As a westerner, I feel like I want to thank India every day of my life. So many beautiful gifts we have been given from Vedic culture. I feel grateful beyond measure.
I thank the country everyday for giving us Dr. N. Rajam, the greatest Indian Classical Violinist in Hindustani music today. I suggest you to listen to her music as well 😇😇
I really appriciate Pandit Nikhil Bannerjee and hes musical standpoints, he has the soul of India, even more than Ravi Sankar. Raga Malkauns played By him is my favorit, it is really deep expression of bhakti and striving to the goul God has haft in mind fot us. This aftenoon raga is more new for me. I listened it the first time, calm it made me, it pured me from days influences towards the night.
You said perfectly brother Pt. Ravishankar was Scholer but Pt. Nikhil Banerjee was The teacher (ACHARYA) of the Indian Classical Music Specially on Sitar.
I was looking for a complete version of this recording for ages. Thank you very much! I've listened to hundreds of hours of ragas but this one strikes me as one of the most sublime. It captures the spiritual heritage of India beautifully.

this has the power to make an atheist like myself start believing in the "Supreme Truth" originating from a singular "Supreme Being"..... and bring tears to the eye unknowingly !!
When i listen this raag, it feels beyond everything.. Actually it feels like you are away from everything, everyone,in fact my existance was also gone.. Such playing is rarest. Thank you for uploading.
A real master. Very true to his words. It sounds like he never practiced for the sake of performing in public. There are no catchy phrases or tihais to draw applause and the usual technical exhibitionism.
Mayuresh Kelkar very well said. This was one guy who was entirely devoted to melody and mood at hand, nothing else was important. All his expertise was devoted to the art in its most genuine. My father says, “this guy kept pulling the strings of not the instrument but his own soul, his whole life, and we kept listening in devoted awe!”..
Thank you so much for uploading this particular rendition by Pandit Nikhil Banerjee. Over the years, as I continue to listen to sitar (I am a student), there are 2-3 recordings I keep returning to. All of them by Pandit Nikhil Banerjee, and even among those ... this one touches me at a depth like no other.
Out of this world! Glad that great quality recording was made for this Devine live performance! Luckily found this after search as I just started learning Bhimpalasi on Sitar. Can listen to this tirelessly every day. So many techniques played effortlessly. 🙏 to Pandit ji.
Yes, Ravi Shankarji is more known and did the most in bringing awareness of sitar globally. In my mind, Pt. Nikhilda's sur and performance is so pure, it feels like he is connecting to your very being. As the day is winding down, you are back from a full day's work, the sun is slowly going down and you start listening to Bhimpalasi by the master. Sublime experience. Hopefully someone can provide the Bandishes he is playing. I think the first one is Ja ja re apne mandirwa.
I offer my pranam to the artist. He is one of the God's chosen ones to make his musical offerings to the soul of this country. I enjoyed it as much as I do from Khan Saheb Abdul Karim Khan 's rendering of this raga.
Please listen with headphones. Greatly played bhimplas by pandit ji. Tabla is so softly and gently played by shri kanhai datt, It creates heavenly sensation in ur ears.

Sri Nikhil Banerjee’s music provides a direct link to the divinity within us and that is all around us. It has been a source of inspiration for me throughout my own life journey as I am sure it has been to countless others. God Bless his Soul🙏🙏🙏
A journey through the realms of inner space, the space within ourselves. To go beyond and within. Words can only approximate that of which is best expressed through the medium in that it was first conceived. This is where the power of music resides. It is a conduit to the stars above and the past before. We are mere vessels of causality. Blessed with the awareness and opportunity to experience the awe of existence. Pandit Banerjee takes us on the path of transcendence, showing us the road to enlightenment.
When I think of pandit nikhil banerjee, I am reminded of the magic this LEGEND created with Ustad Ali Akbar khan in raga chandranandan. He undoubtedly had supreme powers, without a shade of doubt. Mighty blessed to be an indian

Usually, the alaap is followed by jod and jhala before a gat is played, isn't it? Here the jhala follows the gat, maybe that's the reason why the alaap itself appears short. What do you think?
Arindam Sengupta Probably you are correct. absence of jor and then jhala after gat may have created that feeling. It is difficult to reduce tempo once you reach jhala, that could be the reason he chose to play it after drut.
A masterly rendition from a nonpareil sitarist Professor Nikhil Banerjee accompanied by the tabla wizard Kanai Dutta. Thanks very much indeed for uploading this sublimating performance.
