There was another one in Germany around 2004/5? not completely sure. It was on carpet indoors and Becker lost that. Though to me it looked as if he let McEnroe win as he was very furious with his drama almost like in the old days...I think he let him have it in the end.

So? Federer beat Djokovic when he was older than Becker was in this video.
Don't forget that Boris won his first slam at 18 and a young age went through a lot more pressure adulation and later injuries. Feliciano Lopez was playing singles in the tour at age 40 in 2023 , he went pro a few years before this match was played. Ken Rosewall made a slam final at 40, around McEnroe's age here. Just more random facts.

Yes, John used this Volkl McEnroe custom C-10 Pro that year. Boris used was appears to be a Volkl custom PB [PowerBridge] without the "V".
Boris is 50% owner with Volkl; He had his custom frames manufactured within Volkl after EastUsa closed [Taiwan] with his Puma frame molds. Then also had BB frames developed, manufactured, sold, later Becker, including clothing that he wore here too.
They both certainly used Volkl strings per the spay paint logo too.

It is not clear which clothing sponsor John is wearing, but clearly not the previously common Nike, which he returned to also.
John continued to play in the "Senior's Tour" then which was organized by Jimmy Connors; He may have just stopped or was his final year; born September 1952.
This Men's Singles Exhibition match is very unusual within any of the GS Events; They usually have Senior's Invitational Doubles Matches with Legends.

Yes, clearly both John McEnroe and Boris Becker used a Volkl racquet/racket frames and strings as seen explicitly.
Boris Becker purchased 50% of Volkl [which also manufactures ski, snow sports equipment and clothing for both. After Eastusa closed, thus stopped manufacture of his Puma frame, Boris owned those molds, thus shifted to Volkl, which he had purchased. Thus developed the BB-Beck line within too.
John was sponsored for a short period by Volkl including 2002, thus switched from Dunlop McEnroe Maxply midsize to this custom McEnroe C-10 Pro. Boris appears to have a custom PB-PowerBridge frame without the "V" along with BB clothing. John also appears to not have Nike clothing and shoes John returned to sponsorship with both Dunlop and Nike shortly afterwards.

The kids today all say the current crop are the best ever and they are "all court" players. We used to call them baseliners. We used to see a variety of playing styles. Now they all play the same. Federer was the last great player that previous generations would call "all court". The racquets and court surfaces have all changed to suit one particular playing style - a hard hitting baseliner. The men's game now looks like the women's game except the ball is hit harder.

Add to that the current destruction of Davis Cup and the elimination of best of 5 sets outside of slams and it’s not a surprise players are lasting longer

Prime is not 28....more like 22-24. Fed, Rafa and Nole are pretty exceptional, being top ranked in their mid-30s. Somewhere in the 70's , 30 became viewed as old, which was a little strange. you still had top guys like Newk and Rosewall playing quite well, who were significantly older. Then Connors pushed the envelope winning GS when 30'ish and staying close to the top well into his mid-30s. Then Andre. So, not sure this ageist theme in men's tennis ever made sense. And certainly not in women's when you had BJK, MN, Evert, Serena playing very well in their mid 30s
