Impressively rigid but as always if you clip the coax to the lower sections of the mast with reusable cable ties or some velcro, you take some of the weight off the top and it will do even better if there is a wind

Does it flex much? Do you run heavy coax on it?

Thanks for the review Mike. I already have a DX Commander 10 M pole, which I really like. This pole has a much more stout top section than the DXC pole, and is what I really need. I got one coming my way. Looks like far less bending at the top. Of course now I need to order a 3rd 10 M pole so I can set up a flat top dipole when there are no trees around. I'm taking donations....lol

This is the one I have. Love it. I use a trailer hitch flagpole holder (2"). For it to fit, I take the bottom cap off (duct tape to hold sections in). Works great.

Mike did you ever tried strapping the coax to the mast with some removable strap (I use velcro strap) so the coax won't load the mast as much horizontally? Just one or two straps near the top sections of my fishing pole made it much more vertical even with RG- 58. Obviously it still will not hold a heavy antenna, but for a dipole it worked for me.

My thoughts exactly. Or leave the topmost section nested but use the eyelet nested and floating for a stronger top. 3-4 feet difference in height won't make any difference.

Nice mast. I have one and have used the snot out of it.The drop in hitch mounts will scratch the bottom so care is necessary. The Mast Company sells the same model as well.

Great video Mike! I recently had the pleasure of meeting Bob and his wife, they were so nice and even went out of their way to deliver a drive on mast support to me. I wish I had known they sold mast as well, maybe next time!

This pole should be compared to the Spiderbeam 10-meter product distributed by Vibroplex in the U.S.. Just about the exact same specs, very rigid, has an eyelet and costs just $92. I have two 7-meter Spiderbeam poles and a 12-meter pole that's been up at least four years and has survived four upstate NY winters. They are solidly built with excellent craftsmanship. I am not a saleman for Spiderbeam...I just think they make a superior product that's better than most of the other poles out there.

Try Blue Sky aluminum tripod mast. AL1 series a company out of Florida. 10 meters 3ft section 2in OD can be assembled 1 person. You tube video available. Also would be great for field day.comes in heavy duty bag with wheels. I've used in the south Pacific area. No problem with rust. Can take down quickly when needed like typhoon conditions. Will carry 30 lbs at 31ft 40 lbs at 20 ft. So you could use rotator
and a moxon or small Yagi supported by fiberglass fishing rods.

This looks nice. I use an 11m telescoping carbon fiber carp rod. If you want more stability at the base for sand or less densee soil, a spiked umbrella anchor works great and is super cheap.

I'm currently looking at the various carp rods- any you'd recommend?

    • @kurtzFPV
      @kurtzFPV Рік тому

@@nathanharig I always buy Goture brand on the big south american river website. They are well made and the smaller ones are excellent as an inexpensive alternative to tenkara rods. Unfortunately it looks like the longest they are selling right now is 24ft. Even on the thick 11m one that I bought, you lose the thinnest segment at the top because it is too thin to support much. If you search 11m carp rods on the site, there are two brands that come up with one of the brands even offering a 13M, but it looks like they ship from China, and I don't know what the quality would be. They are also more expensive than the Goture. The ZFF brand ones look pretty nice though.

Disclaimer: No masts were harmed in the making of this video 🤣 It looks awesome, especially seeing it with the POTA Flex coax. I made some RG316 coax (thanks to one of your videos) to use with my linked and OCFD dipoles so it doesn't bend the masts too much.

I like the 4.5-pound carry weight, quality construction, finish and pricing. A 35-foot fishing pole is a bit flimsy to be practical even if using RG-316. But doable regardless.

I purchased 3 of these masts based upon this review. In my experience the rigidness claim is grossly overexaggerated.
I obtained from TN07 Engineering, guying rings for the very top section. That is not adequate and I need guying rings for down lower. I have not yet received reply from TN07 Engineering and have just contacted the Mast Company since they also sell this model mast. Any other ideas for guy rings or do I need to diy?

Compares quite favorably. I have the 12 meter Spiderbeam. It is supporting an 80 meter doublet with a 42 foot ladderline feed. It has held up 3 years now through near hurricane force winds. Also use a TN07 31’ mast as shown in this video. It has been used for various end fed, L wire antennas and other wire experiments. It has given me great service. The friction/twist locks really hold up well too. I have two of the TN07 masts. I recommend both!

Spiderbeam makes some really really great masts that are very well made and very reasonably priced. Their 12 meter mast is prob the most popular. www.spiderbeam.com/index.php?cat=c2_Fiberglass%20Poles.html&XTCsid=7ee754fb8595ac879fb9edf50576d588

  • @Sagart999

Pro Tip: All of these masts flex; some far too much. You can keep the flexing down to a minimum by using blue painter's tape to marry the coax to the mast every 5-6 ft. I use this solution to keep my SOTABeams 6 mast under control when hoisting a roll-up j-pole. The engineering of this solution is based on the end loading of columns with offset loads, if anyone cares and wants to look that up.
