+james cleary Hey James. Yeah now that I have a OK capture card I might do more of these. I picked up two other homebrew NES games as well so why not. To cold for beer man we just hit November ha. Sounds good man
+Cross Chop yeah I use to work at a movie theater so it was cool that they included. Especially that you go into a mall than the movie. That is prob at least familiar to all kids ha
Halloween Homebrew, awesome! :) This game definitely gives a River City Ransom vibe with Johnny's sprite and his fists of fury. I like that the poster in Johnny's room is from Maniac Mansion. And the movie theater posters are a very nice touch. Great attention to detail. ;) Great review! I'll have to check out the links you left soon. :)
+RPGtourguide awesome I didnt even notice that Maniac Mansion poster ha. yeah there are so many nods to gaming in it. Its def a fun play though. I will be doing a live stream or lets play of it soon as well
+CartridgeCanuck sorry for the super late reply. Hope you ordered a copy or at least will get one by next October. Its super fun to play through, as you can tell from the video ha
Russ Lyman Huh... I was going to guess New York because, from what I've heard, the NES was only in New York City in October of 1985 (the same time it was released in America) and that our main hero in this game that happened to be a super early costumer. It wouldn't be until around early 1986 when the NES started to spread around other countries. Thanks for the info, though.
+Uh1GO 11Kbeta I mean I still paid $50 for the game, so they didn't pay me to say good things I just really enjoyed the game and had fun talking to the creators at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo
ok! I believe you! I liked the details they put in it too. It's just the way you said things that made it sound like a pub. I intend to buy a copy too.
nah I hear you, it was just hard to find bad things about it. The most I would say is the $50 price tag. Most home-brews are around $30-35, but they said it cost a lot to start up and they didn't use donor carts
Yes the price is a bit high and or that pricetag, I don't want to be able to beat the game in one sitting !! :) I'm glad to know that they didn't used donor carts. For me, NES is the best era of gaming and these homebrews are greatly welcome! and IMO, They worth their 35-50$ way more then new PS4 games as weird as it can sound.
Umm i'm not trying to ruin anybody's fun, but there is a couple things i don't like about this game. The graphics are good, but it's hard to tell what is a platform and what is a background object, which can result in some unfair deaths. Also, I think the final boss is kinda cheap.
Dude I am right there with you. Especially in the Mall level I could never tell where I could actually stand. It just takes a lot of trail and error. They did improve this a little bit on the sequel of the game
Thanks for the review dude! I made the tunes for this game 😎
+Thomas Cipollone awesome man. Love the pause music ha. But seriously the music is great and I'm really happy I picked this game up
Damn, that's actually a really cool looking game. Nice review.

+RetroGamingTube 85 awesome yes its def a keeper with lots of replay value. I'll prob do a lets play soon with it

The environments in that game look fun; the movie theater section is a nice touch!
+Cross Chop yeah I use to work at a movie theater so it was cool that they included. Especially that you go into a mall than the movie. That is prob at least familiar to all kids ha

Wish I had an extra couple hundred to pick up these Homebrews in Portland. But, alas, I'll have to order them soon! Sweet review, Russ!

...I suppose this takes place in New York City?
+Pixelcitizen I talked to the guys who made the game at PRGE and they are from Philly so it takes place there, they said. But pretty close guess

hey the other guy who did a review on this! haha yea I liked the game a lot. werewolf was a bitch though
+LuciousShowcase heck yeah man. I got stuck on that guy for a good few tries ha.
That's more of a publicity than a review.

I def hear you on that. I mean new NES games back than were like $60 thats like over $100 in todays market with inflation and what not.

@@RussLyman Nah i'm done with this game. i beat it and that's the end of that. I'm more interested in playing the sequel now.
