it was all the Eteri drama that got me into figure skating
the drama made me a super fan but Tessa & Scott got me into it. it went: 2018 Olympics > Tessa & Scott > Evgenia Medvedveva > fs drama
Omg same lol
@@paolala exactly same haha. I'm from India where figure skating (or any winter sport) is not mainstream in the slightest. Tessa and Scott got me into it and the i stumbled upon your channel where i learned about the Eteri drama. Safe to say i'm hooked now 😄
@@kunalupreti41 that's exactly what happened to me, except I'm from Brazil, but winter sports are also not a thing around here
@@paolala It was the Eteri drama and mostly your channel that got me into figure skating, thank you girlie :)
Yulia Lipnitskaya’s free program in the team event in Sochi was the skate for me ❤️ ❤
Girl same! I was so in awe at how beautiful it was. Needless to say, I was hooked ever since then haha.
Me too
Me too. That s what got me into the sport and i ve been a mega fan ever since.
@@candyc3314 that last spin she did was just mesmerising
Same
7:28 "A story just as entertaining as GoT" don't forget full of betrayal, lies and two faced individuals
I'm a victim of Scott and Tessa's moulin rouge program, now I stay for the drama and gossip 😅
Love how you said that ANY Yuzuru skate could’ve been picked ❤
2014 Olympic SP 2015 FS GPF 2017 FP Worlds 2018 SP Olympics and soooo many more!
I agree☺All of them are so amazing in their own way❤And the way they also evolved through the years!
I swear, youtube decided to recommend me Yuzu’s Seimei Pyong Chang performance one random day at the beginning of 2020 and my life has never been the same since
UA-cam did the same to me with his 2014 Olympic short program. Same result.
Same with me!
You have my full approval for putting Tessa and Scott as the cover to the video!
My go-to program for introducing friends to figure skating is Yuzu’s 2017 WC FS, Hope and Legacy. It’s got quads, it’s got artistry, it’s got an eye-catching costume (admittedly not as eye catching as Origin 2.0 😂) and it’s got great music. It might be a tad slow for some, but I’ve found it to be very effective as a gateway skate :)
This is the program that got me hooked!
And to come back from 5th place to win made watching the marks go up even more exciting.
hope and legacy my beloved
My favorite figure skating routine ever is the RD by Papadakis/Cizeron in the 2022 Olympics. I have watched that thing a million times and it still gives me chills. It transcends figure skating, it's pure art
For me, it was Yulia Lipnitskaya's FP at the Sochi 2014 Olympics. Breathtaking!!
thisss omg "and this young lady was a sensation in the short program"
2018 Olympics just hit differently. Honestly anything about it in all categories
You should do this type of videos rating or talking about history about figure skating
She doesn’t really know the history of figure skating.
Watch "Magic Memories on Ice." It's got lots and lots of skating history.
For me at least an honorable mention is Katharina Witts Carmen from 1988. It thinks it's just beautiful and I think Katharina is also a great skater and interesting person in general
But not much people will probably know about that programm because it's so old
Sharon, I remember watching it live on TV before you had to pay for things like that. I can't afford Peacock or anything else, so the only way I get to see things is if there uploaded.
@@ringdoorbell3223 Thankfully archives have many great skates from yesteryear. Katrina's Carmen brought in many new fans if not for her sexiness..
haven't pressed play yet but i already know tessa and scott's moulin rouge program is on this list
It was Yulia lipnitskaya's free skate "Schindler's list" at sochi 2014 which got me into figure skating.such an unforgettable program.
- Mao Asada's FS from Sochi 2014 and SP from Worlds 2014
- Yuna Kim's FS from Vancouver 2010
- Wakaba Higuchi's "Skyfall" FS from Worlds 2018 and "Lion King" FS from Beijing 2022
- Kaori's Matrix program and Piano program from the 2018-19 season
- Yuzuru's "Hope and Legacy" from 2017 Worlds
TBH, any random one of Yuna's programs
Some japanese show polled a bunch of younger people interested in skating on their favorite ladies SP and the #1 pick was Yuna Kim's Bond program - more than a decade since the program was last performed and in spite of the really negative feelings Japanese people have associated with that program (you truly had to be around in 2009-2010 to know lol)
Definitely my pick to get ppl interested in skating, just on charisma alone
I’m so glad you included Aljona and Bruno. I watched that happen in real time and I’ve loved figure skating since
Torvill and Dean (Bolero and Let's Face The Music), Kaetlyn Osmond (Black Swan), Liz Manley (1988 Olympic LP), Kurt Browning (Casablanca), Joannie Rochette (2010 Olympic SP), Midori Ito (1989 World - both programs), Katarina Witt (Carmen), Bourne and Kratz (Riverdance), Yuna Kim (2010 Olympics), G&G (all programs!!), Sale and Pelletier (Love Story), Tessa and Scott (anything!!), and so many more!
Yes yes yes!! All of these!! ❤❤❤
A few honorable mentions:
Phillipe Candelloro's Rocky routine at the 94 Olypmics gala, and any Surya Bonaly gala with a one foot backflip!
@@b-zoneonroku2020 Loved both!!! Also Lu Chen Butterfly Lovers
@@brennanrobertson6572 '94 was all straight fire.
@@brennanrobertson6572 Lu Chen '96 Worlds Michell Kwan '96 Worlds (actually I showed a lot of Michelle Kwan to a friend and he was captivated)
Jason Brown's Riverdance is what got me hooked years ago! Another amazing program!
I got soo excited when you mentioned THE OONA AND GAGE BROWN😁😁😁
Kamila valieva's"In memoriam" got me into figure skating and im just addicted to it. My other favorite programs are Hanyu's seimei, aliona's angel/departure program and zhenya's anna karenina.
I love the Anna Karenina one!
@@kohlinoor I liked the movie and book so this program served everything I wanted 💗
G&G should’ve been #1. They had a chock hold on skating fans for a decade. Katia wrote a NYT bestselling book, had tv commercials, a Dateline episode, a made for tv movie and not to mention she and her daughter were on covers of magazines after losing Sergei💔
Girl don't forget that Spinning Out based the main characters' program on Tessa and Scott
They had the audacity to cancel that show.
@@Jeremy-wp4yhno because how could they leave us on such cliffhanger
Fr
@@Jeremy-wp4yh I knowww. It makes me so mad
The Moulin Rogue program was such a culmination of so many things for me. I love Moulin Rogue, I love Roxanne, and Come What May is one of my absolute favorite love songs. And of course, I'm a huge Tessa and Scott fan, and I went into those Olympics wanting them to win gold so bad. Watching it for the first time was an out of body experience. It's impossible for me to watch it without getting chills and crying at the end. Such an incredible performance.
On a somewhat related note, I think my favorite Yuzu performance (or at least one of them) is his Haru yo Koi gala from the last Olympics. Sometimes there are performances where the performer's love for their craft is just present in every note, in every movement, in every second. Combined with it being his farewell to competition, it was just so emotional and beautiful, and really highlighted his artistry and elegance. It didn't have all of the jumps of a competitive program, but it shined just as brightly without them.
Technically, Tessa and Scott were ice dancers, because their event was ice dancing, not figure skating.
Mao Asada 2014 world’s SP is, for me, what figure skating should be. The best for ever ❤
Ilia Malinin 2024 World Figure Skating Championship it was an edge of your seat clean and technically superior skate even Judgese never seen combinations mixed in such a dramatic storyline as Successions translated on ice like this, it was so evolutionary. I never saw so many people crying for joy, I'm glad I was there to witness greatness OMG!
Tatiana and Maxim's 2013/14 Full Free routine is one of the things that got me back into figure skating and the winter olympics as a whole! Them and Ashley Wagner's spunky routines captivated my little teen heart!
For me it was a UA-camr named Sophia figure skates then I randomly stumbled upon Alexandra trusovas cruella program which lead me to introduce myself to even more skaters.
These are also Top 5 worthy:
1. Alina Zagitova - 2018 Olympic Long Program masterpiece barely edging out favorite Medvedeva with an iconic, balletic yet athletic program backloaded with triple combos having us on the edge of our seats. Each jump perfectly accented to the high notes of Don Quixote. And who could forget her striking red dress, she looked like a princess
2. Guillaume Chizeron and Gabrielle Papadakis 2022 Olympic LP - two souls in unison, art imitating life.
I haven't seen anyone top aljona savchenko and Bruno's free Programme. The height and speed of their lifts and jumps was on another level. I'm struggling to get back into watching pairs.
The music choice was great as well !
Although I was already a casual fan, the performances that recently got me into seriously watching figure skating were Tessa and Scott's Moulin Rouge (just gorgeous), the Shibutani's free dance and exhibition gala at Pyeongchang (possibly my favourite ice dance team) and both of Stéphane Lambiel's programs at Vancouver in 2010 (despite the mistakes, his interpretation and musicality are beautiful, La Traviata always makes me cry). Also, although it's not figure skating and they were with different partners, for a while I was obsessed with Meryl Davis and Charlie White's performances on Dancing with the Stars. Meryl's foxtrot and Charlie's quickstep especially, they were born for those styles. All of their olympics programs are gorgeous as well.
Pairs Skating is basically cheerleading on ice
well i get your point, but no just no
There's synchronized skating too (they do group lifts)
The girls get tossed across the ice and land on one foot. I a sucker for a death spiral too.
I love Katharina Witts Carmen, it's part of my childhood somehow
Yesss Debi Thomas and Witts' "Battle of the Carmens" will forever be iconic.
jason brown’s “sinnerman” has got to be the most excellent program of all time! i always show it to people haha
For me it was also the program from Savchenko and Massot, because I never saw someone from my country in figure scating before 👀 and also Alexandra Trusovas Cheap Thrills program, I was amazed by her when I saw this for the first time (and still am today)
u got me into figure skating girlie your so cool! keep going
awww thank you!
Mao Asada Long Program in Socchi! It always has me in tears!
Papadakis and Cizeron?!!?!!!
Yes, I was wondering why they weren't' there.
One of my favorite figure skating memories will always be watching Gracie Gold at 2016 nationals. I was only 8 but it really inspired me to keep skating. It will forever be my favorite program
Sameeeee!!! Her and Michelle kwan and now Paola’s videos and the eteri girls got me into being a fan!!
What a great video idea!
thank you!
Michelle Kwan for me, then Oksana Biyul. The great Robin Cousins. So many from the past. And if you're going to include Ice Dancing in the Figure Skating category (most people don't), then you have to include the iconic Bolero by Torvill and Dean. I'm a fan of Tessa and Scott, but Torvill and Dean totally showed the world how to make Ice Dancing into storytelling. They broke the ice, as it were.
I got into figure skating in December 2022 because of a fanfic 💀💀💀 and then I saw all the Sasha Trusova edits and I got super hooked
Tessa & Scott Moulan Rouge, Jason Brown Riverdance, Kamila Valieva 2020 Olympic programs (or the ones that did not go horribly wrong lol), Ilia Malinin Succession
Good list! I definitely show virtue and moir and savchenko massot to newbies!
I went down a rabbit hole a few years ago and, even though I watched it live as a kid, Brian Boitano’s free skate at the ‘88 Olympics made me emotional watching as an adult. I also echo folks mentioning Katarina Witt’s Carmen and would add Ilinykh and Katsalapov’s Swan Lake!
ooh I'd also add Yuna Kim's James Bond Medley skate from the Olympics, it's such a fun program to watch, especially for people who are just getting into skating
It was Kaori short program at 2022 Olympics which got me into watching figure skating!
I love how many different programs you showed in this video! Sometimes I feel like when people try to get someone into FS they tend to recommend their own favourites only - which is totally okay, but not everyone likes the same styles. For example I truly acknowledge the greatness of Yuzuru Hanyu or Yuna Kim, but Nathan Chen, Shoma Uno and Aliona Kostornaia were the ones who dragged me into the sport truly (and I really never looked back since lol). I think it's important to realize that FS is not only about the atlethics, but also about the different types of storytelling and energies, and all could be beautiful, powerful and captivating to anyone - we all just have our own preferences.
So thanks again for the well-thought video! Great quality as always :))
loved this!!
@Paola La REALLY a fan of your channel and this is SUCH a good post! What a great idea. I was a fan when very young, I skated as a young kid in the 1980s and early 1990s. In the UK Torvill and Dean (along with John Curry and Robin Cousins) were superstars and all Olympic champions.
Studying meant I stepped away from skating in the mid 90s and 2000s.
2008: Tessa and Scott 2008 Umbrellas of Cherbourg blew me away - then again in 2010 Mahler Adagio and nearly all of their programs. Then Yu Na Kim/Mao Asada rivalry - I was hooked right back; add in Patrick Chan and Yuzuru Hanyu followed by Aliona Savchenko/Bruno Massot 2018 (choreographed by Christopher Dean), Russian drama and I can show You Tube figure skating videos to all my friends for HOURS!!
Michelle kwans tosca is definitely on my list too
yay! two of my most fav programs of all time are on this list--the 2018 LP of savchenko/massot and the 2018 FD of virtue/moir. that year was and still is a very memorable year in figureskating!
No Aliona Kostornaia?! I had originally clicked on a video of her out of sheer curiosity because she reminded me of someone. Since then, I've been the biggest fan of figure skating and have even taken it up myself. Watched all of her programs soooo many times and still do
Yes, number 4 got me hooked!
This might be for people that are already into figure skating but Mikhail Koyada’s White Crow is up there for me. No other White Crow can compare for me.
Love this kinda of video!!!!!! Love all your stuff tbh I get a heart attack when u post lol
I can vouch! The Tutberize drama sucked me in and now I am a die hard Figure Skating Fan.
Daisuke Takahashi hip hop swan lake is my Roman Empire. The TASTE!
I‘d add Katharina Witt Carmen and Surya Boralis Four Seasons as honorable mentions.
1:00 honestly i didn’t even know either of those names😅 the only one I grew up knowing was Michelle Kwan for some reason.
But the first figure skating vid I actually saw was *Hanyu’s 2018 Olympic free skate* & I was in tears by the end! Ever since then I’ve been following all the major skating events ❤
Also, as a dancer, skating was the only real sport I could get into & fully understand because of the artistic & emotive components. It’s probably the best sport for anyone who’s into the fine or performing arts 👌
I can’t take this seriously with Michelle Kwan.
As a newbie into FS(literally started joining the fandom within this past month), a few programs that I've liked and rewatched a lot are Yuna's FS in 2010 & 2014 Olympics, and Mao's SP in 2014 when she lands the 3A. I feel like the figure skater I've heard of the most before I became a fan was definitely Yuzu, I literally didn't know who Tonya or Nancy were until I started getting into the FS community.
Well if you watch yuna, mao, yuzuru then you’re set for good. There’re several champions fabricated by feds and isu but only the goat will stand the test of time.
I'd add Baiul's 94 Olympic short program to Black Swan to the list.
I would also recommend Sui & Han Beijing Olympics Free program, so emotional. Also Miura & Kihara's free from the same event, the way they connected with the music was phenominal
Okay..the fact that this list was made and not one skate of Michelle Kwan..Heck!.. there are top 10 lists made of her performances.
The olympics of 2014 made me a fan of Figure Skating, the 2 programs that made me fall in love with skating was Yulia Lipnitskaya shindlers list and Karolina Kostner Ave María.
Baiul's gold-medal performance at 94' Lillehammer would also be a great introduction to the 90s era of skating, as well as the 6.0 system. Would be nice to see other 90s legends besides Harding (as much as I love her) to get some recognition. Also, for good measure, check out these ladies: Ito, Yamaguchi, Bonaly(personal fav), Sato, Kwan, and of course, Baiul.
Can confirm the Virtue/Moir Moulin Rouge routine is a big reason why I resumed figure skating after a 15-year hiatus.
I am older - but still show people Torvill and Dean’s very old programs - which turn people into fans too
Yulia lipnitskaia 2014 sochi was the reason i started following the sport. There was just something so mesmerising, watching the girl with the red coat. It touched me deeply. I remember i was just passing in front of the tv and i stopped to watch.
Also i really love Gilles/Poirier van Gogh program. And sui/han bridge over troubled water❤
I like both Nathan's 22 Olympic programs but prefer the short tbh. Great vid anyway !
mine was definitely yuzuru’s parisienne walkways
I like that the list isn't based on personal favorites. The list is crafted with your friends in mind who know nothing about skating. Definitely well done, and shows so many different perspectives for an uninformed casual watcher.
It was the 2010 Farrucas OD for me 🔥
My list look at follows:
1...Yuzuru..LMEY
2...Yuzuru..Roncap
3...Yuzuru..Romeo and Juliet
4...Yuzuru..origin
5...Yuzuru..Seimei..his masterpiece 2018 Olympics
I am used to the best, I am a FANYU❤❤
Zhenya's memoris of a geisha is it for me.
Jason's River Dance is missing!! Great video though haha
Tessa and Scott's Roxanne as well as Chock and Bates' snake program got me back into figure skating. Ice Dance is still my favorite discipline.
I didn’t love ice skating until Belbin and Agosto, with the exception of Krylova and Ovsiannikov.
one of my honorable mentions have to be the Anna Karenina by Evgenia, her acting, her emotions, even the crying at the end, that programs fills me so much i think about it CONSTANTLY lmao
lmao the first time i saw the virtue/moir moulin rouge program i was like....damn if that's what platonic looks like i need new friends
My reintroduction to being a figure skating fan was through my love of mess; it was when I discovered the Sochi drama then the Russians' drama. And now I can tell jumps apart without slo-mo.
Thank you so much for including Tonya in your top 5! She is the reason I fell in love with the sport. Whilst a controversial figure, her combination of athleticism and technique is truly unmatched. Very few skaters even today attain the height that she did, whilst using perfect technique, especially on her gorgeous triple lutzes ❤️❤️
I personally prefer Ito's or even Bonaly's (at times) athleticism, but there will always be something about Tonya that intrigues me. Her 91' Skate America Free Skate is something that is engrained into my brain permanently, despite the mishaps. Perhaps, that's how I feel about her as a person as well. The lutz was certainly her best jump.
the sochi scandal with yuna and adelina was what got me into figure skating, but i stayed for adios nonino.
I think Papadakis Cizeron 2022 Olympics SP could've been also mentioned. It's a very successful and different program.
Odd choice for Trusova's program. Her JWC 2018 FS started the quad revolution and broke multiple women's FS records. By 2019, multiple women were doing quads.
Honestly, any of Hanyu's programs
Totally agree on Tessa&Scott and Oona & Gage Brown. Though my ultimate top will be always Stéphane Lambiel. Unpopular opinion that Yuzuru Hanyu is just not my cup of tea. Other ultimate top for me is Mao Asada. The one who got me into skating in 2004 was Brian Joubert. The reason I'm still with skating today is Stephane and Mao, since 2006.
I've got to say the Gabriella Papadakis & Guillaume Cizeron couple, they're so elegant and romantic on ice that they can get my eyes teary.
Then, Plushenko's feet sequences are iconic imo
@7:27 Is this YOUR creation Paola La? The T onnit is just all the T that you could fit, ledgebly (sp?), clearly able to read.🏅
dude I NEED that image so I can print it out and pin it up at work 🤣 you want people interested in FS? THIS is it
Moulin rouge is my roman empire

ALEXANDRA MENTIONED LESSSGOOOO
Just what I needed to convince my bf to be a fan too. Thks
Thank you. All wonderful programs. I am not sure I would pick all of these as the top five but it is your opinion. I appreciate the defnition is program not skaters to get people hooked on skating. I wouldn't have Savchenko and Bruno as they had like one month when thye won Olymics and World gold. Savchenko was more known for her other partner. Robin. While the germans were techincially superior teams like ARtur and both his partners had momre memorable and arguably eye catching performances. MIchelle Kwan's beauty on ice and Oksana' Baiul's musicality and grace espeically her olympic year short program are gigantic hooks. The energy from RIver Dance by Jason Brown, the sure brilliance of Bolero by Torvill and Dean. Ilia Malin's quad fest. at worlds this year might hook people. Yulia Lipnskaya's Olympic free skate in the team event was just wow you didn't need to be a skating enthusiasm to get hooked. Yagudin's freeskate the Man in th emask?? was also something that would interest even the non fan.
Yuzuru❤
*Isabeau Levito SP* skating to *Nella Fantasia* sung by *Jackie Evancho* @ 2024 US Nationals & Worlds.
