      He sounds a lot like his dad. It's really eerie???? Not sure if that's the right word but it's the only way to explain it.

      @@stephanie3230 he sounds a lot like early Tim Buckley. Tim developed a heavier vocal style with more reliance on chest voice later on but they are quite equally capable. Although Tim had a more stable vibrato. Jeff had vocal distortion and more eastern influenced riffs and runs.

    Thanks for taking my request, man. I am the guy (Steven) that you have been communicating with recently on that other platform that rhymes with Ritter (don’t want to write it, as my comment might not be published, otherwise). I am glad that I helped you get this video unblocked. Hopefully it will remain up in perpetuity.
    In case you are unaware, Jeff accidentally drowned in Memphis’, Wolf River (a tributary of the Mississippi River), in 1997. Just moments before he disappeared, he was swimming around, singing along to Whole Lotta Love by Led Zeppelin, which was playing on his friend’s ghetto blaster, back on shore. A tugboat passed, which caused his friend to briefly take his eye off of Jeff and move his stereo away from the lapping waves; when he looked up, Jeff had disappeared and was never seen alive, again. His body washed up, six days later, and was discovered, entangled in branches, on the shore, lying at the foot of the famous Beale Street (home of the blues).
    With respect to Jeff’s singing, yes, he is renowned for his expressiveness, wide range, and vocal acrobatics. He regularly used his voice as an instrument, filling space with random vocal runs that lend his music a really distinct dynamic and suspense, leaving the listener wondering where he will go with it. He was able to convey the full spectrum of human emotion better than anyone that I have ever heard, with the use of his voice, and he had an amazing ability to go from a seductive whisper to a blistering wail, without warning. He was also really good at slowly building up a song to a crescendo, and bringing it back down, then building it back up, again, if he chose to. This is really evident in songs like Dream Brother, Grace, and Mojo Pin.
    As for your mystification surrounding the ‘Jeff Buckley’ title: Jeff was signed as a solo artist, and although he recorded his album, Grace, as well as touring under his name, they were very much a band. Those were not simply musicians that he recruited to tour with him; they were a band as much as Led Zeppelin was a band; they merely stuck with Jeff’s name due to the circumstances of his signing, and the fact that it was his band and vision. Even though his bandmates were integral and part of the songwriting process, they were also there to support their leader’s musical vision.
    The music for Dream Brother, for example, was written on the first night that Jeff jammed, in his apartment, with his bassist, Mick Grondahl, and drummer, Matt Johnson. Originally a three piece, rhythm guitarist, Michael Tighe, joined the band in 1994, and co-wrote the song, So Real, which was released on the only album that Jeff completed in his lifetime: Grace.
    I am glad that you sound eager to react to more of Jeff’s music. You’re just scratching the surface of what is, besides Led Zeppelin, perhaps, the most incredible musical journey that you will ever embark on. You really ought to listen to his entire discography (there are plenty of posthumous releases, including a couple of live albums (one solo, one with his band), as well as the unfinished album that he was working on at the time of his death. I will share recommended songs with you via Twitteif that is alright, as that way I can ensure that you see them and receive the appropriate links, which is crucial.
    Lastly, I already mentioned that Jimmy Page and Robert Plant are huge Jeff Buckley fans, but since you have also reacted to Rush and Tool, you might be interested to know that Rush’s drummer, Neil Peart, was also a big admirer of Jeff’s (he spoken very highly of his in his book, and elsewhere). As for Tool’s drummer, Danny Carey, he and Jeff were once in a country/bluegrass band, in the late ‘80s called, The Wild Blue Yonder. There’s an audio clip of Danny, on YT, talking about Jeff and said band.
    Anyway, the next song that I would recommend is:
    *Jeff Buckley - Grace (BBC Late Show).*
    I’ll send the link on Ritter.

    Robert Plant tells the story of how he and Jimmy, when they were performing at the famous Montreaux festival in Switzerland in the 90’s, had a night off and went to see Jeff Buckley perform. They were absolutely blown away. Once, when an interviewer mentioned Buckley, Freddie Mercury and Plant as being peers, Robert quickly demurred, saying that Freddie and Jeff were in a tier he did not consider himself to be in. Plant was proud of his work, and sure of himself, but also self-effacing and readily acknowledges singers that he considers better than himself. And Jeff Buckley was one of them.

    He actually made this song for his friend because his friend wanted to leave his girlfriend or wife because she got pregnant so he's telling him in the song don't be like the one who made me so old and left behind his name then he says you're just like him meaning don't be like my father because Jeff's father Tim Buckley left Jeff's mom when she was pregnant with him. His friend ended up staying for the girl and his unborn son it's a really deep personal song

    Oh, lordy. Okay, somewhere I know you've got a list going - please add Jeff's "Hallelujah" - probably the most popular version, and, for me, the only one anywhere near as good is PTX version that you already listened to. He does have a great voice, but more than that, he is so expressive in his singing. His "Lover, You Should Have Come Over" is awesome. His whole "Live at Sin-e'" album is epic :-)

I dont believe in greatest of all time (or G.O.A.T.S.) but hes the most fluid singer ive heard while attempting difficult in the moment things and while playing solid guitar.

    Not a great intro for Jeff or even a great performance. Your voiceover is also far too loud.

  • @zacknicley8150
    @zacknicley8150 2 роки тому

    I’ve heard of him before but I’ve never heard his music until now myself. I have to give an honest critique and say I know exactly what he is aiming at but his voice is too warbly for the small intonations he is singing. Also, the music he and his band are playing lacks any sophistication, there is no melody or fills to go along with the (very) long intro.
    If you want to really hear something, listen to The Human Game by Lisa Gerrard & Pieter Bourke.

    • @Bbouy1HD
      @Bbouy1HD 2 роки тому +4

      The melody is his improv voice in the intro. It's suppose to showcase his voice and the instrumentation is meant to be a buildup and release throughout the intro, it's a live show, just the music and instrumentalism by the original studio versions and I tell you to listen to the whole Grace album and say that again with any conviction.

    • @MojoPin1983
      @MojoPin1983 2 роки тому +6

      @Zack Nicley Did you listen to the entire song? The intro is merely a warmup exercise for Jeff’s voice, as this was the first song from this particular concert. The intro wasn’t supposed to be melodic. He was just strumming basic chords to aid in his vocal warmup.
      The warbling aspect of Jeff’s singing was largely inspired by one of his biggest musical influences, Pakistani qawwali singer, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.
      How you can so casually say that the music - once the actual song kicks in - after the intro, lacks any sophistication? The main melody of the song is highly creative and imaginative. The likes of Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Bono, The Edge, Neil Peart, Jeff Beck, Steve Vai, Chris Cornell, Thom Yorke, Elton John, Elvis Costello, and so on, would disagree with you. All of them lionized Jeff and his musical abilities.

    • @MojoPin1983
      @MojoPin1983 2 роки тому +5

      @Zack Nicley An addendum: I would recommend that you listen to the studio version of Dream Brother; the arrangement is quite different than this live version. This song, like many others of Jeff’s, went through a radical transformation, once he and his band hit the road and had toured for a while.
      When most of the album, Grace, was recorded, the band was still a three piece, and they had only been together for a few weeks, when they originally entered the studio in the fall of 1993, thus, many of the songs on the album were still in their infancy, and later went through an evolution.
      Jeff and his band also improvised constantly, in a live setting, and never played a song the same way twice, so each performance needs to be judged on a case by case basis.
