Artfx will you more music theory tutorials ? I learnt scales but sometimes I still got lost when it comes to make a complex melody or chord progression.
Skarey Here's the simplest method to melody making. 1. Choose a scale/mode to work with. Play it through several times to get comfortable with it. 2. Improvise within the scale to find a nice little motive, or a little snippet of a melody. 3. Duplicate that motive and create several variations of that motive. 4. Use that motive and those variations to create a musical phrase. 5. Duplicate that musical phrase and create variations of it. You now have an entire musical melody, based on one musical theme. This is the technique that has been used since the days of classical music. Since then, many other techniques have been developed, but this one remains tried and true.
plutoniumZRAGE Thank you for the reply. I've been using this technique for a long time and It's really effective for melodies. I'm looking fir some tutorials on how I can apply complex chords to my melodies.
Skarey honestly, the only way to really work with music in terms of theory is to just keep practicing and be around music theory all the time. maybe even do a music board's theory exam (you dont have to do the exam, but just the preparation leading to). music theory should be almost natural and doesnt require much though to make life really easy. its a long path
George Macken I work with music nearly everyday and I know that the path is long but I'm just looking for the info about more advanced aspects of music theory.A tutorial or a pdf text something that will make me progress faster. Last tutorial thaught me a lot and I was just curious if there will be more of them.
if you are willing, search for abrsm music theory. im not sure what level you are, so there are the very basics of notes and scales. if you are past that maybe try looking at grade 5, that is the standard for most classical musicians, even if they are very advanced musicians. grade 5 just covers all you ever need. its really worth it, ive never had to think about theory when i started because of this Good luck
