    In every company, every job, every field there are super-talented people who somehow, despite all logic and reason, never seem to 'break through' while dozens of mediocre people leap frog them. People you look at and say, "How is this person not at the top? In comedy, 3 names JUMP right out (to me): Patrice O'Neal, Greg Giraldo, and Pierre.
    Pierre is funny and, I think he is an excellent interviewer. I type it over and over again. Every interview, Pierre provides CONTEXT. Clifton Powell said something along the lines of, "Audition with George St. Pierre" (or whoever), and Pierre immediately jumped in, and was like, "Tell them who George St. Pierre is." POINT BEING, don't just assume that your audience knows who these people are or what certain acronyms mean.
    Kinda' like your mechanic telling you that you need a new cam shaft positioning sensor. Sure, that means something to the 20% of the population who is mechanically inclined, HOWEVER, for the 80% who are not, tell me what (the hell) it is? Why and how would it go bad? How long do they typically last? How much to replace? How long to install? etc.
    GREAT interview!

      In Corporate America the reason the mediocre person gets into management over the super talented hard worker is because if they lose the super talented person, who will do all the work?

    • @quincycummings7603
      @quincycummings7603 2 роки тому +1

      @Monique 05-2001 Sure! The super talented person on the team is usually the subject matter expert or even team lead. They are more valuable on the work team than they are in management because they have intimate knowledge or history with the product and are able to consult or lead projects, solve problems that may affect the business, and train new people. They are the de facto leader and knowledge provider of the team.
      Subject matter experts may be compensated well but they would rather deal with work pertaining to the product or system rather than all the administrative stuff managers get involved with.
      I have rarely seen subject matter experts go into leadership, but I have seen others who did not know as the SME do so...which is okay most times because the manager will utilize the knowledge of the SME when needed. Even if the manager knew a lot about that particular product, they are usually moved around to manage other teams that support other products whereas that subject matter expert may spend their entire career, or a significant part of it, on that work team.
      Hopefully this makes sense. :)

    • @quincycummings7603
      @quincycummings7603 2 роки тому

      @Monique 05-2001 my initial reply was to Alderman Fred C. Davis and I related it to Corporate America so it wasn't intended to apply to acting or Hollywood.
      I don't pretend to know much about Hollywood, I think the problem you speak of in the industry is probably due to it being more about who will fill more seats at the theater and get more streams on the movie streaming apps than it is about true talent. You have a lot more crossover in acting today than you saw 20 or 30 years ago. Nowadays if you are a hot rapper, athlete, or hot comedian, you may get the opportunity to act in a large budget movie alongside a Willem DaFoe, Lawrence Fishburne, or Al Pacino...even though that hot new star is not trained in acting like DaFoe, Fishburne or Pacino. So I think the net total is that it is now more about profit and ratings over talent or qualifications which is why we saw Cardi B moderating a discussion with Joe Biden during the presidential campaign rather than say, Barbara Walters, who has decades of journalism experience and knowledge of Washington. I remember Samuel L. Jackson expressing discord about rappers getting roles in movies rather than other true actors, so your concerns have been talked about before. You may be a purist in an industry that is growing increasingly toward what trends.

      @Monique 05-2001 lol its cool. Apparently you have thought this out in ways I never thought about. I think the one thing we can see eye to eye on is that the studios are going to do whatever affect their bottom line. What I am curious about is what you would deem to be fair in all of this

    Mr. Powell is one of the most underrated black actors of our time. His role alone he played with Charles Dutton is one of the most memorable roles played on a black dramedy series. Period.
    I hated him, he convinced me that he was the worst person to exist.

    Acting 🎭 is not an easy as it seems. I did a 1/2 of one scene in a movie 🎥 last year. And I really had to study 📖 and perfect the method because the producer was very in particular and the actor I was acting with had a flat delivery. So I had to train myself to bring it down to their level.

    When I started in theater, I would go up to my third floor and rehearse. I shut the world out. One audition I had I performed for the directors. I came dress for the part I actually got a standing ovation, but I did not get cast because of politics however I got a voiceover out the deal. So Clifton, is right.

He does the same character in most of his films. He has no real range. Clifton has played every kind of Brotha there is in his films. Endless range. Clearly a better actor than Pacino. No comparison imo.

    I think Clifton was mostly honest. But let's not pretend like there are not people who can't act or even memorize lines...but because they have such a presence and/or a look...the studios will give them a small number of lines and build an entire movie around them. (Arnold in the 70s and Arnold today, Brad Pitt always.). It's all about money. If they think they can make money off you they will make arrangements. Acting is more than just memorizing lines. DeNiro can say a thousand words without saying anything.
