    Think of it--you may be the only person to ever review Meatloaf Rotation.

      There definitely needs to be a bigger meatloaf rotation scene on UA-cam. It's an underrated classic.

    You were awfully lenient on the atgames flaming trash pile. But at the end of the day, I suppose it makes for an easy plug and play experience for those who don't want to bother with anything else.
    That being said, I sadly don't have any high hopes for the Genesis mini. Atgames time and time again has proven their incompetence in emulation quality as well as their underhanded practice of inflating the game count with their built in game nonsense.
    I still really liked the video though. Those comparison shots with the actual hardware running the hdretrovision cable were great. Couldn't help but notice that maybe the video was a bit too bright though.

    • @RetroTechSelect
      @RetroTechSelect  6 років тому

      Haha I noticed that as well during the editing. Sure enough, the brightness nob had gotten cranked on my iScan Pro xP I would have gone back to recapture footage, but the A/V out on my model 1 decided to die on me during filming. I've since picked up a Model 2 and plan on repairing my Model 1 in a future video.

    As usual, great job on the comparison. I pass the ATgames at my local target all of the time lately, but it's a downgrade to my Genny with HD Retrovision cables or even a Retron 5. I notice that you have the same Samsung LTP1545X that I have. I've been looking for some good calibration settings for it, have you had any luck with that?

    • @RetroTechSelect
      @RetroTechSelect  6 років тому

      I haven't had any luck finding recommendations for best settings on the Samsung. I'll let you know if I find anything. I've just tinkered around with the "normal" preset until I'm relatively happy. If you have one of those old THX discs that used to come with DVD players, that should give you a pretty spot on calibration. If you do get yours fine-tuned, send the numbers my way!

    I wonder do the games play and sound the same using a cartridge

    • @RetroTechSelect
      @RetroTechSelect  3 роки тому

      I suppose it would really depend on the ROM they have loaded onto the system. Some of the footage from this video were games being played off of the cart, and the emulation just isn't great.

    I can crap on this little console all day. But how would I make it better? Improve the sound I mean. Fix

    I have a 2016 model and played it to hell and back. It's a nice system to get a feel for the Genesis, like a gateway drug, then move onto real hardware or better emulation on say a retropie/raspberry pi. That 2016 model had Streets of Rage trio and Eternal Champs, plus it introduced me to Jewel Master and Fatal Labyrinth, two games I had to add to my cart collection. At 25 bucks, you didn't get ripped off. I recently picked up a newer edition, the 2018 classic at Family Dollar, and the effin thing has save states for the rpgs and stereo sound. It was 35 dollars. Still dont feel ripped off. If you gotta game on the cheap there ain't many options that give you two somewhat shoddy controllers included.

      So many different versions of this game console, 1 title retrobit and atgames firecore 20 in 1 and a Hyperkin/atgames , 1 label Mortal Kombat and this most be the 2016 version ?

    will Sega send Brazil sound chips that actually work?
    That's the big thing, also it'd be great if they left off the "and more"

    Basically you get what you pay for. Its a low cost low quality emulation

      I can't complain too much, because I got it even cheaper than intended second-hand. I had a great time making this video.

    I bought the 2016 model at the local dump for $7 ($5 for the unit, AV cable and power adapter, $2 for the only wireless game pad I could find for it.) The visuals look surprisingly good on my Sony Trinitron CRT for composite video, it's very close to my real Sega consoles when using composite mode. It can't hold a candle to S-Video mode though, it's far crisper. The sound is another story, it's hot garbage. None of the games I tried sounded even close to bearable.
    I'd say it's probably OK for the average gamer that wanted to play old Genesis games on a budget if you can find it for $20 or less. A few of the games on this unit are actually very expensive to acquire individually so its a cheap way to check them out. Streets of Rage 3 is one of the more rare and expensive games because it didn't see a wide US release. I remember back when it was released in 1994, it took me 6 months to find a USED copy of the game to buy. Hell, even renting it was hard because people were stealing the game from all of the local rent shops by label swapping with a cheaper game like Sonic Spinball. I had to go to half a dozen rental shops to find a not label-swapped stolen copy of the game to play.
    I'm glad I kept all of my old gaming consoles over the years, the vintage computer and gaming craze has driven the cost of old stuff to ridiculous levels.

      Very cool. A lot of those funky composite artifacts disappear on a CRT :)

    I have a 2014 version with a different game list, sound issues aside this console plays fine enough for emulation with actual wired controllers, it plays the Jurassic Park game carts just fine, until I get an actual model 1 this will do, along with the new Genesis mini but the cartridge slot is what keeps this in my collection for now. Haven't tested t2 the arcade game yet on it but I'm hopeful it'll play fine, sounds like I've got some gaming to try later! Happy holidays!

    I just picked one up, it came with only 1 controler but it was an real sega 3 button. Paid $14.99. In my opinion the controler was worth that and i got a bunch of free games and a mini system that can play actual carts.

    • @RetroTechSelect
      @RetroTechSelect  3 роки тому

      An actual 3-button Sega controller certainly adds to the value at that price!

      Definitely not. Might as well just hang on to it. Selling one would be near impossible.

    I bought this before I really knew anything about video games at all, thinking it was just a genesis, so I had no idea what I was getting into lol.
    My sister and I played every game and had a great time, so for me it was totally worth it.
    But now I wonder if the reason some of the games were so damn difficult was because of the console itself

    Does it have widescreen?? Does it have save states??
    and Does it play Virtual Racing?...

    • @RetroTechSelect
      @RetroTechSelect  5 років тому +1

      That'll be a no, no, and a likely no ;)
      This thing is fairly devoid of features. AtGames released a revised model with HDMI that was a little more feature rich, but I would recommend pre-ordering Sega's official Mini console if you really need a tiny Genesis in your life. Alternatively, the Mega SG is probably the best way to play anything early Sega - ua-cam.com/video/gDPFtY7l57I/v-deo.html Check it out!

      At that price, it's hard to say no. I'm almost sold on the PS Classic. $30 will be the sweet spot for me :)
