This is 1973 - no light shows, no special effects, just Bowie and his band holding the whole thing
Remember this is the era of long hair, denim and long guitar and keyboard solos - this was like nothing anyone had seen before
It's very hard to describe what it was like being in the auditorium that night
I was in the balcony but even from there this was something that you just would never forget
It started with the auditorium completely dark except for two spots on the two Ziggy flashes above the stage
Ode To Joy from Clockwork Orange plays - it is dark, hot, the audience are at fever pitch and then all of a sudden the band and Bowie are there
Bowie look like nothing you've ever seen before with the Japanese inspired costumes
The band is right on it and Ronson is fantastic
The entire show is his performance - nothing else - and you can see from this song how he expresses the songs physically as they are performed. It is intense and exciting.
It's now over 50 years ago and it still sticks in my mind

I had the pleasure of seeing David Bowie at MSG during the serious moonlight tour. He and the band were phenomenal and we enjoyed the show immensely..

Ronson playing that guitar sounded like a Moonage Daydream! I caught the Station to Station tour in 1976 in Detroit. My brother snuck in a telephoto camera (35MM) and he has some great photos of Bowie.

Just so you know, Mick Ronson's guitar solo to close this out is the greatest live guitar performance of the 70s IMHO.

This entire concert was shot with a home movie camera and then stuck in a time capsule for several years! Love the effect that Moonage Daydream has on the audience!

      that isn't true
the whole thing was filmed by D.A. Pennebaker and released to cinemas at a later date
the whole thing was digitally cleaned up a few years ago to mark the 50th anniversary.
In those days no one had home movie cameras that we capable of filming concerts.
we still grappling with the challenge of taping them on cassette tapes

Shot in 35 MM and shown in 16MM, originally. Watched it in a near empty theatre. For Bowie fans only!

Yes, pennebaker did film the concert! Never realizing that it would be Ziggy’s last! I’m just saying , he did a great job of filmmaking with what he had!

Saw Bowie live several times on various tours if everyone who says they saw that last Ziggy gig was actually there the audience would have filled Wembley stadium

I had the opportunity to see him on the Serious Moonlight tour back in the early 80s. His Berlin trilogy with Eno is incredible. The Ziggy Stardust Era saw three great collaborations, Transformer, Raw Power, and the Mott the Hoople album. Bowie was unique.

I was 12 when this occurred. An extremely "groovy era" of which i am so happy that i was growing up in. Our teens were a Golden Time!

Looking at all the teenage girls in the audience I wonder if one of them is the 14 year old Kate Bush, who was there that night. You can see where she got her love of theatricality from :)
I saw Bowie twice that year, in January and June 1973, either side of the release of the Aladdin Sane album. Such great shows, I never thought they would be topped, until I saw Kate Bush herself on her 1979 tour...

Even though it took so long to release and didn't do much box-office, it was great that Pennebaker put the tour on that film which showcased Bowie at the height of his vocal range and the penultimate end of the Ziggy character (which reappeared a few months later for the _1980_ _Floor_ _Show_ performance). And yes, you do need to see the movie. I didn't know it has been re-released, so thanks for that info.

My experience is that I have been a devoted fan since about 1970. Too young to have seen Ziggy live. But I did attend 3 of his gigs in Vancouver Canada. I only wish I had been able to see Ziggy. After the release of the Lets Dance Album, I quit buying his albums.

The thing I love about this is you guys listen to the whole song and THEN discuss it. The most annoying thing with most of these reaction videos is that they keep stopping and starting …ugh! You can’t feel the power of the song doing that, so, good job guys. Crying girls at rock concerts is normal 😂 been there done back in the day 🤣🤣🤣

Saw Bowie in the fall of 74 and he was already into the blue eyed soul phase of his career. Talk about disappointment.
