I can´t avoid to think that Djokovic is near of 36 years old and is the number one in the world right now and Boris retired at 34 like many others at that age
Lots of other variables contributed to the longer careers. The big three basically played 12 events a year for the last decade of their career. Previous eras played double based on the ranking system. Add to that the current destruction of Davis Cup and the elimination of best of 5 sets outside of slams and it’s not a surprise players are lasting longer
It's from 2002, it's in the description. Hewitt won the 2001 edition, but I don't see how it was legendary? Maybe because of the match between Sampras and agassi?
Today they are all in their prime between 28 and 34. And this, although the game is physically harder today. But they have as well more „helping things“ for recovery.
There is much less competition today, though. If there had been only three players capable of winning slams in the 1990s, these two might have played into their 40s, too.
Prime is not 28....more like 22-24. Fed, Rafa and Nole are pretty exceptional, being top ranked in their mid-30s. Somewhere in the 70's , 30 became viewed as old, which was a little strange. you still had top guys like Newk and Rosewall playing quite well, who were significantly older. Then Connors pushed the envelope winning GS when 30'ish and staying close to the top well into his mid-30s. Then Andre. So, not sure this ageist theme in men's tennis ever made sense. And certainly not in women's when you had BJK, MN, Evert, Serena playing very well in their mid 30s

You are the one who for some odd reason thinks that’s relevant as well as thinking that it’s “interesting” there using Volkl when in fact it’s not surprising in the slightest. It’s an exo in retirement and Mac got paid well to use Volkl while Becker owned Volkl tennis lol. That has nothing to do with what they used on the tour.
Pro tip: there’s no “y” in Volkl.
@@datacipher .Learn to take your own advice - I never claimed that you asserted that Becker and McEnroe played with Volkl tennis rackets during their years on the regular men's pro tennis tours! I merely pointed out the fact that it is interesting (which it is) that they chose to play with Volkl rackets after they had retired from the regular men's pro tennis tour rather than continuing to play with the rackets they played with during their years on the regular tour! Nothing more, nothing less!
@@michaelbarlow6610 @datacipher Each of You have partial information, thus false claims
Yes, clearly both John McEnroe and Boris Becker used a Volkl racquet/racket frames and strings as seen explicitly.
Boris Becker purchased 50% of Volkl [which also manufactures ski, snow sports equipment and clothing for both. After Eastusa closed, thus stopped manufacture of his Puma frame, Boris owned those molds, thus shifted to Volkl, which he had purchased. Thus developed the BB-Beck line within too.
John was sponsored for a short period by Volkl including 2002, thus switched from Dunlop McEnroe Maxply midsize to this custom McEnroe C-10 Pro. Boris appears to have a custom PB-PowerBridge frame without the "V" along with BB clothing. John also appears to not have Nike clothing and shoes John returned to sponsorship with both Dunlop and Nike shortly afterwards.
Echt super. !
I can´t avoid to think that Djokovic is near of 36 years old and is the number one in the world right now and Boris retired at 34 like many others at that age
31 even. After Wimbledon 1999.
@@tobyharling719 22nd November 1967
@@Marc443 That's the one. If he'd retired at 34 it would likely have been 2002 (before his birthday).
There might be more "pharmaceutical enhancement" nowadays.
What competition was this? There is written US Open. Was it the legendary US Open in 2001? Who won it?
It's from 2002, it's in the description. Hewitt won the 2001 edition, but I don't see how it was legendary? Maybe because of the match between Sampras and agassi?
Today they are all in their prime between 28 and 34. And this, although the game is physically harder today. But they have as well more „helping things“ for recovery.
“Helping things”. Heh….
@@lzv6990 some effective pills etc.😉
Not all of them are in their prime at 34, saying such a thing is a stretch. Not everyone is the big 3.
Boom Boom Backer
What racquet company is this? They both have the same painted strings
Völkl
@@SansuiAUX901 I forgot about them, how cool.
@@DinoCorvino Volkl is still among the best ! Also their snow sporting equipment are among the top, best too.
Boris Becker purchased, owns 50% of Volkl; began BB-Becker line within; John switched from Dunlop [McEnroe] Maxply briefly using this custom McEnroe C-10 Pro. Boris seems to have a PB[PowerBridge] frame without the "V".
they used Volkl strings seen by the Logo
@@newtonfirefly3584 Oh you wonderful tennis nerd. I can see my own kind from a mile away. Thanks for the response. I had seen Volkl before. I think some guys around where I play have had them from time to time.
Old School. Hitting the ball Flat as Hell!!! No Top!!! I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!
??? Becker hit with lots of spin
@@seruresto1386of course, and Mac often hit with top as well, even if he was generally not a power hitter. He certainly rarely hit “flat” instead missing top and underpin. You’re always going to get a guy like Gary Hilson mouthing off - opinionated but knowing nothing about the subject… just sees a video coming out of a haze of weed smoke and hippie carelessness, while wondering where his Birkenstocks are and why Hillary and Joe haven’t saved the world yet…
…not a serious thinker - and not even potentially capable of being one.
@@datacipherYou have issues dude lol
Johnny Mac complained about not winning any argument in 30 years in the pickleball match paired with Michael Chang versus Aggassiz and Roddick. Didn’t shake hand with the chair.
Boris in this match was not full 35 and he seems very poor. Novak and Federer were number 1 with over 36, near to 37.
Release the Mac Nike shirt and short?
Clearly this was not Mike sponsor then
С возрастом, Макенрой стал играть лучше. Меньше стало понтов, игра стала более техничной и выверенной.
Does anybody know what shoes was John McEnroe wearing?
You are not able to buy those type of tennis shoes for over 2 decades. John clearly has switched sponsor that year from Nike for all clothing, shoes along with his racket/racquet frame to a custom McEnroe Volkl from Dunlop McEnroe Maxply; John returned to his sponsor after that short period.
Note Boris Becker owns 50% of Volkl - had switched to Volkl after Eastusa [Taiwan] closed, thus stopped production of his previous Puma frames; then purchased 1/2 of Volkl, also had them develop, manufacture BB-Becker frames along with other innovations within graphite materials also within their snow sports equipment; Boris is clearly wearing BB clothing. they both clearly have Volkl strings, noticed by the Volkl Logo on the strings.
pls
do the highlights of this one
becker lacked agility and seemed heavy and slow on the court. mc was much quicker but for some reason had a bad day on the forehand side, which cost him.
At the time he already had issues with his ankle and hip.
always funny to see ants criticize elephants.
What’s with the weird scoring?
메켄로는 옛날부터 네트로 데쉬 하는 발리 전문
How ridiculous that they tried to redo the scoring in this era with kids (and here with pros) by saying 1-0 instead of 15-0
Crazy seeing Vioxx logo on the court. That drug caused thousands of deaths.
Yes Jeff Hermida, the US Open, USTA should be more aware, careful with their sponsors; always "
VIOXX should never have been approved nor released to the public - ever !!
"Rofecoxib is a COX-2-selective nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug. It was marketed by Merck & Co. to treat osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, acute pain conditions, migraine, and dysmenorrhea. Rofecoxib was approved in the US by the US Food and Drug Administration in May 1999, and was marketed under the brand names Vioxx, Ceoxx, and Ceeoxx"
All of the tennis sponsors are among the "Elite" as with all "sports", entertainment events. 😞
See, Not all of the other sponsors [Financial "Elite" - JPMOrgan Chase, Prudential, et al]
I know its past his carrer and only an exhabition but Becker lost really fast all his energy.
What was up with the scoring?
Both playing with Volkl rackets, like I still do
Sport evolve. Sampras learned and improved upon the greats before him, as did Federer, djokovic and soon will alcaraz
Carlos Alcarz is clearly over hyped !! Jannick Sinner is clearly superior, more durable, lasting type player; We will see.
Your other claims about the greats from this Millennium is clearly, certainly False.
that god damn backhand of McEnroe
John McEnroe's ground strokes were underestimated All of his career. When mcenroe used to beat Lendl in early '80s and dominant him, it was from the ground and the ground strokes that gave him the easy volley put aways. McEnroe forehand and back hand was very good
False claim Kevin W Brown, about John McEnroe; perhaps only those post the era may make such false claims. Those during the era along with proper tennis knowledge have much praise about, with, within every stroke of John, with exceptional high praise with his net play, volley, serve-volley, on-court strategy, placement, 'artistry', mastery.
John was born about 7 months prior to me; Saw John since his debut.
All The Best, Sincerely
Becker is only about 34 here. He could've still been playing on the tour!
Can’t believe how slow Becker moved at 34, only 3 years after his retirement. I’m 46 and not the quickest guy around and I’m sure could beat him in a 25 yard race.
Fernando Martinez you would probably look lika a turtle in TV when moving. TV makes everything looks much slower.
Becker had issues with his hips which I think were already at work at the point. He eventually had a double hip operation when he was 46
Mac is wearing his Nike shirt from 1985
No Nike here for John McEnroe nor Dunlop in this year 2002 !! 😞
Can Boris reprise at ClubFed?
Becker is barely able to walk nowadays
Just think Boris was younger than Rafa or Novak here and John is just a couple years old than Roger and they are retired doing a XO
Deux joueurs à l'ancienne. Le service-volée.
Becker would have lost 1st round in the slams even at 34.
Becker at 34 looks so bad compared to Novak, Federer, and Nadal at 34.
Fifteen years earlier Boris won Wimbledon
Boris Won Wimbledon 1985, 86, 89. Last AO 1996.
Actually, Becker is the GOAT.

Wow, I thought this was from 2023...
Their ground strokes are so damn lousy!

All the womanizing and boozing took a heavy toll on Becker.
con 35 años en 2002 becker parece anciano de 70 sin ritmo como un rokkie djkovic solo tirandole la pelota con los pies le gana
looks like neither have fun playing this match, and so does the sleepy crowd
The only difference between them all these years alter, is that Boris has done time, and Johnny Mac should be calling time. Pickleball, really.....
They both use the same brand of racket.
10'22" Not sure that is a correct call .Ball looked pretty much on the line to me.
No way anyone can win with his Collar messed up like that. Someone should have fixed it for Mac, then he would've won.
Why was the scoring done like that? No 15-love etc... but numbers. This is Tennis, not Basketball!
becker looks much younger than djokovic?
Becker is 35 years old here and McEnroe is 43.
Boris was 34 years 9 months at this exhibition match; born December 1967. John McEnroe born February 1959.
