Clifton Powell: I'm Just As Trained As Al Pacino

In every company, every job, every field there are super-talented people who somehow, despite all logic and reason, never seem to 'break through' while dozens of mediocre people leap frog them. People you look at and say, "How is this person not at the top? In comedy, 3 names JUMP right out (to me): Patrice O'Neal, Greg Giraldo, and Pierre.
Pierre is funny and, I think he is an excellent interviewer. I type it over and over again. Every interview, Pierre provides CONTEXT. Clifton Powell said something along the lines of, "Audition with George St. Pierre" (or whoever), and Pierre immediately jumped in, and was like, "Tell them who George St. Pierre is." POINT BEING, don't just assume that your audience knows who these people are or what certain acronyms mean.
Kinda' like your mechanic telling you that you need a new cam shaft positioning sensor. Sure, that means something to the 20% of the population who is mechanically inclined, HOWEVER, for the 80% who are not, tell me what (the hell) it is? Why and how would it go bad? How long do they typically last? How much to replace? How long to install? etc.
GREAT interview!
In Corporate America the reason the mediocre person gets into management over the super talented hard worker is because if they lose the super talented person, who will do all the work?
@Monique 05-2001 Sure! The super talented person on the team is usually the subject matter expert or even team lead. They are more valuable on the work team than they are in management because they have intimate knowledge or history with the product and are able to consult or lead projects, solve problems that may affect the business, and train new people. They are the de facto leader and knowledge provider of the team.
Subject matter experts may be compensated well but they would rather deal with work pertaining to the product or system rather than all the administrative stuff managers get involved with.
I have rarely seen subject matter experts go into leadership, but I have seen others who did not know as the SME do so...which is okay most times because the manager will utilize the knowledge of the SME when needed. Even if the manager knew a lot about that particular product, they are usually moved around to manage other teams that support other products whereas that subject matter expert may spend their entire career, or a significant part of it, on that work team.
Hopefully this makes sense. :)
@Monique 05-2001 my initial reply was to Alderman Fred C. Davis and I related it to Corporate America so it wasn't intended to apply to acting or Hollywood.
I don't pretend to know much about Hollywood, I think the problem you speak of in the industry is probably due to it being more about who will fill more seats at the theater and get more streams on the movie streaming apps than it is about true talent. You have a lot more crossover in acting today than you saw 20 or 30 years ago. Nowadays if you are a hot rapper, athlete, or hot comedian, you may get the opportunity to act in a large budget movie alongside a Willem DaFoe, Lawrence Fishburne, or Al Pacino...even though that hot new star is not trained in acting like DaFoe, Fishburne or Pacino. So I think the net total is that it is now more about profit and ratings over talent or qualifications which is why we saw Cardi B moderating a discussion with Joe Biden during the presidential campaign rather than say, Barbara Walters, who has decades of journalism experience and knowledge of Washington. I remember Samuel L. Jackson expressing discord about rappers getting roles in movies rather than other true actors, so your concerns have been talked about before. You may be a purist in an industry that is growing increasingly toward what trends.
@Monique 05-2001 lol its cool. Apparently you have thought this out in ways I never thought about. I think the one thing we can see eye to eye on is that the studios are going to do whatever affect their bottom line. What I am curious about is what you would deem to be fair in all of this
"I don't audition, I perform" this line right here is the mentality to have
Mr. Powell is one of the most underrated black actors of our time. His role alone he played with Charles Dutton is one of the most memorable roles played on a black dramedy series. Period.
I hated him, he convinced me that he was the worst person to exist.
What about pinky naaaga
@@boondocks211 lol 😂
@@boondocks211 😆😅🤣
Word. Charles S Dutton is another one. Truly under appriciated
@@killaskrilla5320 Absolutely
This is another Clifton Powell Master Class! So glad that Pierre launched his own channel. Keep up the great content brotha. You are archiving our people’s journey.
Glad he is my OG in acting. Very cool and down to Earth
Clifton is the Goat. This man is in at least a thousand of movies. From low budget hood movies, and big budget movies. He’s an all around, stellar actor. An actor’s actor

this the best interview i seen in a while on any platform. the full interview is great.
Clifton Powell definitely one of my favorite Actors of all time along with Don Cheadle, Denzel, Forest Whitaker, Sam Jackson, & Charles S Dutton. They all masters of their craft. All of them 🐐’s . Mount Rushmore
Absolutely!! Hands down, Mr. Powell is one of the best actors in Hollywood. He can play any character and make you believe it. His range is unlimited. If Clifton Powell is in the movie, the series, etc., it's going to be great.
Why is this the first time I’ve seen Clifton Powells ability to articulate? Damn shame, great job Pierre!
Love both of y'all as actors 💯🤗🤞🏾🙌🏿
This was some real game keep pushing
Maaaaaaan, I did Ray with CP, and that was the FIRST thing he told me. He was the first one to turn me onto Uta Hagen. Changed my life.
Acting 🎭 is not an easy as it seems. I did a 1/2 of one scene in a movie 🎥 last year. And I really had to study 📖 and perfect the method because the producer was very in particular and the actor I was acting with had a flat delivery. So I had to train myself to bring it down to their level.
Not to mention the sometimes long days and nights, doing different scenes, moving from place to place, and staying in character. And until you make it, make it, the money is definitely not all that. Lol
Well if T.I & Silk The Shocker can get movie roles anybody can
very underrated actor he is amazing
Pierre be keepin it real about himself i like that.
Dropping gems.... Great advice
Clifton Powell is a very underrated actor 👍🏽👍🏽🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐
Lol 😂 @ Pierre reading the mock script
The man knows what he's doing loves his work
Great actor. Been doing it for a long time
Cutty....Dead Presidents lol
Very well said , Clifton Powell...
Exactly.
Just do the work.
Thank you Clifton Powell
When I started in theater, I would go up to my third floor and rehearse. I shut the world out. One audition I had I performed for the directors. I came dress for the part I actually got a standing ovation, but I did not get cast because of politics however I got a voiceover out the deal. So Clifton, is right.
Facts lol Clifton a legend💯❤✊🏾
Hey I’m from Little Rock, Arkansas!
You should ask about people that live right here trying to get in
Loved this guy in dead presidents … played the part to a T.
Cutty, I'll never 4get when he knocked O dogg down the steps (lol)
That damn dead presidents had sooo many talented brothers and sisters in it.
I just sent this to my son to watch. He is being dropped off in LA after he graduates high school. We love him support him but if he doesn't do these gems Clinton speaks on then it's gonna be tougher than well we all know
Full interview is out tomorrow. Some good info about acting. If you go back to his first time on my show he talks about his struggle
Wuts up SweetPea, DC,s St Anthony's Own!! Nothing but Luv Bruh! School them!!
He is a legend
i love all his movies plus he's funny
PS...SHOUT-OUTS, to a DMV-LEGEND:
...Salute to you, Mr. Clifton Powell.
Reppin' The City and the area LOVELY, per the usual...
Raw talent means knew somebody 😂
He doesn't have the presence of al Pacino trained or not
His Study.
Damon knows.
60 is listening.
Clif is a God.
Damn....Pierre and Clifton are talking two different things. No Pierre you didn't have the TRAINING he was talking about. You're literally the example he was giving.
Little Rock in the house baby lol
Both men n women sleep their way to the top. Sad but true. In almost every business. I heard of a nurse who slept with a doctor while both were on duty n ended up married.
King of hood movies
BUILD YOUR TABLE. MAKE YOUR OWN ROLES. STOP LOOKING FOR ROLES THAT ARNT THERE.
how do actors cry on que ?

Why I thought he died?
👍🏾
I wanna see Clifton Powell, 50 Cent, Robert Dinero & Al Pacino make a movie together. 😎😎😎
Better than Pacino imo
Just as trained? Possibly. Just as good, Hell no!
Never sit higher then your guests not a good look.
I think Pierre should stop trying to be funny.. because he's not funny.. and that's fine.. His interviews are fantastic. I can watch his interviews back to back to back for hours. Why not just approach this as a straight media dude? respectfully..
Yes you are Clifton, but you're not as good of an actor as Pacino. There's no shame in that, as the vast majority aren't. You are a good actor, but Pacino is one of the all time greats.
that wasn’t his point though
THAN WHY THE HELL DO THEY KEEP GIVEN ADOS RULES TO FOREIGN BLACK PEOPLE. ADOS must stop supporting these productions. This is not much different that a white American playing a historical rule of black Americans. We are not the same.
You either can act or not... The work is brown nosing and networking, more brown nosing... And just getting over stage fright
This is why we need to only focus on advancing 👏 black👏Hollywood. We are so talented but white Hollywood will always cap the amount of black talent that is shown on the big screen.
Exactly
This man looks incredible to be 65 years old! And he IS A Great Actor. HIGHLY Overlooked.
No lies
Roc was when Clifton Powell became my favorite actor.
Both of you brothers are legends and I'm glad you gave true information to young actors. To Mr. Clifton Powell, you are a very well round talent who needs to be mention when Al Pacino, De Niro, Washington are brought up. Thank you for the work you have done.
Gotta love Clifton Powell. He's a great actor who doesn't get the respect he deserves.
Clifton Powell: I'm Just As Trained As Al Pacino
Al Pacino: Wooo Haaa!
Clifton Powell is a great actor
It just might be me but once he move his arm I started picturing Bruce Leroy Sho Nuff
I was lucky enough to be in the building when he did it. I played the hubby of the main actress. He showed his ass and he was already mad bc production was trippin!! Check out Lust part of a 3 part series
Hands down my favorite those who know me know this
It's angering how such professionals as Powell and actors alike don't get the recognition they so rightfully deserve.
Now everything this brotha said right here, could literally serve as a theater course tutorial for serious-minded professionals.
And if they really studied his advice and info that he gave, it could very well lead them to paramount career success 👍🎬🏆.
as a black male i believe blacks should start their own Hollywood just like how Indians have Bollywood.
They already have. It's called Nollywood.
Think you meant Black Americans?
O.G giving out game for free...💪🏾💯
Extremely interesting! Proper preparation prevents poor performance!!
He ain't lie, I NEVER seen a bad black ( established ) 👈🏾 ( *this was a edited in word for better understanding, because it confused some guy in the comments* ) actor... EVER, they're all great af specially when they're trained.. but the skin only allows 1 or few "greats" thru the door
Don’t make stupid comments like this moving forward. Black don’t make it great even tho Clifton Powell is a great actor.
Lisa Raye is not a good actress.. and there are other examples.
@@latione2009 think so?
@@stonetv757 i'm sorry u feel that way, & you missed the point really..
@@NatureBoyMickFlair I didn’t miss any point, there’s a bad everything. Wake up!
If Clifton is in your film it will be seen by ALL black people. Automatically. It will probably be considered among classic Black Film as well. Al Pacino is not that big a deal. He does the same character in most of his films. He has no real range. Clifton has played every kind of Brotha there is in his films. Endless range. Clearly a better actor than Pacino. No comparison imo.
What? 😂😂😂 Better actor??
Bro is one of the greatest
FACTS !!!
These are such gems of info... Great actor... 👍
This is excellent. Thank you Mr Powell for sharing your wisdom.
Pierre’s sounds like he’s in a basement 🎙
Not knocking him!
"I'll have two number 9s, a number 9 large, a number 6 with extra dip, a number 7, two number 45s, one with cheese, and a large soda"
I’m getting an acting Masterclass here. Thank You both ✊🏽
A great actor, wish he was in more movies, young blurd!

I think Clifton was mostly honest. But let's not pretend like there are not people who can't act or even memorize lines...but because they have such a presence and/or a look...the studios will give them a small number of lines and build an entire movie around them. (Arnold in the 70s and Arnold today, Brad Pitt always.). It's all about money. If they think they can make money off you they will make arrangements. Acting is more than just memorizing lines. DeNiro can say a thousand words without saying anything.
Clifton should be a much bigger start then he is so terribly underrated, this is the injustice we cry about
this niqqa gotta be 1 of the MOST underrated - him & Kimberly Elise
The Charles Audition:
I could feel his nervousness.
Funny 💩is the Rock character’s the last one I’d expect to say nigga
Nobody gets the job done like Pinky! get it together baby..
Notice he said “just as trained”, not “just as good”.
He was in so many movies big budget to low I respect him 💯💯
This a good look for you Pierre, get Bill Bellamy on . He tells the best stories.
Nerve gas. I used to get that before every show when I was rapping.
There are so many poor actors and screenwriters it's sickening.
He is a good actor, I remember him the tv show "Rock"
It is very difficult to quantifiy artistic talent.
Clifton a beast ....Al though lol idk G
Great interview!! A true professional!
Dc is definitely in the house !!!
