- I spent way too long on this...
Subtitles available!
The Roblox game engine is not very good, but what it lacks is made up for in what you receive.
Every game is hosted for free on the Roblox servers and intended for multiplayer games.
You will get much fewer headaches when it comes to multiplayer as a new developer compared to other problems, BUT:
- Roblox is very inefficient (worse performance for fewer assets loaded)
- The work environment is not very intuitive (though it does have a lot of tools to make up for that)
- Third bullet point with more interesting problems
I heard most don't read descriptions, but since you have, you might as well like and subscribe too.
Follow along with the game dev journey, make your own game!
Have a pretty cool day.

I am a Roblox Dev since 3 years , believe in yourself and dont be dissapointed if you fail , at least you learned from it
How did you get started I’m having trouble finding my way especially in the scripting side
@@raygun9301 YT tutorials is best best way to start
nuh uh
@@MarcelR-fz2jn
@@MarcelR-fz2jn UA-cam tutorials is a no, devforum is a no, the only way is to play around with code and read offical roblox tutorials.
Yeah Failure is the key to learn everytime you fail you learn from it.
Nice to see more roblox devlogs pop up on youtube, great work!
Ikr devkogs going crazy
Man, I absolutely love what your doing, I've never seen a roblox devlog before let alone an actually good idea
I love.. everything. Everything about the video, your personality, the skill, the explanation. Well done, have to say! I will be looking out for the rest of this series
This is an amazing start! I'm a fellow roblox indie developer too, so I really respect the work your putting into this. If I were you, I'd try scripting a biome mechanic, so that the map doesnt feel as unnatural and random like a lego box. You could also make it so that each biome can spawn with a random color variation to add more life to the maps.
That looks incredible so far! If you have the energy, you could add regions of the map that have summer, autumn, winter and spring. That'd make the map look far more interesting, for the selection you could try experimenting with Highlights (they're still in beta iirc), they'll give an outline to whatever you're selecting.
PS: I also love tea, I'm drinking one right now
its great that ur making a game thats different from what is usual. its looking great, looking forward to part 2!
I'll be following your journey from now on! As a fellow roblox dev, I wish you good luck!
Hopefully this game goes well for you! I’ve been on Roblox for 6 years and been developing for 4, and I have to say this is a great start for this game, good luck!
Don't give up! you're an inspiration to me, as I've always wanted to make a game but was unable to script.
Nice video! One of the most important factors to a game's success is the marketing so making a youtube series is a very good idea!
Wow, i love the editing, and the game also looks nice! I'll be watching your future devlogs.
The game really looks good and the idea is really amazing and fun, cant wait for it to release and follow on your journey
love the game so far. its unique love it keep going!
good luck bro! just started my journey of building a game as well. At the design phase now while still trying to learn to script. Was gonna maybe hire a scripter down the road but not sure yet. But good luck on your game!
Never give up, dont listen to people that say your going to fail
Looks really good so far, I can't wait for the next video! Keep up the work bro!
I can't wait to see how this devlog series turns out
Wow your first video blew up good job the game is insane
Yo this is sick already, I'm planning on doing my own devlogs soon but as I'm just an amateur at coding it won't be as good as yours. Anyways can't wait to see episode 2 of this and seeing how the final product turns out in the future!
great video! i think a topic for the next video could be different types of units & how to unlock them. good luck with this!!
keep up the good work, i'd love to see how well this does
Respect for the effort you put in creating the game ;)
Nice job! I've been doing studio for a while and even I can't script that good!
i'm a new subscriber, this is the first vid I'm watching of your content, and I'm really excited to see your game progress.
Looks awesome! Keep doing devlogs, don't worry about negative feedback. I think more ROBLOX creators should be doing them!
if you want your game to get popular, i'd recommend you to start with a simplified version of your game so that you can see if people like your game concept and if they do, you can build up from there
you made agame before?
Of course! I am starting with all the necessary mechanics first, then the ones that make my game unique, and finally things like cosmetics and polishing which you don’t really need

@@FrowningWind213 OK.
Can't wait for this game to come out, it's gonna be fire
I see a great developer in the future, nice video also I'm a new subscriber!
Don't give up and always try hard.💪
Love it, can't wait for it to release, you got this!
lovely devlog, good luck and dont give up, i will say that roblox takes alot of your income, like 30%, and after that you need to dev ex it to real money which has a terrible exchange rate.
I Hope that you didn't stop on one video I loved your video please make a new one i love watching devlogs to keep me motivated on my passion project
Dev for 5-6 years currently. You're doing great. Good job.
Really nice video man and really nice work :D , and here's an ideawhat if you add random tiles with animals spawn and add a hunger system too, that depends on how many "soldiers" you have
Awesome to see more roblox devlog content on yt, keep it up
Yo bro this is amazing! I know I’m a little late but if you keep this up you’ll be big one day. I also make roblox games, just a lot more simpler than this (in code). I’m probably too late but maybe something you could do for the tiles is see like the “history” of them. Like who controlled it and when they lost/won it. :)
Really good stuff man I like the vibe of this video!
I also wanna be a roblox indie developer, but I keep stopping due to not know much about codes.. But yours is starting to get well so far! Better then mine lol
This looks awesome and I love the idea, keep going
This is pretty cool, I'm also a developer and my first full game was a sword fight game. It was really fun to make and I think you would enjoy that concept too!!!😎
Great first start!
Amazing video ! I'm confident that your game will be fire !
this is going to be a good game unlike those money making ones, keep up the work! you could make biomes and group each tile, looking forward to the end result!
I have a feeling that this guy will become big
We will watch your journey with great interest
next video is out
Nawwwh this guy is so underrated. Heres a pieace of advice Deving comes with stress especially indie deving. so if that happens take a break, dont be sad if your game flops because roblox sucks with game recommending, Just create games with an unique idea. Another thing make sure when creating new games put them in a testing phase for feedback it would HIGHLY HIGHLY make the game better chance to be better, get on the home page and successful. Goodluck on your journey, and make sure to remember failure is the key to success.
so cool, continue pls and post this game when it's done.
Good stuff, keep it up!
it looks really nice, you should keep going
There is a highlight instance so if you just clone that to the part client-sided it will do the same as your own highlight. cool video btw
I'm glad to see more people making games on Roblox but like, actually making them and not using freemodels, keep up the good work!
ikr everybody just grabs a free model and says they made it or makes an entire game out of it.
@@Ducky-zz2gjthey need to face the reality, taking free assets from the toolbox or UA-cam and calling it theirs won’t get them far
@@boppertheone that is very true
to be fair, if you make your models, and then copy and paste script tutorials, you're just as bad
@@ugh8460 your half right, people will just copy and paste tutorials without learning, and some do, you never know what the average human is up to.
I’ve been a developer for a decently long time and I love to see other aspired developers. I can’t wait to see what you will achieve
can you teach me lua, or know any good websites to learn from ?
@@0weenie DevKing and the Devforum. Also Roblox documentation. And if anything I recommend that you practice maths like simple vectors.
It’s cool because now I now lua, I can start learning any other languages and make other projects out side of Roblox like some robotics stuff
Lastly I’d say record everything you do and back up every file, it’s easy to lose data
@config8640 Thank you so much. Your guidance gave me a good idea/help 👍
you will go very far
an idea i have is to have the ability for people to fight using their character and their units, once you get to that part. best of luck 👍
I think your game is going to be amazing!! (+1 follow I absolutely don't want to miss anything). I thought I would be a Roblox dev but in the end I'm not so sure, I still have to watch tutorials that show us how to make a game😂😂. When the next episode will be released plsss
Nice video!👍 Btw you can also use selection box instead of making your own one but it's up to you tho 😀
Unity: Vector3.normalized:
Roblox Studio:
I'll take 3 hours of your life.
I need more XD this is so good
I love the game so far! I think you should use a Highlight instance for highlights though instead of a box
Bro how you have 752 subscribers because i said it your making so good videos and trying so hard and you have to have million sub love you.
Nice game! Its original, its a strategy game and it optimized for other devices! I'd like to see troops (like you mentioned) like a sniper that can only go on cliffs or something.
I love it! 💚
I am so invested please upload part 2.
Working on it!
I have a recommendation - you may have used parts for the selection box for a specific reason but a better option is to use “Highlights”, idk if there is still a limit on them but a very viable and versatile option. Hope this goes well!
Cant wait to watch the next devlogs!
subscribed :)
the sequel is out
Yeah, I get not being a “cashgrab” but you gotta have real good monetization if you wish to continue development and be further boosted by the algorithm. Hope the project works good!
Yo this is actually pretty cool
tbh bro, with that code u had there, if u continued working on it, u could make like a simulator of making your own city like skylines, with the tiles u had, etc, adding GUIs to let people spend game money to buy a tile that has buildings or roads on it, etc, theres so many ideas to do w that
I'd recommend using a selectionbox instead of parts for the selected tile, and also having a thinner selectionbox for whatever you're hovering over
I am going to 100% play this game when its out!
I hope your game becomes popular
as a fellow roblox dev i tip my hat to you (: Edit: the only tip i have for you is that it would be nice to see some more variation in the tiles like have mountains/trees in different places on the tile, have some tiles rotated and/or scaled.
Good man
Good job!
Ideas:
toggle player visibility(so in case you don’t want your player model or another person’s player model in the way of your view
Desert, snow, and swamp biomes
That’s all I got, can’t wait to see what this becomes
Hey! You can try voxel terrains using 3 dimensional perlin noise; that makes you can generate caves and different biomes using differen perlins for each.
definitely continue this!
this man is gonna be so successful, just give him some time
no way u made custom captions
the goat
Great video! I suggest u to make a smaller map, spread each block a little farther away from eachother. And add some kind of characters.
I'm working on the next video and that's the next thing I made!
@@CupOfTeanice, you have better than ive ever done
something you could do is make specialized terrain, so mountains come in ranges and forests are look very large, making variations of the tiles could also make it look a bit better (imo)
Damn bro that’s sick how did you get so good
bro cooked but forgot to finish the meal
Innit
exactly 😭
I don’t know if you have already done this but making the tiles cluster in a specific area could make it feel more organic
You go man.
Good luck Mr cuppa
Add a slidbar where you can choose troops and add buy them and also at the start of the game add a tutorial for new players and add nations like in ww1 or ww2 either way you can choose your nation
This is really cool
This seems awesome + 1 sub
I suggest when clicking on an object you can add the Highlight object rather than making your own. Saves on performance
dude made this banger and just forgot his password
Thats so awesomeee
i think there's a function that converts the mouse's position on screen to an ingame position, & also selects objects that the mouse hovers over w/o using raycasts.
obviously raycasts are probably better, since every time you let roblox do its own hitscanning it sucks balls, but i used roblox's builtin mousepos variable when making a similar system to your tile selection thing and it worked just fine
Very well done, it already looks good. But what if instead of having your camera at the top view, you're instead going togive the camera an angle so that you can see the models better. If your camera is perpendicular to the ground, you will not see the depth perception of your map/models very well. Everything else looks nice. We want more!
I will try it out!
Great job!
super cool!
i feel like you should add more types of terrain block for mountains trees and plains just to make it more diverse
"by looping in a loop" -CupOfTea
For me, i would really enjoy if you added a special unit like a tank or something that has a resistance and weakness
You should try noise generation for the grid; who knows, it might look cooler :)
