First thank you for making the video it's very helpful! I hate guessing bolt head sizes. You have to car lifted on the right side, when draining it should it be level?
glad you liked the vid. Being lifted and slightly off kilter isn't going to make an appreciable difference in how much oil you're going to out. I used to lower the car so that it was always level but like all things in life, "Time is money" and how much more oil and I REALLY going to get out by lowering it? If you're changing out 95%+ of the oil regularly I wouldn't fret about it too much.
Thank you sir for the great and informative video. I was really surprised to hear that you are from Canada, because I have moved here recently and Versa is my first car in Canada. And of course my priority is to save as much as I can and at the same time service my car the proper way. I checked CanadianTire website and found everything you talked about. Now I have a question: can I use the same conventional oil if I am not sure which oil the previous owner used? What if he used fully synthetic and I will pour this conventional oil in? What can happen? And how often do you change the gasket (the washer under the oil drain bolt)? Does it make sense to have one extra (just in case)? Can I find it in CanadianTire? Could you also advise me a good place (a store or a website) with reasonable prices where I can find autoparts for my Versa (break pads, engine motor mounts, e.t.c.) Thank you so much in advance!
@ Igor - you shoul be okay using conventional oil in you versa even if you don't know what the previous owner used. Most oil change places say that you can interchange back and forth without issue although I feel that once you make the switch you should stick with it. Going from synthetic to conventional oil isn't so much issue as it is going from conventional to synthetic. Synthetic seems to penetrate everything and can leak past seals that otherwise didn't leak. Your mileage may vary I guess. As far as parts go Canadian Tire has some fair prices when parts go on sale. If you're looking for real cheap parts then rockauto.com is good. They ship to canada but shipping is what will burn a small hole in your wallet. Drain plug bolt washer - depends in the type of washer. If it plastic like the versa I will reuse it until it starts to show signs of cracking. If it's copper I will replace it. If it's aluminum I will reuse it indefinitely until it starts to show signs of leakage. Hope that helps!
piercedasian Can you please tell me where exactly can I get the very same Oil filter wrench that you presented in your video? I wan't to buy the exact same one. If you can write down the link of whatever website you purchased it. Thanks a lot.
Yes 100% agree with you. The car previously went to the dealership for service and it never fails to amaze me at what the idiots there do to cars (I used to work for one). I once did an oil change on a diesel truck where no exaggeration, I had to use a HUGE pipe wrench to get the oil filter off. It was all twisted and mangled to the point where all that was really left was the baseplate on the oil filter threads. The oil filter must've been torqued to well over 100 ft lbs and since I don't have a lift I spent a good solid 45 minute trying to get the bastard filter off. Suffice to say that the client never went back to the dealership for oil changes ever again.
@@piercedasian I went to change my grandmas oil for her. She normally goes to jiffy lube. I couldn’t get the filter off. I had to take the car back to jiffy lube and I made them loosen it 😂😂
I have a problem disassemble the engine and appeared a coffee plastic which is like a purge control valve oil. I have the picture, it is like a nail one inch. and the head has a spiral line. can you tell me where is this piece? do not know where I came nissan sentra 20011 is a mr10de
sticking brakes would be the first place I'd look. Drive the car for 10 miles without really using the brakes and then pull over and put your hand by each wheel. The wheels should not smell burnt and shouldn't really emit any heat.
any spray on foaming engine cleaner will do a decent job of degreasing your engine BUT just be aware that most cleaners are very caustic and can damage paint if you don't do a thorough job of rinsing it down with lots of water. You're honestly probably better off just driving it to a coin op car wash and using their high pressure hot soap wand wash to clean your engine and your car. Nothing works better than hot water to clean out an engine bay.
given the choice I would go with the mobil 1 oil filter as Mobil branded filters for the most part are better made than the Fram filters. Nothing against FRAM but their extra guard series has much left to be desired as far as quality is concerned (crap). Ideally you should look into WIX or AC Delco Gold series filters as those filters are extremely well made. If you look online there was someone that did a comprehensive teardown of filters and it really is an eye opener when you see how much quality variance there can be. Hope that helps.
I picked up a Wix filter from an auto shop and returned the FRAM XG i bought from canadian tire. As I was installing the filter, I noticed i was still able to turn the filter after giving it a good hand tight, so i used the constrictor wrench to tighten it up a bit more. I did some reading and they said I might have trouble taking it off on my next oil change. Do you think it is a good idea to loosen up the filter a bit (with oil already in engine) to prevent that from happening? Thank you for your inputs so far!
don't touch the filter. If you've already cranked it down any damage you've done would've likely already been done. Threads or filters would've been stripped and you'd likely be leaking oil. Oil filters surprisingly can take a lot of cranking and still be okay so I wouldn't worry about it. Just for next time hand tight + a bit more is more than sufficient for 99% of the cars out there.... Don't fret and go enjoy driving your car! Thanks for watching!
+Robert Lenz Same exact way as how I showed it for a Honda Civic. If you search my channel for "throttle body" you find it. In any case here is the link to it: ua-cam.com/video/Mak7yeA_WtU/v-deo.html Your intake snorkel removal will be different but the general cleaning principles are the same.
hello piercedasian aim have one pronblem. whith mr18de nissan sentra 2011. aim disamble engine and one piece plastic its my problem do you help my? please
you'll need to be more specific as your engine has MANY plastic pieces thus i can't help you unless you detail what it is and what you think it might be from.
are you referring to changing the air filter and not needing to change the oil? If yes then yes of course you can change it. No dependency on each other.
yes you can change the filter and not the oil. You'll have to top off the engine oil after the filter change. I'm assuming you're running ultra long life oil such as Amsoil where it can go for more than year on a single oil change?
Not really. Its just the the previous mechanic chNge the oil without changing the oil filter. He only put the regular oil good for 6 months. And my oil filter is due for change soon. Thank u, at least i can change them separately
true that. The customer insisted I use an "economy filter" to save on costs so that's what I did. I myself personally like using WIX filters b/c they're extremely high quality.
There is no better counter-promotion for the motor oil shown - (Quaker State UD ?) if previously used as shown here... Look at the dipstick at 07:45 - 07:54 and on - is it covered with oil sludge-like substance.... That should not be there at any circumstances with a good oil and proper oil drain intervals....
Counter promotion? LOL This Versa is actually not my car and a friend of mine and admits that she doesn't change the oil as often as she should. I absolutely agree that with a quality oil and filter and proper oil change intervals that slugging should NOT occur. I would go mental if my cars had sludge on the dipstick. I haven't had issues with any quality brand oils but quality doesn't mean much if the owner doesn't change oil often.
Right. In that case it is better to make a relevant comment probably where there is a verbal note abt oil change interval - all to maintain credibility.
Copper Vadim Yes I agree. Thank you for the suggestion. I will see what I can do with this existing video and will take into consideration what you said for future ones too!
Open the oil cap first? I can't say I've ever encountered in the 25+ years of fixing cars where the engine oil filler cap was seized on. Even at the dealership where I worked never had one that was stuck on. Different story for transmission and differentials. You ALWAYS made sure you could open up the filler plug before draining it out. Made that mistake with my CRX when I first bought it and was changing the manual tranny fluid. I ended up having to yank a CV axle to fill the tranny and it wasn't until years later that I was able to pull the stripped hex plug from the transmission filler hole.
First take of the oil filler cap so the oil can flow out easily. Don't use a fram oil filter they are the worst crap you can buy. See UA-cam on how shitty they are. That oil you use is cheap junk also. Poor instruction and really poor items used.
Well for starters there is no need to take a filler cap off as the inside of an engine isn't a vacuum or devoid of free air. The FRAM filter I would agree is junk and that wasn't my preferred filter choice but the customer wanted that. The oil used is hardly junk and meets all specs that the Versa needs. I'm 99% certain that a customer isn't going to want Motul race oil in their economy daily driver.
versa looks like nissan grand livina under the hood. Thanks for the video.
Nice job--well demonstrated and explained.
Glad you like my vid. Thanks for watching.
I wish you would have shown more of you replacing the filter
it really isn't hard to do. I'm unfortunately a lone camera person so filming and doing things is challenging at best...
Great attention to detail. Perfect in every way
Thank you very much!
Thanks man because of you i was able to change my girlfriends oil today thanks again
glad you were able to service your own car. Thanks for watching!
😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
Is it possible for you to show me how to hack up my nissan versa sedan 2008 with a hydraulic jack and 2 jack stands for an oil change.
I would if could but this Versa wasn't mine and the owner has since sold it.

piercedasian Can you please tell me where exactly can I get the very same Oil filter wrench that you presented in your video? I wan't to buy the exact same one. If you can write down the link of whatever website you purchased it. Thanks a lot.
you can buy that at Canadian Tire. It is called a "Boa wrench".
I don't live in Canada, I live in the U.S.
auto zone or your pep boys and maybe even harbour freight would have something like this. Have you checked out amazon.com?
Great video.....can the same be done for a nissan 2008 AD wagon?
@ Julien RIchardson - can't say I've worked on Nissan wagon. The principle of how to change the filter is basically the same.
8000km? See the tarnish on the dip stick?
not my car and I've told the owner they can't change oil once a year or every 20, 000km in the manner that they were using the car.
You're very welcome. Feel free to share with others if you'd like!
my car is the 2008 model to this car. i need some information on how to replace the windshield washer tubing/ hose.
tubing should be fairly easy to replace. I haven't had a versa come by the garage in a long time so I couldn't even make a vid to show you. Sorry.
Same here man, my stuff leaks.
Oil filters are supposed to be hand tightened only. It shouldn’t ever be a pain to remove unless over tightened or not changed for like 10k miles

Have you changed a neutral safety switch on a 2007 Nissan Versa?
no sorry I have not but it isn't hard to do.

I'm getting awful gas mileage on my 07 versa. Anything you suggest I look at?
sticking brakes would be the first place I'd look. Drive the car for 10 miles without really using the brakes and then pull over and put your hand by each wheel. The wheels should not smell burnt and shouldn't really emit any heat.
They just don't get great mileage.
What is your view on car engine cleaner, are car cleaner any good? Abd if si can you recommend one for my nissan tiida 2008?
any spray on foaming engine cleaner will do a decent job of degreasing your engine BUT just be aware that most cleaners are very caustic and can damage paint if you don't do a thorough job of rinsing it down with lots of water. I got 2012 nissan versa with the code P0846 , can you help me and tell me what it is , Thanks for your help !!!
that is a transmission fluid pressure failure. Two things to likely resolve this. Change the tranny fluid if it has never been done and a new sensor.
Thank you for teaching me
Any time
piercedasian, what are your thoughts on Mobil 1 M1-108 vs Fram Extra Guard PH7317 and using Mobil 1 synthetic oil? Thanks.
