Haha! Couldn't think for the life of me about F.A.D.s at the time. Thank goodness for titles when editing! You could easily paddle around the boat ramp area and find plenty of action, have caught heaps of fish within sight of the ramp over the years.
hey ross, thanks for another great vid. i fished dart for the first time in my yak recently. just loved and caught plenty of nice trout. your vids inspired me to get up there, so thanks.
Hey Rob, thanks so much for the kind comments. I love that you were able to get amongst them up there. It is certainly a great place to fish. Tight lines mate.
Thanks for talking a bit about your lead line set up I reckon I will give it ago this February better to have a few different options then just flat lining and the down rigger
Gday again Ross. Thanks for the show. Never seen the dart b4 from water level, looks great and, as usual, I learned some more - hope I remember it :-). Also hope to get up there later in the year & try it myself. Cheers
Hi Shane, sorry for the late reply. The Daiwa Beefsticks are Model BS702MS, 2.13m in length and line rating of 4-8kg. As for overhead reels, I don't use them but if they are your preference, probably a 5000 series as leadline is quite bulky. Hope this helps mate.
Hey Ross, loving your videos. Just a quick question, I'm pretty new to leadline fishing on your alvey reels do u have all 10 colors spooled on and how much leader do u have on
Hi Michael, I do have all 10 spooled, but I rarely use more than 5, so you can cut them in half and have two that will be fine on 99% of the days you use them. My leader is 15lb mono, and around 10-15 metres. Hope this helps.
@@lotfytime at 4 colours, 40 yards (about 35 metres) plus leader about 45 metres all up. When at depth you don't need a lot of drop back. When downrigging, we only drop back about 15 metres when fishing a bomb anything deeper than 6 metres below the boat.
They are Magnum minis, very basic, but I think they are no longer being manufactured. Scotty makes a very good manual downrigger for boats up to 5 metres.
Another great informative video Roscoe, was hoping you would put another video up, so hard with all the restrictions. Good to see Robbie also follows you, subscribed to him as well.
Thanks so much Bryce. Robbie and I have known each other for many years, but have never fished together. We keep threatening to do a collaborative video together. One day soon perhaps!!!
That's correct, Malcolm. Leadline is measured in imperial lengths, spools are generally 100 yards (10 colours) or 30 yards (3 colours). I rarely go further than 5 colours, and sometimes cut them in half and create two.
@@FishtalkVideo thanks for that , getting old and forgetfull , I have a couple in the shed haven't been used for 30 years. Thought I might set a rod up for the next time I get the boat out, subject to covid of course.
Hi Ross, great to see you're out again. Would you and Jamie mind putting together a video of some of your smoking methods and recipes at some time please. I think smoked trout eaten cold the next day on some crackers and cheese cant be beaten. Would like to know how to get stronger tasting recipes through different timbers and brines. Thanks Craig
Great idea, Craig. I use a very simple brine with apple woodchips for most of my smoking, and I agree with you, smoked trout can be superb. Incidentally, yellowbelly comes up well also.
great videos thx but i dont understand led line...you mit get more fish with led line but you get no fight from the fish..i like i good fish that fights...bit boring just draging them in with out a fight...but thx for the vids
I agree Michael, but when fishing alone, they are easier to operate than downriggers when the fish are down deep. I much prefer flatline trolling but at Dartmouth, there are very few times where it is successful.
@@FishtalkVideo thx for getting back to me..i understand..but i am a fisher that loves the fight off a fish..keep up with the vidis love them...would love to fish with you 1 day...i am an albury
Nice to see you out Ross, nice fish, too. Appreciated the run through with the gear, as well. Trying to plan some trips but not looking good up here till probably Dec if we're lucky. Can't wait to get out, though. Till then, more vicarious happiness!! :-) And thanks for all the fish ... Cheers PP
@@FishtalkVideo Thanks Ross. We're trying mate. Aiming for early Dec now, if all goes well. "One of those places for fish to hide" hahaha
Loved it. Awesome work Ross. Great to see water in the top of Hume.
I need to go kayak fishing in Dart.

Another great video, Dartmouth is looking good at the moment.
Steadily rising over ground that hasn't seen water for a while, Ron. Should continue to improve.
Thanks another entertaining video.
Thanks Chris, it was so good to be back there.
Just love it up at Dartmouth great fishing and amazing scenery. Thanks for the tips on using lead line as well 💜🎣
Thanks Nikki, it's been one of my favourite destinations for many years, I should be visiting more often!

Well done Ross, only been up there once myself it's a big big place.
It sure is, Sam, however I have had some great sessions up there when I didn't get out of sight of the boat ramp.

I love fishing the Mitta, and I do a bit of relief teaching at the wonderful little primary school there.

ive heard in some of your videos that those alvey reels have been discontinued, is there any other ones that u would recommend cheers mike
Hi Mike, you can use large drum reels and a lot of people do. Alveys are my choice, but drum reels also work well and have a faster retrieve rate.
There are other brands that produce centre pin reels similar to the alveys, and you could check eBay etc for 2nd hand units.
How long is one colour, I thought in the old measurement it was 10yds per colour? Is that right?

Hi Are they just garden worms?
European night crawlers, but fed oats to fatten them up. Flat tail garden worms work very well too.
