  • Things are radically changing at Spoonflower. I this episode, I am discussing the email that came out the day of filming (November 2023), changing how the Spoonflower print on demand platform works. Among the new changes are caps on weekly uploads and no more (paid) proofing requirement.

I use the fill a yard option for my proofing, which saved me a ton of $. That said.. proofing is pretty important. I have found that I usually like what I get, but every so often, I do need to adjust size or even completely scrap a pattern once I have seen it in person.

I am certainly skeptical about the quality of designs customers will receive after proofing goes away. Sure, they get to preview the design, but often those tiny errors are not obvious without looking at the physical proof

For me, as an artist from a distant country, one of the main obstacles to entering the Spoonflower market was the long and expensive delivery of samples of my fabrics. Thanks to you, I heard good news, thank you! I also think that the administration of Spoonflower is going in the right direction by taking care of all sides of the transaction: optimizing resources for themselves, fresh and constantly updated content for the client, and also a helping hand for artists and the right measures to keep them on their platform.

Hoping these changes bring you tons of success! I am glad artists like you will not have to pay such huge delivery costs anymore

I would have preferred if new sellers had to pay to proof their designs until they have a certain number of patterns. Then Spoonflower guarantees quality since by then those sellers have improved their making process to product higher quality outputs.

Another mechanism they should put in place is a waiting period before sellers can relist delisted items. Say a week or two. Then that forces sellers to actually think about patterns they have for sale and if they should really just remove or update a design.

Does anyone know how to add the color ways option on designs?

The last time I checked it was a beta program, in which they selected artists and automatically allowed color ways. I'm not sure if this has expanded to all artists, however. You can write Spoonflower directly, however, and they are usually responsive
