores that would give a decimal number I don’t think over 8-12 episodes the rounding would make a significant difference especially if you round everything up.

The 4 of them could all play on separate teams for that. They have 2 men and 2 women per episode.

2. For power-ups, I was thinking that you each could draw 2 randomly from the following (they need to be played before the players are drafted, each player can use only 1 power-up per episode and once played, the power-up is gone):
Double Up: A player can double his final position score for that episode.
Halfsies: A player can choose another player to receive half their final score for that episode.
Triple Play: A player can triple his "Call you shot" bonus (turning it from 1 to 3 points, if they guess correctly).
Careful Now: A player can choose another player where if they guess their "Call your shot" incorrectly, that player will receive -2 points.
Get Blocked: A player can block a contestant from being selected for 1 selection.
Dibs!: A player can steal another player's power-up (and that stolen power-up can be played immediately or they can play it in another episode).

I'm excited for this season, the 3rd event boost is a great idea. Things like that are the best new additions cause it adds to the show, more interaction. I feel like last season there was the least interaction ever cause the close 2nds or 3rds just didn't feel impactful at all and you knew it was gonna be close even before the crag so nothing really mattered
The big numbers are simply the best, because they show accurate overall contestant quality, they stop all the ties and boring simple scoring, and also allow for large point swings and big come backs. Move the decimal place over two and round to whole numbers if nothing else, and add in some sort of power ups to make trades more possible.
Imo, yall should implement a rule like "shooting the moon" in hearts. If you have a 3rd place that gets last in every event, you win.

Having dud 3rds would help give an incentive to make trades. Trade talks are an instant highlight that have been lacking the last few seasons.

I like a 3-1-0 scoring system with an extra point for a Crag win. It makes winners real winners while keeping 2nd and 3rd fairly close. Also spices up trades if they still believe in purple crag lane to try to weasel an extra point for themselves even if its a losing contestant. The main problem with the scoring last season was not the points concept, but the fact literally half the episodes had an A contestant in a B crop, causing a runaway win
This is 100% the move.
(Could treat crag wins as a tie breaker like goal difference in football/soccer if they think a bonus point is too much)

GUYS I'm curious abt powerups but I think you guys are missing the most obvious one!
You should be able to unlock a scouting report for one (or all) of the contestants where you get to watch their "Spill Your GUTS" segment before you make your draft selection. It would add a bit of production work b/c someone else would have to go and make the clips but I think it would be funny and add some intrigue to the draft.
For example from last ep, JoeZack picks Lawrence with 1. Then Jake has to choose between Misty and Sarah. If he uses a scouting report he gets to jump ahead to the spill your guts for both and he sees that (1) Misty is 12, is a "Bowling Phenom" and a "Unique Bowling Trickster" and (2) Sarah is 11, is a "Runner" and a "Jumprope record breaker." Jake picked Misty IRL but if he had the scouting report I bet he'd be freaked out by the double bowling facts and would go with Sarah instead.

Scoring system example where both previous methods are used to balance out runaway winners:
Jimmy🥇: 1,925 game points + first place points (1.925 + 3 = 4.925)
JZ🥈: 1,350 (3.350)
Jake🥉: 1,175 (2.175)
Example for dud thirds:
Jake🥇1725 (4.725)
JZ🥈1550 (3.550)
Jimmy🥉775 (1.775)
If you combine the scores of the duds and the studs:
Jimmy (4.925+1.775 = 6.7)
Both second places:
JZ (3.350+3.550= 6.9)
The close first/third finishes:
Jake (2.175+4.725 = 6.9)

I think what we have learned is that you guys need to just make your own GUTS type show, and be the announcers for it.
The foreshortened perspective has Jake looking like Joez's kid.
Love the addition of bonus points to help with dud thirds and power firsts. Something that may help as well are blinds and butter sticks. Just think about it
I rewatched watchin Guts from season 1 and i noticed that in season 2 of Guts the events are mostly time based. This means that the kids are less likely to tie so you guys are also less likely to tie and the points are not close to each other which resulted to the domination of Jake. That’s why I don’t like the point system for season 4 of Watchin’. Unlike in season 1, the kids’ points are so close because there are many ties from the events.

Everyone has one event where they can choose to double their contest's points. You must declare youre using your boost before the event starts. At the end of the episode, winner gets 3 points, second 2, third 1 (based on episode scoring with event modifiers). No bonus points for anything else

Nah, most of the time the picks are pretty obvious. It's nothing special to draft the best kid with the first pick. For the player with the third pick to get the best kid, the first two usually have to screw up.
May I suggest that you do the Guts scoring? 100, 200, 300 for each ep for 4 ep (or more if u want) then a season finale crag brag where the scoring is like agro crag. Then a fixed 1,2,3 for the draft order like in season 1.
There should be a dud third bonus point where if your contestant gets 3rd in every event you get a bonus point

I feel like everything is over complicated. Soccer figured this out years ago 3-1-0. 2nd place or a draw is worth barely more than a loss and a win is worth much more. You could award for every even then additionally for final result it would make dominance super powered and a dud 3rd painful.
For your picks lock in the picks based on prior season results, so it would go next season JZ/Jimmy/Jake, Jimmy/Jake/JZ/, Jake/JZ/Jimmy every draft.
Still think they should make it simple. 300,200,100 points based on standings at the end of the episode. Crag brag at the end of the season is worth 725, 550, 375. Pick order set at start of season for trades

I’d love to see an end of season awards ceremony. That will fill the void of the funniest competitor, biggest dud, biggest stud, greatest crop, etc.
you should use a wager points system. before every event, you wager points. if your person gets first, add those points to your total. if your person gets second, it's a push and those points are automatically added to the next event. if your person gets third, minus those points
Power up idea: Dud Third prediction. The player picking third can claim Dud Third at the beginning of the episode. If that player goes last in all events, they get first place points. Players can use this power up until they fail, meaning that if their first time using the power up works, they retain the power up to use again later

It's hard for them to come up with decent rules when they can't seem to get the math right.
3x5 is 15
1x5 is 5
So the difference would be 10, or 5 per rank.
In reality, it would be 5 or 6 from first to third.
What needs to happen is points per event, but more points for winning episode...
Maybe make winning the episode 1000, second for 700, 3rd for 300. Then sweeping would get you 2200, but taking last in all would be 1000 which seems like a big difference, but you are guaranteed at least 1000 every round, so it isn't that many points.
The big issue this last season was that winning wasn't worth much, so getting someone that swept was too valuable. You could win half the episodes last year and still be way out of first because you barely won.
Can't wait for the blind and the butter sticks next season!
I think to incentive trading while keeping the scoring for individual events: When trading you keep all current points gained so far and only gain new points from your new player. Example Joez trades player A for player B after 2nd event. He keeps player A points from event 1 and 2 and then gets Player Bs point in final 3 events. This makes the person with better player get those big points from first 2 events but okay with dud last 3 events because they also got a pick out of it
for the next hands on ball... consider: 8 epsiodes where 1st gets 300, 2nd gets 200, 3rd gets 100 points. 9th episode krag brag where the points match the point values of the krag. points cumulative at the end of 9 to decide the season winner.
This is all so dumb and unnecessary.

I think what would help trades would be each event first place gets 1 point and the crag is 3
So many seasons and these guys still haven't figured out that multiplying the Guts score by 0.1 or 0.01 is the exact same as just adding up the 4 digit numbers. 11:40, I see Jimmy has taken my scoring idea. Joez's idea for superlative points is bad but maybe have a post-season awards show.

Just knock off the last two digits from each score.
Regular events get each guy 3, 2, or 1. Crag gets them 7, 5, or 3. Bigger spread emphasizes the crag. Easy numbers to calculate
Any system that scores each event leads to more runaway winners like Jake last season. It doesn't matter how big or small the numbers are.

Your 4/2/0 score system was sounding fine...but the bonus points just mean a total stud/dud episode would be 5/3/0 score. Throwing out some ideas to workout:
The 1st place kid shouldn't automatically get a bonus for running the table. If it's a 1st overall pick and they run the table, they should lose a point...because it was just too obvious/easy. But that means a complete stud/dud episode score would be 3/3/0.
Maybe say the 1st pick isn't eligible for the 1st place bonus and the 2nd pick isn't eligible for the 2nd place bonus.
Or could give bonus based on pick position vs finish position....
first place 22.3388 pts
second place 7.435767676 pts
thrid place 2.0060002004444 pts
the best possible point system based on statistical analysis of events that factor in the differences of bungee cords, crag lanes, colors, and the helpers and names of kids and mo's and mike's chemsitry and trades and audience members

I know most people arent big on math but for the love of god just takeaway that if the gap in points is exactly the same for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, it literally does not matter what numbers you give them, 4 2 0 and 3 2 1 and 5 3 1 and 10 5 0 are all literally the same thing

I think I got it. Needs to be a 10 episode season. The point system will be 300,200,100 just like the competition for the first 4 episodes. Around the 16 min mark Jim mentions he wants to make things easy. Look at the final score card and award point there, avoiding the need to pause or go back in a video.
The problem with wanting to introduce some spice in the show, you limit what you can do if you don’t keep track while the show is going on, as opposed to waiting until the end.
They care about A) simple math B) dud thirds and runaway firsts C) easy/simple to follow bonus scoring
It’s not difficult to have a pen, or spreadsheet running while the episode is going and make notes. We are here for this and will continue to watch, so it’s up to what you guys want to do.

You should draft a team... team dark grey light grey and darker grey and you stick with that all season, your locked into your team color off the rip. Then through out the season you can trade your player for an episode if you want and/or trade points. So jake could offer joeZak his player and 2 points off their already acrewed total score, for their player.
I think itd make things interesting your pre locked into your team and if jimmy sees a player thats team medium grey that he likes but hes team dark grey he can trade before the first event and second as well, but jimmy wouldnhave to weigh his trade out because if hes only up by 3 points and offers 1 point and his player off the rip then a person isnt just risking a 0 but maybe they see a ringer and 6 points is worth the gamble of the 1 point...
Your picking your team before the season then drafting players through out the season but you can offer more than just a "pick" thats now not in, or you could offer hey if you trade me light grey for my dark grey ill let you swap me one time later on or if its really juicy you could offer a player swap and some points. I think late season youd have higher point swaps/player swaps.

Respect to Jake for being open to a DQ getting no points for the event even though he's had all but one DQ after Joez didn't want to reward a bonus point or two to 2nd and 3rd pick winners because he's historically had the most 1st pick whiffs.
Support rules that make sense, even if they tend to skew not in your favor.
If you want to avoid the top points being a multiplier don’t do 3,2,1 as points. In that example it’s range is 15 to 5, but using 6, 5, 4 would be a range of 30 to 20, where a last place finish is only a third behind, if you want a close race
How about a 4-2-0 scoring system, plus 1 for finishing 1st in the crag? I think that offering bonus points in any other way will hinder any possible trading. Would that work well? Thoughts?
