Other than them kicking down Ray and Debra's door at the beginning, the writers could have written an actual regular scene of Frank and Marie in any episode of the show with those *exact lines* and it wouldn't have been any exaggeration at all. Frank and Marie's impressions of Ray and Debra, on the other hand, *were* exaggerated. This show really knows how to take a special promise and make it hilarious!! A lot of sitcoms trying so hard to be creative ( friends, Seinfeld, Big Bang theory, and etc). This show should be the blue print for today’s current shows. I’m glad I gave this joint a chance 😂

It's not that Frank and Marie crossed the line between good natured parody and honest-to-God ridicule, they did it seamlessly, as if they tip-toed over the line. Robert relishes the ridicule with manaical laughter. I mean, who laughs like that with eyes open? A really sick puppy, that's who.
I don't think they crossed a line. Ray and Debra even encouraged them to do their own skit, and after they saw it, they were embarrassed. Marie and Frank knew they were toxic as a couple and as individuals and didn't give a crap. Ray and Debra saw themselves as more mature when in reality, they were also dysfunctional.

She's never been able to deal with the fact that there is another woman in his life that makes him happy and loves him. 90% of maries criticism on deb is completely uncalled for tbh. When Robert accuses Ray and Debra of being too sensitive and not able to take a joke, they pretend that they can. Robert makes them realize that when Debra and Ray did it was fun, but that doesn't make what Marie and Frank did a planned counterattack on them. Frank and Marie say that all the things Debra and Ray described were hysterical and true and they show that they are able to laugh at themselves. After Marie and Frank leave, Ray and Debra start fighting over their insults to each other.
