    Great video. I was part of that culture and part of the masses that moved to AOL and began using cracked Photoshop and Visual Basic to make all sorts of shenanigans for AOL and various other applications. Thus began my journey into a life of tech projects.

    Trick groups are made in advance before bbses were popular even.
    Had to do this my own way as I felt I would be arrested for piracy, but still wanted to do it while being flexed on that I was surveilled.

    Final jab at the warez scene. If you want to see an actual opinion of it.
    This was developed by USA to give them outs and to show that programs were getting cracked, and hacked all the time without them.
    So they would code different variants of keys that would be easily seen in a consumer editor so people could see that it was indeed possible to crack a program that way.
    This is to an extent only but would give USA an out when bugs were noted etc..
    People sold to it, both other countries and in espionage (though I dont know anyone in Canada there). I did know other countries went there to sell sides and opinions.
    They will still do it even after I call out this though most things have moved to online versions of gaming and programs.

    • @Panacea9
      @Panacea9 Місяць тому

      People went with it because it would both take it from USA and relieve certain tactics though no one know the extent of what it would be at the time. Whether it was a positive for them to push or neutral.
      People had a hard time selling to cracking and such and it was a noticeable gap in the scene on the internet.
      People also said it was to sell companies and such and the ability to go into tech without usa backing in their country but this wasn't the case as every other country knew that usa pushed their own industry.
      Those same flaws were in other countries programs though and compilers and such were restricted.

    This video has SOME mentions of Warez, but it's MOSTLY a discussion of ANSI art, and it's ties to BBSes. Nice to see my THG mentioned though.

    You have very good knowledge of the Warez scene , was part of it in Quebec and we did crack of it lol, Ya you mentioned Elite vs Square , a very good topic yes Elites are a bit of Snobes and have a dissing attitude vs peoples asking how to and 101% of the time are Jerks ... and you are right lol . I am Elite and problem is we Hunt for Knowledge and back in the days , not much was written about how to crack how to run a bbs how to just use you computer so its not your Uncle toaster , it take lots and lots and lots and even more time invested in that quest for computer knowledge How many days Gf was in bed ready and all BUT had to finish that line of code...oups now its another line that does not work WHY ... HEy We are drinking and having wana come ? Nann I am doing someting right now and wil loose my train of tought if i quit now ! so back to computer again SO its cool but yeah and when you dont know stuff and they only way to know this or have acces to that is to pay good money ... well you pay and this will happen a lots of time :) SO when ask hey how to I use that crack on this well we mostly not tell , Same for ANSI at first no body share how they whre doing it , then you start copy you learn and you do better , same for warez scene it was a competition on who crack it first and legs got broken , and big arguments , Even got Chinese mafia trying , well not trying but saying that my stuff belong to them now so yeah ...Elites are a specials brand of peoples that was there first and with strong egos , but are also prety awsome and cool so I miss my Trs-80 and my 80286 :) Cheers all the 80-90 where a fun ride only complain is in our Mind computing was like now but with what we had its just a miracle that it Happen :) I wanted a Quest 3 in the 90s but got Nitendo Vr ...was very disapointed :) lol

      @@kevinbouton-scott4589 Hey! Thanks for doing the film, I am really glad to hear that you did get coverage from the tech sites (even though I missed it). Do you have any intentions of doing something else in this vane? It was posted on r/Documentaries and that's where I first saw it, but I actually checked out safecrackers probably not too long after I wrote this comment. I really enjoyed it. I wasn't into the scene way back when but I was aware of it. So it was cool to see that people are doing what they can to preserve it. Good work man! Thanks again.
