- We present the Boys Invitational 3200 meter race from the 2021 Arcadia Invitational Track & Field Meet. Featuring all California athletes due to limitations imposed by health authorities during the pandemic, an amazing 15 boys broke 9:00 in the race - including four from 2019 NXN champion and distance powerhouse Newbury Park high. The video features pre and post-race comments from Newbury Park High coach Sean Brosnan and team athletes.
Junior Colin Sahlman of Newbury Park took the lead from the beginning, setting a blistering pace and pulling a group along. Sophomore Lex Young, also of Newbury, tucked in behind his teammate and matched the 66 second laps. In the middle and later laps there was some jockeying between Ajani Salcido of Jesuit, Chris Caudillo of Clovis, Sean Lacey of Bella Vista and Nolan Topper of Bellarmine for the lead of the chase pack - but none could close the 5 to 7 second gap that Sahlman and Young had created. On the final lap, Young closed on Sahlman, and coming into the final 100M made a charge that brought him almost shoulder to shoulder - but, Sahlman had another gear left and held his teammate off for a win at 8:43:42 (just 29 hundredths ahead of Young at 8:43.71). Final top 15:
1 Colin Sahlman 11 Newbury Park 8:43.42
2 Lex Young 10 Newbury Park 8:43.71
3 Ajani Salcido 12 Jesuit 8:51.32

We will eventually post additional race videos from the 2021 Arcadia Invite. Remember, 4:20's not that fast.

No one beats this announcer his energy is insane.
Tim O’Rourke is a LEGEND
Announcer lost his mind when he saw that giant pack all under 9
The “4:20 isn’t fast” killed me. I remember that interview
well it was a “its fast if you think it’s fast” and for runners running sub 4:10, it doesn’t go that well
when 4:20 is faster than my high schools record.
My guess Brosnan regretted that comment with the backlash, then tried to own it with the stickers at State.
These two guys that was in front set the rest of the field for success 🙏🏻
Newbury Park put four runners under 9-minutes in one race!!!! That is the first time in USA history that a single high school has EVER had four sub-9 two-milers
With Colin's brother, who wasn't in the race, they possibly could have had 5!
When I coached we went to Mt SAC often. As soon as we got there they would hear Tim on the loud speaker. He just lit them on fire. Their parents would drive down from 29 Palms to watch the races. They were stunned at how well their children did there.
Tim Orourke has one of the best voices in the country, the entertainment world should grab him, commercials, shows whatever.
And with track, you cant pretend like the course was just fast. This is as real as it gets
Tracks are made of different stuff so you can...but i know what you mean lol
Bro lex is only a sophomore and he ran 8:43 that’s just insane
His twin brother is also under 9 lolol
@@dobattlers not 8:43 tho
@@kanehiro4635 yeah he’s just saying how good they are as a family, he’s not trying to undermine Lex
@@dobattlers well now his twin brother holds the national highschool 3 mile LMAO 13:38 AS A JR.
@@FrankTank-dt4jm what race?
"Say screw it during the race, and push through the pain".... GOAT talk
NP has become a factory producing great distence runners.
You don't need to train in Africa or buy them to run for your country
The future of American Track and Field is alive and well. These young men are the future.
💫🏅🤞🏾
These young guys from Newbury Park are amazing. I really like the work of Colin Sahlman and the Young brothers. And Nico Young. They are all amazing. Excellent work by coach and team.
i wish all races had this announcers energy
imagine running 8:58 and still getting last what the heck
the list in the description is the people who all went sub 9/only top 15.
@@oskoreiaa11 ahhhhh ok I was like there is no way
i would love to run with Newbury Park
I wouldn’t I’d get dusted lmao
What I wouldn’t give to be as fast as the last place runner in this race

Dude had 2 guys run 4:20 back to back in this race
Man Colin built different
love the production here
the faces of joy for the ppl just breaking 9 is inspiring
Hdrunners you put on a great video, but the kids put on an awesome show.
ridiculous ... those times ... wish I could have ran that fast when I was that young.
This dudes are incredible
Team work achieving greatness! What an incredible display.
Insane speed at this age
They all have such beautiful hair
Outstanding!!
Lex has good running form!
1:48 lol
These kids are amazing!
Y does this feel like a newbury park vlog
I couldn't be mad if I came in last place bc that is still a good time
Thats insane
I can’t even run 2 back to back 66 laps let alone a whole 3200
I’ve never done that pace for 800 before but I’ve also never tried. Last time I ran an 800 was as part of a series of time trials at practice in flats where I even split a 2:20 800
Awesome video
Announcer needs a raise
How many cameras did you have to capture this coverage?
About 12.
@@hdRunners seemed like a lot of them. Great video!!!
Sometimes they have masks on, sometimes they don't. No masks on in the tent, masks on during the warm up. COVID precautions are a complete joke.
Covid is a respiratory disease allegedly. I think these gentlemen have the strongest respiratory system on the planet.
nb is goated
Jesus loves you❤️
repping the 805!!
562 is where it’s at 🤗
Gotta go fast
OHHH MMYYY
Wow
Glad I ran in the pre mask era. These poor kids. Defy the freaking masks.
