The Deluxe Strat is so well made and feels good in your hands, i fell in love with it immediately, and it is capable of so many more tones than any of your other guitars, even though each does have its own sound for different styles, great collection man, i envy you.
A great comparison. Great sound quality. Amazing that the internet enables the world to share such things and discuss them. I have a strat, but the Les Paul,,,,hmmmm...sounds great
i got a fender starcaster but im hoping to get a epiphone les paul someday!never quit playing all u guys out there and metebelis u rule!!!les paul 4ever!!!!!
Well thanx - I played bass guitar live once in school 27 years ago - but since then no public performance. So amateur and hobbyist are good descriptions of what I do.
to be truly objective, I would have to say that each of those sounds lends itself to a particular need in music, so I say all their differences are great and I'm glad they have them :-)
TY for the comment. I always advise - buy the most expensive you can because if you are really serious about guitar you eventually will NEED the very best equipment. I recommend the marshall jvm 410 or vox ac30. As for the prs - my wife bought it for me - great guitar but i really want the 513 and maybe 1 day ill get it.
I agree - go with the guitar you are happy with. Cheaper guitars can often sound great. However since we as individuals judge guitars by how they sound and play it follows that some of us prefer to go with the more expensive options. Personally I believe I can tell the difference between my guitars both in terms of sound and feel. I often switch guitar depending on what I am playing because I know another guitar is better suited to that song.
For an amateur (like me), you have nice intonation and feel. The Tele sounds sweet. And the LP has a nice bite. The others sound great, but those two are my faves. Yer givin' me bad G.A.S., dude! :-)
The tremolo on the deluxe isn't a free floating floyd rose, but the perk of that is you don't have to change strings one at a time to prevent the entire tremolo to snap back and possibly break something, also you can tune the entire guitar much faster because it this allows it to have a regular nut, not a locking nut. in other words the fender's tremolo makes it much less in maintenance.
i'm really digging your tele lol and i like how you say this is just a hobby and u have 5 great guitars. well at this point it might be more than a hobby
To all Les Paul Guys. You must checkout Seymour Duncan's pickup called a StagMag. It is basically two single coils put together. You can use a push/pull pot to get a true single coil sound and in the humbucking mode it has a sweet snap to it that les pauls generally lack. Check it out.
I hope you agree that even my humble squier strat has a personality, I have only discovered music at 50 and my strat(1996)has been around, but to me she has a amazing tone for a chinese guitar.
The Deluxe Stratocaster (also known as Strat - lol) is the guitar I play the most but the reason I have all the other guitars is because they all sound and play different and I often feel the need to change from 1 to the other. So I have no firm preferences yet but that may change when I get the next guitar - a Rickenbacker 360!
That is through a Zoom GFX - 5 and a Alesis Multimix into monitor speakers. On previous videos I have recorded the guitars and then mixed the music in n-track then pasted the track over the video. Not possible this time because there are too many video clips so I had to mike the speakers.
I'm a 100% PRS fan...but as far as this video goes the Tele sounds GREAT. I own a Gibson Les Paul Studio, PRS McCarty Soapbar, PRS Tremonti Signature, and a few others and it's honestly hard to compare all of them because they all have they're own distinct characteristics. Overall however PRS takes the cake for tone, craftsmanship and versatility. GO PRS!!
I have to agree with Edgarsterling I to am a tele guy . the les paul is the better sounding of all the clips presented. but also it is all preferance. thanks for the vid.
I like gibson for the "toggle swith" that allows quick switching between volume controls- but I think the Strat has a really nice sound as well... I'm gonna go with Strat, however
I've got a Gibson Les Paul Standard in heritage cherry sunburst. Great guitar! Can do anything from jazz to death metal. Its got a nice deep warm sound thats great for rhythm and lead. And Idk why people keep saying they dont stay in tune because mine always does. Get a les paul!
@Johngtr13 I agree. These examples, as fun as the playing is, don't really exploit any legitimate differences in the guitars. I'd like to see a test of these five guitars that involves tone and pickup settings.
I have to agree with you man, I have played all these guitars except for the tele, the deluxe is such a sweet guitar, all the way around. I wish he played it the same style he did with the LP, that is the only reason the majority of people voted for the LP is because he played it sweet compared to the others. it's a rockin guitar though and still love them, they look ugly as sin though lol.
The strat sound is clear, sweet and tipical for sigle coil pickup. The Les Paul is more agresive hot and deeper, both guitar are so good in diferent music style.
To me the Strat just shits on all of them but if you were to ask me if i would play all of them i'd be a lier if i said no... i think we can all agree on that. Great Job man
2 different strats are used in the video.. an "american" strat (labelled "strat") and a n "american deluxe" HSS fat strat (labelled "stratocaster") obviously there's some difference between them (mainly pickups).
the flying V has less wood in it than most electrics but is still quite thick which is good for the high notes but means the lows will have a lot of grumble
Great posting...really wish more people would show things in this way. Makes perfect sense so thanks...although...are you using a real amplifier or is that through some computer interface? Thanks for posting anyway...
the shape of a guitar has a big effect on the sound the guitar produces as does the type of wood in the guitar. For example: It is easier to get good sustain from a solid-body guitar than a hollow-body. Some people say that the shape and wood of a guitar defines the sound more than the pickups. (I'm not one of those people)
It is quite difficult to record good quality sound on to a video without filming the video and recording the sound seperately and then overlaying them. Recording direct from an camera microphone does produce lower quaility sound. My latest video - Vox ToneLab LE and Stratocaster 1 - shows the difference between the 2 methods.
depends what music i mean a tele is better for the faster paced bluesy stuff because of its sharper tone whereas the strat is more suited to the slower more melodic blues with more fepth and feeling. and a les paul is for really deep stuff with those hummers on it.
Boy the tele sounded really good. The SE was horrible sounding. Les Paul was good. I think the QMT Strat had the best of both the big humbucker sound, without being to over powering. Gotta love the roller-nut. I have finally purchased a couple of Custom Shop Fenders with roller nuts, and you can dive bomb and everything without a locking nut, very cool. I like the licks btw. Good job!!
I like the way you do your comparisons, but as a relative novice to electrics, I wish that comparisons like this showed the headstock better, at least at at the beginning, so it's easier to tell which is which, especially when the bodies are similar in style. Thanks
LP and PRS, both sounded sweet. You seemed to be playing much better on the LP though, good work anyway thx, wanted to know the difference between these guitars. Humbuckers > Single coil
Gota go with the Tele on this one...just can't beat it for this kind of playing. It definately has a "southern" accent, and I think that comes off good on blues type music.
Anyone that can play that well, can make anything sound good. i would like to see all these( experts )tell which is which if they couldnt see what was playing?
It's hard to comprare em a lot, since you could set the amp for a strat, and make it sound great, or you could do the same with any guitar. It depends on the song too. A lot of times, the start will sound good doing EC, but you can't beat a les paul for rock (rockrock).
Hey dude great playing but sound quality made it so i really cudnt tell the full tones of each guitar, if you post anymore videos like this please let me know. My only other problem is, are you using the bridge pickup for each? and these are all really different guitars, u shud use the standard for each company, fend american strat, gibson les paul studio, and still the SE custom, but i really like your playing and im thinking of gettin a strat and your playing has proved strats rule! ROCK ON!!
i have considered sanding down the finish on 1 of my guitars but i was scared to ruin the look the only guitar i would be willing to do that to is my ibanez but lets face it there's no point in trying to get a smooth sound out of a guitar made for metal. But i always thought it would be interesting to hear the resulting sound
I think he is saying the first Paul Reed Smith's were hand luthiered by Paul.. It would only make sense that those few sounded better, although I can't confirm, since I'v never played one.
lp or esp/dean guitars for agressive like metallica. if u want just a little distortion then ya go for the strat. but lp in general is a good guitar, like aleharfouche says. it can be used to play from classical to thrash metal. but if you are just going to stick to one genre go for strat or dean/esp guitars
i am looking to get a new guitar...i used to play a while ago but i think im ready to start again and i want a new guitar to get back into it...looking at American Strat/American Dlx Strat/American HSS Strat/ American HSS Dlx Strat/ Gibson Les Paul Studio....so confused :(
each from those guitars has their own style, their does and dont's. wish you would all know these guitars are all made for their own style. but thats nots the question. Give me the strat and tele: i love them, after that my SG, ES339 and Martin Dx1 :)
I have a tele and I love it. Although I hear a les paul is great, I just cant see myself wanting to every play one over my tele. Probably because my tele does everything I want it to and some.
les paul sounds better here because the tone of all of them is really tinny, and les pauls have a deeper bass response. may have come out different on a different amp setup. having said that,my guitar is an lp jr and it kicks ass.
I beg to differ, the P.R.S. played here is appears to be of the same price level as the Fenders and the GIB. And was clearly and fairly put in its place. That Paul and the Tele are the best tones for the money here.
For me I really like the PRS and the LP, the PRS seems to have a nice bite to it. The strat just seems a bit too quack-y for my taste, and im not quite sure what it is about the tele..

I was going to say I thought the Strat suited your playing the best but then I heard you on the Les Paul. That suits you even more.
That American Deluxe HSS looks and sounds sweet. Nice playing!
+1. I like all four guitars; but I've been always a Tele lover, and this demo showed me why.
Good attitude - I always say: choosing a guitar is not a lifetime decision, it only about which one to buy first.
you've got a nice collection there!
good playing
I agree - go with the guitar you are happy with. Cheaper guitars can often sound great. That LP sounded really Gnarly.
Awesome, Love the LP and the Tele; Warm and crunchy tone!
I'm so jealous!!! That is such a great guitar to own.
For an amateur (like me), you have nice intonation and feel.
The Tele sounds sweet. And the LP has a nice bite. The others sound great, but those two are my faves. Yer givin' me bad G.A.S., dude! :-)
dude the les paul riffs were killer !!!
yeah go metebelis!!!!!!!!

You are right - I bought the good guitars before I bought the good amps and effects. This is now rectified. Check out my more recent vids.
It is not a surprise to see that mr blues band does not have any videos of his blues band
@metebelis I actually like the sound of your PRS the most. The hot sound just sounds sweet on that thing.
I hope you agree that even my humble squier strat has a personality, I have only discovered music at 50 and my strat(1996)has been around, but to me she has a amazing tone for a chinese guitar.

i've got an sz320 and btw i've got a highway 1 tele so i'm glad you find it the best sounding out of these guitars
Best comment yet!!! All you Gibson Bandwagon jumpers need to tune in.
Man, I'd take the Les Paul Platinum any day! Wait, I already have one! :) Nice slow hand licks btw!
@sonicboom1970 thats why I did the video - why not have them all. Very few people get that. Thanx.
I have to agree with you man, I have played all these guitars except for the tele, the deluxe is such a sweet guitar, all the way around. The strat sound is clear, sweet and tipical for sigle coil pickup. The Les Paul is more agresive hot and deeper, both guitar are so good in diferent music style.
the paint can also dilute the sound of a certain wood but thick plastic finishes are the worst for killing the distintive sounds of woods
of course... the people that say this crap never have any videos of their own. and he was good dude.
im happy for you that you know A riff.
I didn't mean this video to be taken as a serious competition - just a bit of fun. I agree - its all about the music.
To me the Strat just shits on all of them but if you were to ask me if i would play all of them i'd be a lier if i said no... i think we can all agree on that. Great Job man
The tele pulls of this type of music the best, hands down. Its got that blues.

heartstrummer I'm with you
@MrRichard911 yes very ! I played a concert and did rock you like a hurricain and it was amazing !
Great posting...really wish more people would show things in this way. Makes perfect sense so thanks...although...are you using a real amplifier or is that through some computer interface? Thanks for posting anyway...
Man, this is just your amateur hobby, but you already have all those badass guitars?? Then i wish to be as amateur as you:D

I now have a PRS CE22 - which you can see in my other videos. Eventually I will update this video and include the new PRS.
This video should get featured
personally i think the LP was the best... the tone and sound really gets me going!
I liked the PRS best actually; clean and very powerful sound came out of it
All guitars were awesome though
I like the way you do your comparisons, but as a relative novice to electrics, I wish that comparisons like this showed the headstock better, at least at at the beginning, so it's easier to tell which is which, especially when the bodies are similar in style.
Thanks
LP and PRS, both sounded sweet. You seemed to be playing much better on the LP though, good work anyway thx, wanted to know the difference between these guitars.
Humbuckers > Single coil
I like PRS and Les paul, i think they are very good, but it also depends on the model of the guitar. In this video, Les paul wins :D
1. LP
2. PRS
3. Telecaster
4. Strat HSS
5. Am Strat
Nicely said...
I want them all!
Gota go with the Tele on this one...just can't beat it for this kind of playing. It definately has a "southern" accent, and I think that comes off good on blues type music.
1-LP
2-Tele
3-Strato HSS
4-PRS
5-Strato 90
You were sluggin it on the HSS strat, happier with teh PRS and most happy with the LP. OBviously its down the PRS and LP, you're obvious favorites.
Anyone that can play that well, can make anything sound good. i would like to see all these( experts )tell which is which if they couldnt see what was playing?
Both - the only question is which one to buy first.
cool video to see the difference
Favorite :)

But i always thought it would be interesting to hear the resulting sound
OMG, i was just at my friends place, and he had an Ibanez guitar.
I couldnt play it at all! it doesnt feel like a Les Paul.!!!
god bless that guitar!
I think he is saying the first Paul Reed Smith's were hand luthiered by Paul.. It would only make sense that those few sounded better, although I can't confirm, since I'v never played one.
STRAT STRAT STRAT!! THE BEST!! but don't get me wrong.. i love all of those guitars tested as well.. :)
Les Paul Rocks!!
i love how he uses a generous amount of overdrive and someone complains about him using tons of distortion....
First STRAT! It was huge!
I like all of em. Everyone has characterisics that would be good for somethings and not as good for others. You have a nice arsenal of weapons there.
Some lovely guitars and some good playing. But i wouldn't be able to choose between them, i would happily own any.
Nice playing.
The Les Paul sounded line the best guitar for harder rock, but I also liked the HSS strat a lot.
LP wins it for me though.
prs are really long lasting and notoriously stay in tune so are good for gigging
lp or esp/dean guitars for agressive like metallica. if u want just a little distortion then ya go for the strat. but lp in general is a good guitar, like aleharfouche says. it can be used to play from classical to thrash metal. but if you are just going to stick to one genre go for strat or dean/esp guitars
i absolutely agree the TELE won this match, no doubt about it. smooth, warm, a littlebit dirty, chunky, versatile what more do you need?
Gosh i want all of them. But the les paul, man that thing has sound.
Love the sound of the PRS, but the Tele is so awesomee :P
i am looking to get a new guitar...i used to play a while ago but i think im ready to start again and i want a new guitar to get back into it...looking at American Strat/American Dlx Strat/American HSS Strat/ American HSS Dlx Strat/ Gibson Les Paul Studio....so confused :(

were all the guitars on the same pickup? that makes a huge difference in sound right there!!!!!
prs seems to have the best of both worlds a cross between the lp and strat with with a whammy thrown in to boot.
pretty good playing
