Great video, I can remember when my life was hectic, now I'm retired living with my puppy and have plenty of time to bonsei, and I'm so grateful to have bonsei to keep me busy. Keep the video's coming, very enjoyable...

Thanks Ralph! I’m sure one day I will miss it, but there are times (especially during Covid, when this was filmed) when it all seems impossible. Thanks for the kind words!

I feel your pain with both the time crunch and the disaster. Little girls are very demanding. And the dog loves to chase sticks, especially those sticks I planted because the pots are a bonus toy.
Anyway, well done. I like the layout and I hope the little trees make it. Do keep us updated. 👍🏻

Thanks Leigh! Strangely, the little guys look better than the big guys at this point (over a month later). Lots of new growth...hopefully not just dying in slow motion!
How’s your stuff? Staying strong? Growing well? Keeping drunk? K that last one was for you, but send over some pics.
      Cheers

Boston Bonsai Idiot its out your control now so hopefully the growth evens out throughout the season. I'll send you some updates, lots of growth so far and much fewer fatalities than usual!

After watching lots of “pro bonsai” videos it’s refreshing to see an everyday dude having a go, like me. Love the comedy, the pros take themselves too seriously.

Bro, based on your name alone, you are now my new favorite UA-camr ever. Seriously though yeah that was the whole point, sharing the journey, as painful as it may be, from absolute beginner to...wherever I end up. We shall see...thanks for the comment! The Idiot abides!!

Mark here great video!👍 It happens to all of us in the Bonsai world bro it is what it is we just to push on !🤘

Yo Mark! Yeah, of all my bonsai failures, this one felt like the biggest kick in the balls to date. Like I did everything right (or at least satisfactory), and nature came along and said “nope.” Trees look ok today though, so hopefully they made it. Cheers man, stay safe.

@@BostonBonsaiIdiot I hear ya bro in March I pulled my trees out of Dormancy thinking it was safe enough first month of spring put them back outside and then what happens to more cold fronts hit and I lost three trees it sucks sometimes man ! But what can you do you win some you lose some! Lol.

Carmie T damn, sorry man...hopefully nothin too valuable. That’s the classic dilemma though, for any gardener really: when to start? That’s why I try to stick to hardier stuff and avoid tropicals, because I know Boston would eat them alive!

Great video 👍🌲 - love your editing and style. I too share in nap 💤 time bonsai time warp crunch. I usually have 2 hours so that makes it a little more manageable. I think the forest looks great. Keep posting more videos as I’m slowly making my way through them all, giving them all likes. You rock keep up the bonsai.

Finally, a brother in naptime bonsai! Two hour naps...ahhh, I remember those. Enjoy it while it lasts, because they start shrinking, slowly, so as to drain your life essence, and all hope, for any sense of autonomy. BUT what the hell am I talking about...I'm a little "snockered" (I assume that's Canadien for "drunk?"). Cheers man, thanks for the kind words. Literally working on another horrible video as I type this so stay tuned. Do us all a favor and keep digging those amazing yamadori. Quick question: what is that land and how do you have permission to get out there? I need some sort of yamadori farm and have no idea how to find it.
      Thanks again!

Thank you! I think I've lost one small one in the back since the forest was created but overall growing well and in serious need of a major prune.
      Cheers and thanks!

How the hell did you do that in an hour!!!!! lol. It looks good though.... Also, Ive had that disaster happen to at least 7 of my trees this spring alone. You would think it would prompt me into wiring trees into pots already, but no. Anyway, all the trees have survived. even the one that ended up about 1 metre away from its pot somehow, so hopefully yours will be okay

Back Garden Bonsai so you leave play tents out overnight as well? Honestly though when you have young kids you get very good at rushing everything. It’s a miracle I’m able to keep these trees alive at all. I did end up wiring a couple of them together when I repotted it, but only because I couldn’t get them straight again, not to secure them to the pot. It’s been over a month and they look ok...growing, even. Hope it’s not their just last gasp. Just have some apple rust fungus to take care of and I’ll start fertilizing soon!

Boston Bonsai Idiot I think the wind on its own up turfed a few. The dog definitely brushed past and knocked into one or two and I think my dad and nephew clipped the others. Ive had foxes, squirrels, cats and birds in the past give me trouble. It sounds like your juniper is doing okay so far which is good to hear. Hopefully it keeps pushing out new growth 👍

Back Garden Bonsai I feel like no matter what you do, there will be casualties. One of the rare blessings/ curses of working from home is that I sit next to the window where I can stare at the trees all day. As a result, I’ve become insanely protective, namely against the god damn squirrels who dig in the pots, seemingly just for sport. A homemade slingshot has helped with deterrence but my productivity has plummeted.

Who ever said gardening is great to de-stress obviously isn't a parent😂
I was wondering would oil-dry be any use as part of a bonsai soil mix, used to use it in the garages in the mine where I worked, wicked absorption properties. How do you find it? Reduces the amount of times a week you need to water significantly I'd say.

    • @BostonBonsaiIdiot
      @BostonBonsaiIdiot  4 роки тому +2

Yes! I read in some forum a while back that Napa makes the absorbent preferred by the bonsai nerds (I think because of the particle size), so me being me I just got whatever i alternative I could find on amazon. Those happened to be Oil-dry and Floor Dri. One is calcine clay and the other is diatomaceous earth. I use them interchangeably and honestly I’m not observant enough to know if one is better than the other...but the price is right!
      Thanks for the watch!

Boru06 ha! Yeah, I think once you’re out, best to just stay out. It just gets in the way of bonsai, as well as some other less important things!
