    Jason, I'm trying to figure out how to 'steal' your stuff for my ongoing lecture series on my UA-cam channel. We have different audiences, and your stuff has to be boiled down into a less sophisticated, more personal, story in order for me to tell it in class. My students are all bright, but I have to entertain them in order to keep them awake. Thanks. Well done. Very sophisticated.

    Hope you don't mind, but we used some of your simulation visuals in our music video...cause it's the coolest shit ever! Fantastic lecture as well :)

      You should credit the people I credit in my video. That'd be the gracious route. I have these links in the description of this video. All the best!

    Better than any other astronomy channel, have learned SOOOO much. Thanks a million. A question if I may. If one could tie a rope from one galaxy to another, what would the rope break due to the expansion of space or would the rope expand too?

    • @JasonKendallAstronomer
      @JasonKendallAstronomer  4 роки тому +1

      Good question. You assume of course that it could actually be set up. Since the expansion is a prediction of general relativity, there would be no way to do these things “simultaneously”. I.e. tie two ends to something. However presume if you could, and the rope was strong enough then it would overcome the expansion and hold them together. Just like the Local Group is falling towards the Virgo Cluster, gravity is acting like your rope here

    I never understand why gravitational lensing causes 4 spots and not a continuous shape or a ring if the target is right behind the lens. Why would it be 4 spots and not 1 blob?

    I can't wait for cosmologists to figure out what the heck dark matter is . But as far as black holes the size of ton 618 is is concerned , it's féasable that due to dark matter clumping these objects could have been the result of direct collapse of this invisible matter. 😎

    • @JasonKendallAstronomer

      It would be hard to be surprised by dark matter being a part of all this. 66G M_sun is a lot of stuff.
      One thing for sure dark matter is not made of: crabs with pocket-knives. The absence of the 891230nm line is the telltale sign for that. That line is emitted during crabs’ war-cries. However, astronomers are highly suspicious of the 891245nm emission line, because that is caused by disgruntled crabs’ claw-clicking when confronted by small obstacles blocking them from their enemies. This line is very close, however, to the 891242nm emission line of octopi watching the crabs’ proceedings from the bleachers while eating popcorn shrimp. More investigation is clearly indicated.
